  1. Craig is 30, is injury prone, and has been terrible this year, while Joe Kelly is really nothing more than a so-so arm. It's better than nothing, I guess, but I'm not too crazy about that return for Boston.
  2. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 10:57 AM) Yeah, stupid opponents throwing their lefty starters on a Thursday when they're supposed to do it on Sunday. I hate it to death.
  3. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 11:03 AM) Rick Hahn NOT making any trades doesn't mean he did nothing at the deadline. He has 5 or 6 players he realistically could trade. If the return isn't fair, why make a trade for the sake of making a trade. Sox fans: "...for the sake of Pete! Trade somebody! Anybody!" followed shortly by "They only got Francisco Cervelli for Alexei Ramirez? WTF, why didn't they get more, FIRE HAHN"
  4. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 10:49 AM) Beckham hitting 6th incase he's traded? That way Gillaspie can just slide into the lineup and hits 6th moving Garcia over to 2B if he were to get traded during the game It's a Sunday sort of lineup on a Thursday.
  5. QUOTE (staxx @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 10:49 AM) Wouldn't they be able to have someone getting ready on the side along with Danks? That would allow them to wait until even closer to game time for the scratch. That would be interesting. Would be awesome if we had someone in Detroit right now letting us know the guys who are getting ready.
  6. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 10:44 AM) rick hahn is doing nothing No.
  7. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 10:40 AM) Any updates Rock? They're still talking.
  8. Yeah, so maybe making comparisons to Hall of Famers is just a little bit ridiculous, absurd, crazy, and non-sensical. I mean, you mention the age 26 season but fail to compare their age 25 seasons. Boggs only hit .361/.444/.486/.931 and had a K/BB of 0.39 (which is a BB/K of 2.555555555555555555). He compares more favorably to Bill Mueller, if anyone. That's not a bad thing.
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 10:26 AM) Gillaspie is sitting today. #HugWatch (kidding)
  10. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 09:51 AM) But who to chicago? Doran is scheduled to pitch in Charlotte today. Used to have a Twitter account as far as I can tell, but no longer does. He didn't join the organization that long ago and, when looking it up, it does say he is part of the White Sox. Wonder when he deleted it. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 09:56 AM) Really intrigued to see the Milone return. Hope we tried Agreed.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 09:35 AM) If they can offer him arbitration, can they make him a qualifying offer? If not, they won't get comp. No idea why Boston wouldn't be able to extend a qualifying offer.

    Food

    I've had really, really good pizza, but I'm typically not picky about it. Most pizza is edible and not overly offensive. I had one of the best meals and overall restaurant experiences I've ever had last night. Really cool atmosphere, great service, fantastic food all around, and not very expensive. I had a duck stroganoff and oh god I can still taste it and it was so ridiculously good.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 09:02 AM) Good call To be fair, I don't think anyone considered the possibility he'd trade Cespedes.
