USD Common's Surprise It's actually just our name for the pizza, because you can get a slice of pepperoni pizza, and you will find peppers, onions, sausage, chicken, or lots of other things on it. My real choice...I don't really have a favorite pizza. I guess I've never really had real pizza before, unless you count Pizza Hut, Domino's, Papa John's...and I don't. Out of those, I really don't have a favorite

QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 04:50 PM) I have been one of gload's main backers. He showed what he is capable of in 2004. In 2005 they favored timo perez over him. The same timo perez who made the team because of his ''clutchness'' factor. Timo perez would be the worst starter in all of baseball... hands done. For such a great pinch hitter he hit .167 with a .450 ops in his 24 at-bats. Supposedly he was playing the year hurt... well if he can why couldn't ross gload? He was still playing every day in charlotte and putting up numbers that trumped timo's and anyone on the bench for that matter. Everyone wants to know why gload has not has an oppurtunity as a starter. Simple answer to that is he has been stuck behind grace, helton, thomas, konerko, and thome. Very rarely will a player in his situation (28 when he first got over 200 at-bats) ever get the chance. Teams just cannot get into a season relying on someone to be their starting first basemen/left fielder when he is the age he is...and never produced for a full season. I do not see any reason for him to not be out in left for at least three games a week. The sox should have been working him hard out there in left... all throughout spring training. Then they should have followed it up with extra fielding before each game in the regular season. He needs work, no one is denying it. Gload's arm is stronger than podsednik's while he no longer has the arm strength he once had. I just believe he needs a chance before people can say he is a butcher/sucks... out in left. There have been worse athletes/players than ross gload roaming the outfield. In a full season i am gonna say he would hit in the .270-.290 range with good gap power. I could see him hovering around the .800 ops range. I know enough about you to know you wouldn't answer what I wanted answered. You know me well enough that I'm gonna ask it anyways How many steals would Ross be capable of, and at what percentage, if he were starting everyday?

Well let me ask...is Uribe, at this point, too expensive to be a super-sub? If the Sox could keep him and use him off the bench, that would be just awesome.

Hawk and DJ definitely talked about this in that last Angels game.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 01:23 AM) This isn't about the rest of '06, it's about a fulltime replacement next year. There's no way I want to go into 2007 with another s***ty fielder with no arm in LF. I WANT SOME DEFENSE DAMNIT! See, I was just thinking this year Next year, that is a completely different story all together.

Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread

The Twins are 79-12 when scoring 4+ runs figured I'd edit. They lost another one Friday night, but followed that up with 2 more wins -
QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 01:20 AM) So would that involve planting one on Ozzie? You f'in betcha

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 09:15 PM) 7-4 now. I still laugh at people who said Hunter wouldn't be an offensive upgrade over Anderson this season. I don't like Hunter offensively at all. I (hope to any and all gods out there) wasn't one that said he wouldn't be an upgrade, but he is just an undisciplined hitter. Swinging at the first pitch after a pitcher walks the previous hitter on 4 pitches, watching the first pitch down the middle for a strike while swinging at the next pitch out of the zone, almost always trying to pull everything, regardless of the location of the pitch. If you make a mistake up and in, the ball is gone. If you keep the pitch away, low and away, up and away, he, by and large, will not beat you unless he is crowding the plate(in which case, knock him on his ass)

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 10:31 PM) As stupid as this sounds and is probably fueled by my Gload/Ozuna man love...how would a Ozuna/Gload/perhaps Sweeney platoon in left sound? i'm not sayin...i'm just sayin... For the rest of the year, if the Sox were to go with Gload/Ozuna in LF, I would pretend I was Ozzie's son and we just won it all. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 12:50 AM) Because Gload doesn't have speed, he's never going to see any part of a LF rotation. That's the only thing that really keeps Pods in the lineup I would say. Plus his defensive ability ain't good out there, which is why you see the likes of Sweeney getting a game in the OF before him now. DBAH0, come on man...Pods is horrible out there too. The upgrade Gload would provide offensively would be worth any loss on defense.

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 10:53 PM) For starters, his departure was not exactly pleasant on his end and the remarks of some in the organization as to his catching ability did not help matters either. I'd say there's about as much of a chance of Carlos Lee comming back as there is Olivo returning to the south side. Also Miguel Olivo is basically Victor Martinez with a stronger arm and none of the offensive ability. Are you suggesting that we will get both Olivo AND Lee back? Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 12:21 AM) God I hate Josh Beckett. Lies, you know deep down inside, you want his 5.09 ERA and 33 homers allowed. You know you want it.

QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 08:16 PM) The rulebook states that if you have no offical AB's and no sac fly, the streak stays. If you have a sac fly, and no offical AB's, the streak is over. I don't see the fuss over this. Honestly, what would you say if it was a White Sox player in this position?? Apparently, you can't read either. I said I understand it, and I have no problem with it at all. I simply stated I think the streak should end. He played a game, and it is a 22-GAME hitting streak. If it is a Sox player that did it, I would say the same exact thing. I really don't care either way though.

