I say we just ban football. I mean, I've never seen it, but I'm sure at some point a player has grabbed another man's junk. The thought of a person groping another person on TV is offensive to me.

Reds give Harang 4 years, 36.5 million deal

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 7, 2007 -> 09:38 AM) I'm surprised that nobody has called out Billy Beane as of yet. This dude led the NL in wins, innings pitched, strikeouts, and complete games. He was in the Top 20 WHIP rankings damn near all season long. He sucked pretty hard until 2005. I always thought that he was kind of a scrub, but it turns out that he's just a late bloomer. I was going to say something about whether the A's miss him now, and then I realized they really don't miss him at all, what with all their pitching depth. Billy would have like to have traded him this offseason though, no doubt about that. He might have gotten Milledge and Humber for him, assuming his numbers would have transferred well to the AL. -

Best of Soxtalk 2006 Nominations

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 7, 2007 -> 11:07 AM) Your just lucky cause I'd have that award locked up if I were in it. Lets see...called the Sox acquiring Randy Johnson and Aubrey Huff.....but I did call the Tigers being our biggest competition. Don't worry, I'm pretty sure you get the win over me since I'm not actually eligible as a HOF member but somehow I got put into that one. From what I understand, Hall of Famers are not eligible for poster of the year, but are eligible for other awards. But if you want to give your votes away, by all means, I'm accepting. -
QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Feb 7, 2007 -> 10:12 AM) Who is going to play SS? Juan Uribe should not be our starting SS. He failed at the plate last year. No, you just don't appreciate a SS that can hit the ball past the pitcher, and you apparently don't appreciate gold glove defense at SS as well.

This definitely brings new meaning to looking California and feeling Minnesota

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 11:57 PM) Haha, who do you think nominated your ass? And I may be nominated for a few but Fathom is taking it to me in two of them and Gage in the other. You weren't without your share of yours of course and atleast I am not losing in the poster of the year award (god I hope Willie reads this) -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 11:05 PM) It's supposed to go to the best prognosticator but since I was not nominated it will not be going to the most deserving poster this year. beg to differ...ATLEAST I AM NOMINATED, yeah so there and you are nominated for like every other category, so it is oh k. I believe you are actually nominated for both conservative and liberal of the year. -
Miss baseball in the offseason? - Think you're better than KW?

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) payroll's only 77 mill... obviously I'm not a huge fan of starting over, since I was an expansion team just 5 seasons ago, I'm only now entering the ranks of the top 4 teams, whereas before I had been a top 10 team for a couple of seasons. Plus, i want to see how Burt does... but it's pretty annoying that a pitcher who is 90-90-90 can really suck, and most of the time do... steroids -

QUOTE(T R U @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 08:34 PM) 2005 K not that my opinion matters - seeing as how I kinda resigned and all - but maybe you guys should go like until 2020 (so 15 seasons worth) and then restart. Just a nice round number, and it still gives the current GMs a chance to see if they can do anything with the talent they've built up. -

Did you guys start in 2005 or 2006? I suck at remembering -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) The real test for me is if the Tevas have to be replaced with real shoes. No Shirt No Shoes No Problema I will say I'm cool with snow so long as I don't have to deal with 110 degree heat with humidity (which I occasionally actually do have to deal with). If it's cold, you can keep on adding layers of clothes. If it's hot, you get stuck sweating your ass off in underwear.

the 3 teams reportedly interested in him - Baltimore, Detroit, and Anaheim - have all denied interest. Sucks for Juan

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 12:50 PM) This was a solid, all around, everyone's to blame loss. Aside from Devin Hester, ya can't blame him! If Rex Grossman can complete a pass 10 yards down the field on a consistent basis for first downs, the running game opens up, and the defense isnt on the field 40 minutes. Rex Grossman and the entire QB group (Turner for his play calls...whatever) in general is largely to blame for the loss, I don't care what the stats suggest otherwise.

QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 12:51 PM) 1.000/1.000/1.000 with 52 stolen bases, but still hated by Soxtalk members for his poor defense/arm. Goddamn right, SOB needs to get more than singles -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 03:14 AM) No more Joan Mac? I believe he was too jonEmac to be apart of the league anymore -
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) Why not? Peyton Manning certainly did. He was a 100% pocket passer when he came into the NFL. How many plays did he make out of the pocket last night. Especially the throw across his body to Dallas Clark. Peyton Manning hasn't improved his mobility for s***. He has the ability to throw on the run with accuracy, something Rex Grossman doesn't have, and something he may quite frankly never have.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) And I still need an explanation on the fumbles. How can a QB be so careless in the f***ing Super Bowl? Does that not tell you something about a player. i personally liked the dives for -9 yards on successive plays

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) Guiding a team to the SB in his first full year as the starter doesn't qualify as success? Or do you mean sustained success? I don't know if he really guided the team nearly as much as the defense and running game did. And, for s***s and giggles, let's compare Rex Grossman (R1, 22, 2003) to JP Losman (R1, 22, 2004), both in their first full years as starters....so one would expect them to be rougly the same caliber QB. Rex - 3193 yards, 54.2% (262/480), 23/20 TD/INT, 72.3 rating, 21 sacks, 7 fumbles, 5 lost JP - 3051 yards, 62.5% (268/429), 19/14 TD/INT, 84.9 rating, 47 sacks, 13 fumbles, 7 lost And I think we can agree that Rex had a superior offensive line, and we can also probably agree that Losman played in not only a much more difficult division, but dealt with a more difficult conference and schedule. It's funny, because JP was considered to be a bust and a horrible pick by a few people on here before the season.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 06:46 PM) No value might be pushing it, but Olsen or Sanchez? That's ridiculous talk. What do you realistically see the White Sox being able to get from say the Marlins if a deal were to go down? Oh I completely agree with that too. I just basically wanted to make note that he does have value; he's just not going to net you a premier pitching prospect. That's just the classic "XBox" trade right there, simple as that. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 06:51 PM) Todd Helton might be an exception this ST. And that is the only reason I left it at 5% in my aforementioned post. If not for the slight potential of such a deal, I would have said there is a better chance that Heath Miller does indeed get traded to the DRays.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 06:34 PM) I agree with most everything you say in your post except this part, I don't fault them at all for not using him on offense, I don't mean to be crass but the guy is borderline retarded, he can barely say his own name let alone learn an offense. Even with that said he'll likely be used on the offensive side of the ball just because he's too damn explosive to not take full advantage of those skills. If they really pound the playbook into his head this season and Training Camp next year he could maybe pick up enough to where he wouldn't be a liability out there. But I can not blame them for keeping him away from the offense in his first year as a pro. He shouldn't be an every down, every drive, or even every quarter type of player, but when you are playing as mediocrely as the Bears were last night, they should have just tried to get him in on a reverse or a quick screen or split backs or some such feat. His presence alone - even as dumb as he is when not returning kicks - scares the other team.
