QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) re, getting electronic stuff to work again after submergence. I'm no engineer – that's QPrawn's job – but the salinity of the floodwaters has got to be at least a couple parts per thousand, and even when the components dry, the salt bridges left on all the circuitry will effectively short everything out unless it is all totally cleaned at major expense. DING DING DING!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 12:31 PM) You are such an engineer I would think with more and more integrated chips some of these will work. Plus they could always return them to WalMart if and when WalMart reopens. LOL at the last line. I am sure some will as not everything is underwater. It's just a matter of whether any contaminates from the water is shorting pins together on any of these chips causing a potential short.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 12:01 PM) A thought... regarding anything left that's parishable.. they should just let people have it. The area is going to be ruled a total disaster area anyway and stores will be covered. Help as many as you can in terms of food and clean water is what I would do. I was thinking about that yesterday and I agree 100%. It would spoil before anyone got back to the store to clean up, so if it is still edible, let them have it.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) They'll probably try to sell it when it dries out maybe..? Would it definitely still not work? I dropped a remote control in the sink once. After it dried out it worked again. For as long as it was sitting in the water as well as the contaminates that are in the water, it would likely have to go through a serious cleaning to work and then some of the chips might be toast already.

In regards to the looting, I can kind of understand people taking food/water/supplies for their babies/kids (formula, diapers, etc.), but what are they going to do with water-logged electronics, clothes etc?

Price of gas went up this evening by me to $3.03 for 87 octane and I think $3.23 for 93 octane.

and Venezuela offers fuel, food to hurricane-hit US CARACAS (AFP) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez offered to send food and fuel to the United States after the powerful Hurricane Katrina pummeled the US south, ravaging US crude production. The leftist leader, a frequent critic of the United States and a target himself of US disapproval, said Venezuela could send aid workers with drinking water, food and fuel to US communities hit by the hurricane. "We place at the disposition of the people of the United States in the event of shortages -- we have drinking water, food, we can provide fuel," Chavez told reporters. Chavez said fuel could be sent to the United States via a Citgo refinery that has not been affected by the hurricane. Citgo is owned by Venezuela's state-owned oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA). In the Gulf of Mexico, which accounts for a quarter of total US oil output, 92 percent of crude and 83 percent of natural gas production were shut down due to Hurricane Katrina, which slammed Louisiana and Mississippi, according to US government data. Venezuela is the fourth-largest provider of oil to the United States, supplying some 1.5 million barrels a day. Last week, Chavez offered discount gasoline to poor Americans suffering from high oil prices and on Sunday offered free eye surgery for Americans without access to health care.

Whoa. . . It will be a long time before New Orleans is anywhere near what it was prior to Katrina.

QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 06:31 PM) Against Seattle in 2000, at home. They swept us. It was a sign of things to come. Brian was there and made sure he called me from the park (he's a big Mariners fan). Considering he kept promising me tickets, it's not surprising I told him to eff off and I hung up on him. Still can't figure out why he dumped me after the Sox were swept and what's even more puzzling is that I took his dumb ass back. My mom attended quite a few with her sisters and dad back in the day.
-
I agree with your points, in fact I was thinking about them driving home from work today. I am taking it day by day though.
-
I am outta here - time to hit the gym. Hopefully the Sox can hold 'em and go ahead.

I am hoping that Chris is out of there (not sure what hotel he is/was at).

I flipped through about 65 pictures of the first feeder bands coming ashore that were on weather bug this morning.

I can't even begin to imagine what they will find when the waters receed.

I tried to word it myself and it turns out Soxy said it the best. Brian, my sister and my best friend, I hold nothing back. A few of my other friends and family, I tend to keep my mouth shut unless it is something they really need to know, ie cheating, stealing something like that.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 07:16 AM) Saddest thing I have seen or heard in a long time. The reporter seems in tears also. Click 'You can't hold me, take care of the kids' I couldn't imagine going through that (just reading that has the tears welling up).

I wouldn't say long before, but if he was there at that point, he didn't evacuate and wasn't at the superdome either.

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) The lack of a comma in the title made me wonder if some freakish Hammond-Cal City based genetic experiment had gone horribly wrong. LMAO!

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) And candle wax off carpeting... Seriously? We still have a patch of wax we hide with an extra piece of carpet. Poor stinky butt ended up with hairless balls because of that. (Brian's nephew didn't listen and let him out and then knocked over a wax potpourri thing and stinky was covered in it - I really didn't think he was going to live but the stubborn little bastard is still begging treats from me to this day.)