  14. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 07:46 AM) We won't, but the White Sox will. I've been working the phones all day though, so it's not as if we haven't made the effort to do so.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:39 AM) One of the best deadlines was 2004. I was watching ESPN as the clock struck zero. It's when the Cubs got Nomar and the Sox picked up Contreras. There was a flury in the last hour. The 2009 season was cool too. The Sox and Padres agreed to package for Peavy in late May and we found out that Peavy turned the trade down. Come the trade deadline, we found out the Sox did end up trading for him, and this was after all the offseason hoopla of the Cubs acquiring him.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:24 AM) You're assuming we could just basically give the Danks contract to the Yankees and they would take him off our hands, like Rios when KW claimed him off waivers. I think if that was the case, Hahn would let him go in a heartbeat. I don't understand why we would have much leverage with the Astros flooding the market with their top 3 starters...and the Yankees already having picked up Capuano and McCarthy. The only real leverage we have is working against us, those other AL East teams (Blue Jays, Orioles) knowing that Lester is out there and that the Red Sox don't want him to go to the Yankees. Especially if Hamels is off the market...looks like the Rays will hold onto Price until the off-season or next trade deadline. The Sox leverage is that they won't require near the talent to acquire Danks as the Astros will to acquire their's and he may be just as good, but he does cost more monetarily. As long as Danks represents an upgrade to a team's rotation, the immediate interest is worthwhile.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 01:47 AM) Not another player who is being beloved by some on Soxtalk ... Webb. Geez. What have Nate Jones and Webb done to be so beloved? Webb has been total horses***. Yet some want Robin to have used him in high pressure situations as if he'd actually do better in those situations. I do feel badly for Nate with the Tommy John. He'll obviously not be heard from again for a long long time. Daniel Webb had an ERA of 1.87, a K/9 of 11.2, BB/9 of 3.9, and he allowed 1 home run in 62.2 IP in the minors last year. He came up and had a bit of success this year and has been fairly good this year. He throws 94-97 MPH and has good stuff otherwise. He's 24 years old. Yet, just so everyone knows, greg says he's horses***, nevermind a 3.38 ERA, 3.86 FIP, 4.37 xFIP, 52% GB rate, and decent K numbers that will likely improve over time. Nate Jones is a very good reliever too, but I'm not going to get into those numbers, and he's obviously hurt for a while now.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 04:35 PM) Big decision now for the front office whether they want to pay him for another year of non-activity. There's no decision to be made. You don't non-tender that kind of arm. If the Sox are lucky, he's back by July or August of next year, knocks off some of the rust, and is ready to go full time again in 2016.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 03:14 PM) Hawk's a big fan of Felix. Not a bad move for the Cubs, especially as the piece going back doesn't seem to be a big deal. I like Doubront. His velocity is down a bit this year, but it's a worthwhile gamble.
  20. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 02:28 PM) Rob Bradford @bradfo · 7m As @jonmorosi reported Miami in on Lackey with Danks other target The Marlins???? The Marlins are at .500 and are 4 back of a Wild Card spot.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 02:26 PM) But that is where the error lies...if you're going to pull him after that anyways, you make the change. And I understand if you did that you could argue that you'd be overmanaging; at some point you have to get outs without playing every matchup....and I'm not saying this particular example really even bothers me. But it's just another in a long line of headscratchers where eventually you reach the conclusion that this guy is not a good tactical decision-maker. I doubt they wanted to face Harper in that situation no matter who was pitching, given how he'd been hitting the ball early in the year, so then you are talking about Axelrod or Santiago facing Zimmerman. Typically, you're going to want to go with the righty.
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 02:24 PM) I agree...but how else do you evaluate him then? It's harder for us to do so. This isn't football or basketball where coaching is so much more of the game. I think basically all we can do is set our expectations for the team and compare those results, and see what the team's attitude is like. In 2011, you could tell the team was tuned out the entire time, whereas in 2013, I didn't get that impression but I could sense that the team was down and beat and just knew they weren't good enough. They seem different again this year.
  23. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 02:20 PM) Nah...I'm not going to go as far as some of these other folks...but I've been displeased with him since '12...(ask Fathom) I'm not going to sit here and try to determine how many games he has cost us, but for a guy that played the game for his entire life, he seems to have very poor instincts from a strategical or tactical viewpoint. He may be wonderful with managing the clubhouse, and that is the lion's share of the job, but I do believe he holds us back quite a bit. I won't disagree that he's made some moves that have been real head scratchers. He had Youkilis try and bunt against Detroit 2 years ago and I remember immediately hating every bit of it. Still, it's hard for me to look at some of these situations and criticize them too harshly. In the Nationals example, if Axelrod gets Zimmerman out and is pulled after that, nobody thinks anything of it. He got burned.
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 01:58 PM) When it's Dylan Axelrod? I don't find that absurd at all. Axelrod was fantastic in the minors in '11 and '12, was great in a cup of coffee in the majors '11, and was bad but with positive signs in '12 in the majors. At that point, the Sox didn't know exactly what they had in Axelrod, and again, he was coming off a pretty good first start. The only way I'm pulling him there is if it was a high leverage game, and there is no such thing as a high leverage game 9 games into the season.