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread

QUOTE(BearSox @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 06:57 PM) With our luck, Kenny would probably resign him to. Better win that ring, our we will have a senior citizan as our catcher again next season. He might only be, what?, 41, 42? But he looks like he is in his 50's. Freddy Garcia says he still calls a damn fine game, even if he does walk with a cane. -
QUOTE(BearSox @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 06:49 PM) I will be very, very upset to see Uribe in a sox uni next year. Him, podsednik, and Garcia all have to go, no ifs, ands or buts about it. And to the original post, I think gooch needs to move down in the lineup to like no. 8. He is a good hitter and all, but strikes out way too much for the two hole. Sweeney and Rollins would be a pretty sweet way to start of the lineup next year. You want to have a rookie leadoff? I love Sweeney as much as anyone(well actually, WHarris has a shrine in his room to him), but having him leadoff next year would just be dumb.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) Luckily Tadahito has picked it up a little bit, or our top of the order might just qualify as the worst in the league. I think you are seeing the offense start to come around a little bit because Tadahito is playing a little better. Podsednik got on at that .280 bullschlitz clip, along with Tada getting on at a .310 clip. Those two were by and large why the offense was dead in August, and why everyone hates Jim Thome.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 05:32 PM) Jimmy Rollins. Looking at it some more, Rollins' career line is about par with Pods' first half this season, which wasn't that good to begin with. Rollins has the edge with SLG%, but OBP% is more important for a top of the order hitter. Why would anyone want to guaranteed $35 million to a 2006, not 2005, first half Podsednik? Because Rollins actually plays good defense, actually steals bases, and has some power. The Posednik of the 2nd half is a track star with a club in his hands. Due to Rollins being in scoring position so much more often than Podsednik, his .330 OBP is better than Podsednik's .330 OBP.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 02:21 PM) I wonder if Juan is a headcase. You don't hear much about him. It seems like he's pretty damn aggressive at the plate and when he hits his occasional bomb ... wow. In other words, can't our hitting coach get through to him? Doesn't Juan appear to have the tools to be a much more productive hitter? That said ... if we can upgrade we need to IMO. I'd rather keep Iguchi. I think we need an upgrade offensively at either ss or cf, keeping one of the 2 because of their defense and not getting rid of both. Or the Sox could of course upgrade offensively and defensively in LF for probably somewhere around $300K-$3 mill a year.

QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) My previous post needs a little clarification: If gload plays left, who leads off? Uhhh...Gload?
-
QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 12:04 PM) Why?? His streak continues because he didn't get an official plate appearance. MLB doesn't want someone to lose a hit streak because they didn't get a chance to extend it. To be technical, he didn't have an official at bat. He had 4 plate appearances. Qwerty and I were talking about this last night. I didn't think the streak should continue, because he played a game, and didn't get a hit...but the rule is what it is, and I understand it. With no ABs, it doesn't count against you.

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread
witesoxfan replied to greasywheels121's topic in 2006 Season in Review
Hopefully the rest of the clubhouse hears about this. Sandy's spent a lot of time in Chicago over the past 5 years...3 different stints to be specific...and I hope this gives them the motivation to try and get one more. Sandy's a class act, and I'd hate to see him leave the game without a ring, especially considering how many winning teams he's been on. -
Right now, I could care less about how good or bad he is defensively in LF, because for starters, he can't be worse defensively than Pods, and he'd be a hell of a lot better offensively. Not sure why Ozzie hasn't even tried it though. That's what bugs me so much - Ozzie has not even TRIED someone else in Pods place. It's almost like he's ignorant to the fact that Podsednik has blown in the second half.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 12:53 PM) I'd rather pull my groin than rip my ACL. Wouldn't I? Imagine that. Being forced to choose between your groin and knee. Ay ay ay, no me gusta! Kill me now

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 01:07 PM) Anyone know what's happening with Radke? I know he's got the bumb shoulder but are they just resting him hoping to get one or two starts at the end of the season? from KFFL, via Yahoo news and notes -
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 12:32 PM) This is a ridiculous start time after a friday night game. Probably a gopher game late that afternoon. I'm hoping that the game Friday night will lock us up a playoff spot. LMAO, could you imagine if it did? Come Saturday morning, Ozzie would probably use a split squad lineup and just not even show up.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) You can't rely on three guys "exclusively." You'd kill their arms! Fact is, Black Mack and Hermanson will have to appear sometimes, as will Cotts and Logan. I think that's obvious. Soxhawk is basically saying limit them to as little as possible. If the Sox are up 2-1 in a tight game in the 6th, and the starter's on the ropes...go to Thornton/MackyD. Do not go to Cotts, BMac, Logan, or Hermanson.
