He hit like .285 over most of the regular season this year IIRC...unless they fear a sophomore slump, I really see no problem with letting him hit 2nd.
-
No he's not. Valentin will cost less in all likelyhood, is better defensively, and can actually run the bases(and, if you want to use the intangibles too, Valentin does atleast provide some leadership...Guzman provides none). Consider that this was probably Valentin's worst year ever(or, at the very least, his worst in a White Sox uniform), and that usually he is good for atleast .235-25(or 30)-70 with an OPS of over .900 against RHP. Guzman is way overrated by you guys...just because he played for the Twins doesn't make him a good player.
-
Guzman is a very streaky player. He is definately lazy in the field. But I wouldn't compare him to Jimenez though. Guzman is good defensively, is not nearly as good offensively, and is not a dickhead. For having real good speed, he does not steal a lot of bases...in fact, the 10-for-15 stat is accurate and proves how bad he really is. I would say no to Guzman...I want to become like the Twins, but getting Guzman would not be step in the right way.

And it was Gonzalez's fault that they lost...he booted a taylor-made double play to end the threat, which would have put the Cubs in the Series. -
Beltran, best player in the game? No. Maybe best all around player in the game...that I'd agree with. But I take Bonds or Pujols ahead of Beltran right now without much thinking.

Gore's a hell of a player, I can say that for sure. Just too bad that he is on his 3rd knee...if that knee can stay in tact(very, very doubtful), he will be a stud RB in the NFL.
-
No. Too many bridges have been burnt for me to even consider him an option at this point.
-
Was he trying to get the band back together or what?

BTW...since this really is not Sox related at all, I am going to move it to the Sports Bar -

That was great. It was Gonzalez's fault that they didn't make the Series with the boot...but Bartman only helped. -
Trippy doesn't even begin to describe that.

You just landed your dream job? Does that mean you won that show on ESPN? Congrats man. Drink a few with some friends to celebrate.

He doesn't even look interesting. Unless someone hit rewind button the time machine button again and it's 1995.

Schilling could be gone for...

Well that's a b****. -
I think if you bring Pedro on, you have to trade Konerko...there is not a one-step easy-to-fix solution if Lee were to be traded. However, there is one at 1B if Konerko were to be dealt. We have Gload, and I don't think that playing time he got down the stretch was just due to us being out of it and Ozzie wanting to play the bench. I think they were seriously looking at how he was going to handle starting, and I think he handled it quite well. What I think could happen is that they could trade Konerko to perhaps Baltimore for maybe Hairston/Roberts and Julio...Hairston would then end up at either 2B or RF/CF(or if Roberts, just 2B), and Julio would end up in the bullpen. You then slip Gload into the lineup at 1B and adjust from there. And even after that, you can look at Jose Guillen from Anaheim. You gotta figure that if you sign Pedro that clubhouse chemistry probably no longer matters, so you go out and get Guillen for a decent price(maybe you could get him for Jon Adkins even...probably a very small, very cheap package) and slip him in RF. If we signed Pedro, you would see KW's creativeness come out. It would have to. If he didn't get creative, it would cost him his job.

Just visited the site, and from what I can tell, it doesn't look like the Braves are going to be giving him up anytime soon. Either that, or they just really like him a lot.
-
That's exactly what would happen too. Buehrle was most definately the ace of this year's staff, Garcia the #2, Contreras the #3, Garland the #4, and then the huge ? at the 5th spot. Every one of those pitchers is best suited one spot back...what does Pedro do? Signing Pedro counters the emergence of Johan Santana too. Those series become much more even too. If we have a decent bullpen...ie, the way it was in the first half...and we could win this division with ease. I am all for freeing up some payroll and going after Pedro.
-
If they don't mind having an awful arm in RF, then Lee/Thomas would be great for them. Also, I do not believe we need to include Uribe in the deal. With us getting Furcal, they could then go out and sign Vizquel to a 2-year deal for around $8-10 mill with an option for the 3rd year. If he hits well enough, he can lead off for them, with Giles/Thomas remaining in the #2 spot, and the other moving down in the order. IMO, if Uribe is part of the deal, I say no...I really like Uribe. He looks like he could be a hell of a good player someday. BTW...qwerty, I know you're right now that you bring it up. I'm remembering that he signed a 2-year, $15 mill in like Feb of 03...$6 mill in 03, $8 mill in 04 and that option for 06 of a $1 mill buyout...so he's guaranteed $15 mill.

I read somewhere, though I can't recall off the top of my head, that the Brewers payroll will increase to like $40 mill next year...and while that is not a lot, consider that it is like a 50% increase(from about $27.5 mill this year, to the near $40 mill). I just hope they do keep this core together. The Brewers are friggin stacked and could be a fun team to watch over the next couple years. Also...if we were to trade for RJ...it would be around the ASB, because, for starters, he wouldn't accept a trade to Chicago anyways...his main goal is to get to the playoffs...so why would he come to a team in the offseason that hasn't been the to playoffs since 2000 and hasn't proven that they can consistently win?
-
It would have been boom or bust in October. Either they would have been embarrassed by New York and booed off the field in game 3 as the Yankees wrapped it up in Chicago, or they would have very well and would have made a lot of noise.
-
If the Braves lose Drew, what use do they have with Lee? From what I can tell, Charles Thomas does not have the arm to play RF, and Lee sure as hell can't play RF on a regular basis either. I mean, I do see pieces of a big time trade that could be made between the two teams...with Furcal having run ins with the law, and Garland being mediocre for us, I definately do. And I'm wondering personally why Atlanta wouldn't want Konerko over Lee...Lee's the better ballplayer(or atleast I think he is), so his value is higher...but as I said, Atlanta really has no use for Lee, while they do Konerko, and, IIRC, Lee is scheduled to make more money next year then Konerko is anyways(just barely, but he does). I could definately see a swap of like Konerko, Garland, and Adkins for Furcal and Cruz...something along those lines.

You mean like... traveshamockery ? Yeah, I agree, those commericials got pretty lame.
-
And when he started striking people out, he started getting hit a little bit. That guys a stud. I want him on my team.
-
I try not to think about last year. That team would have won it all. I got a feeling they breeze through the Yankees, beat the Sawks, and take out the Fish. Too many bad losses though...Loaiza losing 1-0 3 times, losing 8 games to the Tigers, getting swept by the Tigers, goin 3-7 against horses*** teams before the ASB, and then losing 5 straight to Minnesota...that killed us. We win half of the games I just brought up, and we are in the playoffs with ease. Damn, that is hard to think about. I atleast want to see Frank get back to the playoffs...JR needs to spend about $80 mill and give the Sox a legitamate chance at getting in this year...we need to f***ing beat the Twins next year.
