  1. Spend $18 mill tops on Beltran(and possibly much less), $12 mill on Pavano, and $8 mill on Renteria. Why did they not do that? With Beltran no longer going to Anaheim...I think I honestly see him remaining in Houston. Or maybe that's just because I do not want to see him end up in NY. Not sure which.
  2. Welcome aboard. I am one of the moderators here, along with Gene Honda Civic(who you will almost undoubtedly hear referred to as Cheat), and DBAH0 is also a moderator of Pale Hose Talk, along with all the other forums. You should enjoy the site a lot. Just remember that most of these people are hard core fans...which means you will catch on quickly and will fit right in
  3. I'll edit the spelling of the title here real quick before anyone notices...hehe. I do not know what to make of this move, quite honestly.
  4. They were, and then they dropped out of the picture when the Yankees had interest in him...that's the way the national media works. If the Yankees have interest in a guy, no one else does until he signs with that team or until he signs with the Yankees. It is, in a way, a very good way to approach it, because if you are wrong, it's just dirt off your shoulder, because the Yankees "did" have interest in him...but if you're right, you are the greatest sports mind alive.
  5. Agreed. But if we got Gordon along with him, and NY paid for most of the salary... is Lee > Vazquez and Gordon?
  6. Because you put guys in the lineup where they are suited best. He could be a #3 hitter for the Sox, and he could do well...but I feel along with many others that he'd be better suited for the #2 spot. He is basically pencilled in to be our #2 hitter next year.
  7. Don't know why nobody is mentioning Harris. Obviously he has fallen out of favor with Oz and KW, so he is very available...and considering his average was .262 and his ObP was .343, that tells me he does take walks. He'd be a perfect #9 hitter in that Oakland lineup, and if he could blossom and become a .280-.300 guy with a .360-.380 OBP, Beane would feel justified. I think the very best we could come out on this deal is Lee and Harris for Hudson...and we may have to give up more then that. That being said...Hudson is the pitcher I have wanted most and is the guy I hoped KW would want most. I do feel he could very easily put us over the top. A 1-2-3 of Hudson-Buehrle-Garcia could be the best in the AL, and our rotation could be the best in the majors. Add to that the fact that our bullpen is already very solid, and that we may just have to add a piece or two come June or July, and we are set. This is one of those trades that I want to see happen so much, yet at the same time, do not want to see happen at all. Part of you almost hopes that some team will come over the top of your offer and can best it, but another part says you do not wish to see that happen. It would be hard to say bye to CLee...hes a friggin monster. Yet at the same time it is very understandable why we would want to do that. Whatever happens, happens, I suppose
  8. Ahh...thanks much. Should have known that...don't know why I didn't.
  9. Good move for the Sawks. BTW...3E8...who is that in your avatar? Looks like a face I should recognize but I do not recognize it.
  10. When at full strength, the lineup will likely be... Willie - 2B Rowand - CF Thomas - DH Lee - LF/Konerko - 1B Dye - RF Gload - 1B/Everett - LF Uribe - SS Crede - 3B Davis - C Not nearly as strong as we've had in years past..but it's capable of being good.
  11. If RJ would go to Texas, he'd go to Chicago too. No way do I see that happening...not even close
  12. Neither will Maggs The best Maggs has ever hit in a season is .320, and he normally hits around .310-.315. Not much noteworthy there, just saying.
  13. If he's non-tendered, sure. If he's not...no chance.
  14. The starting lineup itself is not real deep right now, so to compensate for that, you should make the bench as deep as you can...that's exactly how I feel. By doing that, you have to spend money on it. The amount of money the bench makes means nothing to me. We need our bench to be as good as possible, especially if we were to go into the year with Gload, Harris, and Crede starting. That could either be really scary, or really good. I just do not see how having a deep bench hurts us, even if it costs around $10 mill.
  15. By 5th starter, without even having listened to it, I can almsot assure you he is talking about adding another starter in general, not a starter that would keep Garland in the #4 spot. We have only 4 starters right now...getting another starter without giving up one of them, no matter who it is, would be us getting a 5th starter...be it Randy Johnson, Tim Hudson, Matt Clement, Odalis Perez, Javy Vazquez, Jason Grilli, or Scott Schoenweis. That person will be the 5th and final starter we need. That's how I view it anyways.
  16. Go ahead...let them have Maggs. Just hit him as many times as you can when we play them.
  17. And to end this boring dispute... 56789's looks best all around, and I like the stripes on Dorf's more then I do the blank.
  18. Because the only guy on that list that has ever played any 3B(that I can recall) is Colbrunn, and I do not believe he can play 3B anymore either with any effectiveness due to his range disappearing as he gets older. And I do not see why you are trying to make Hillenbrand out to be a bad player. He has hit atleast .280 15 80 .782 every year over the last 3...not good, but not as bad as you are trying to make him sound. If we can have that on our bench as insurance in case Gload or Crede cannot cut it this year, or if one of them has to be a part of a trade for it to get through(in that scenario I would imagine it would be Crede that would have to be traded over Gload), or just as a guy who can come off the bench and play very well for us over the course of the season, I would be very happy. That helps give the Sox as much depth, if not more depth, then any team in the AL.
  19. Wow...I like that a lot. Sounds kind of like a guy who wants to bust ass and help the team win.
  20. Gload would start. Hillenbrand would just come off the bench and play 1B-3B.
  21. Because Nick Johnson can't play 3B, and because Shea Hillenbrand would not start here, but rather come off the bench and play 1B and 3B.
  22. I too just got home...lol...I feel this is a very good signing. For $4 mill, we get one of the better second tier OFers on the market...he will be a good #5 hitter for us. Secondly...on this Sox-DBacks-Yanks talk...If Zona truly is looking for a 1Bman(with it being Konerko), and with them apparently either being very close to or having signed Glaus already(am not sure if it has happened, as I haven't checked yet), doesn't that make Shea Hillenbrand available? I know many here feel Vazquez would stink in USCF due to his GB-FB ratio, among other things...I too feel the same sentiments. However, if we could get Hillenbrand along with Vazquez while getting cash from New York to take on a considerable portion of Javy's remaining salary(I would say anywhere from 35-50% of it), that would save us approximately $4-5 mill this year, wouldn't it? IIRC, Vazquez is making around $10 mill this year, and Hillenbrand will make probably around $2-3 mill...that's $13 mill, and with New York hypothetically taking on $4 mill off Javy's contract for this year, that puts it at a combined total of $9 mill. As of right now, the Sox have approximately $6 mill to spend to reach that $75 mill I believe DBAH0 figured...take Konerko($8.5) and Garland($3.5), off, and then add in the $9 mill we get in Vazquez and Hillenbrand, and that leaves us with rougly $9 mill to spend. Doesn't Renteria figure to make between $7-8 mill a year? Not even saying that's what the Sox might be thinking...I'm just saying.
  23. I'll tell you who could pitch for the White Sox, but you guys would probably just tell me to shut up.
