  1. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 09:14 AM) Both those guys are substantially more desirable options. Danks would be the emergency consolation prize fat chick.
  2. Oh man, I forgot all about Josh Vitters. His case is the exact reason I could not possibly care less about prospect rankings. BP had him #45 pre 2008, #41 pre 2009, and #35 pre 2010 without the tiniest logical explanation as to why. BA had him 43, 51, and 70 too so they don't go without blame. His line this year you ask? .205/.263/.329/.592
  3. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 07:44 PM) Then what is Kendrys Morales? I need to understand. An ex-girlfriend who has gotten uglier but you still need some and rather than trying something new, you just say "screw it, let's go."
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 02:40 PM) Yet they ran a guy out the league for being a total asshole. The league is better without Incognito in it. There's no place for douchebags like that in any workplace environment.
  5. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 04:31 PM) He's just not good. HE'S GREAT
  6. For all intents and purposes, the numbers are now interchangeable between 2B and 3B regarding offensive output where years ago it used to be that 3B was just a step below 1B.
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 03:27 PM) Umm...why didn't they just sign him when he was a free agent for half the season? HEY DO YOU RUN A BASEBALL TEAM I DON'T THINK SO DON'T QUESTION JACK'S MOTIVES
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 03:14 PM) If Beckham is the Sox biggest bust, they apparently are a lot better at drafting then anyone realizes. He's 3rd or 4th overall in career WAR for 2008 1st round picks. This was kind of what I was getting at with my previous posts, and you know my feelings on Beckham. If I'm coming to Beckham's back, someone is seriously misrepresenting who he is and what he's done.
  9. I honestly did not know that. POINT REMAINS, HE BATS LEFTY MOST OF THE TIME, I WIN
  10. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 09:53 AM) Yea thats where I stopped reading I did too. AJ's farewell letter is going to be "SEE YA F***O'S!
  11. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 02:03 PM) Mariners acquire Kendry Morales, give up Stephen Pryor: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/07/mari...ys-morales.html Seems to effectively eliminate possibility of Viciedo going to SEA. Either Jack Z is crazy or he really believes that only left handed hitters can have success at SafeCo.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 01:32 PM) I'm serious, smart ass. That's why the fines are lower. One is an action which directly affects his performance on the field of play and another is one which affects his personal life. The fact that the League feels the need to fine these guys at all for stuff occurring in their personal lives is ridiculous to begin with. What is the point of a $58k fine to begin with? The guy makes millions of dollars. You think if common sense and decency isn't enough to stop the guy from beating his wife in public, a $58k fine is? Frankly, it's the same thing for marijuana. If I got a DUI right now, I'd probably have to have a sit down with my bosses and there would be several bureaucratic hoops I'd have to jump through, but I'd retain my job. But if my urine tested positive for marijuana ONE TIME, no matter if it's legal in some states, decriminalized in others, and otherwise not harmful, I'd be fired on the spot.
  13. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 01:19 PM) You said it yourself man, they hate him. Do your really want to be the guy trying to change public opinion with OPS talk at this point? You literally have to watch EVERY game to see Dunn's value by adding up walks. Most fans turn on a game or go to a game and more than likely see Dunn do absolutely nothing. I'd say I get to watch about 3/4 of the games, which is arguably more than most fans, and even I feel like he is rarely in the middle of something interesting. I feel like if we don't trade him then the Sox will honor the contract. I'm all for a trade of Dunn and a Paulie-led charge to the playoffs It's a good thing the front office makes roster moves based on who the fans hate and do not hate.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 11:54 AM) With Fields and Brian Anderson following closely in terms of negative impact on the franchise in the last decade. Fields, because with Crede's demise, it led to the revolving door of Teahen/Viciedo/Beckham/Omar Vizquel/Morel/Hudson/Youkilis, etc. Anderson, because "Torii Hunter Lite" never came to fruition, except against Felix Hernandez...leading to another huge hole in the line-up in CF that has lasted until 2014. Borchard was our best chance at a home-grown left-handed power hitter in a generation. His failure more or less led to the acquisition of Thome eventually, and then Dunn. And Jon Rauch, not because of his draft position, but expectations and what he actually accomplished in a Sox uniform. But that's not the point. Rauch was a bust of a prospect (even aside from having a good career as a reliever), but he was a phenomenal draft pick. That's the merits of what I'm discussing. It's even hard for me to call Anderson or Fields busts. Both made it to the majors and had some iotas of success. Also, I take back the Borchard thing. He was a good prospect. He's just in a weird class because so much was expected of him, he appeared as though he was going to deliver, and then everything fell apart. He was valuable enough to get a guy who turned into the best left handed reliever in the game though, so it is hard to say he was a bust of a draft pick.
  15. It's hard for me to consider Beckham a bust of a draft pick considering he made it to the majors and has been a steady contributor when you are comparing him to guys like Jared Mitchell, Kyle McCulloch, Lance Broadway, Kris Honel, and Jason Stumm. As a prospect, yes, but a lot of those first rounders never even got close to Beckham's status as a prospect. EDIT: Given everything, I think Joe Borchard is the biggest draft bust in the franchise's history.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 11:35 AM) Agreed. Peavy was traded on the 30th (late)--and I think he was scheduled to go on the 31st. So in other words--if Danks is getting traded in July, I expect it to be before he takes the mound on the 31st. But the game itself should be good "hugwatch" material. The lineup that day should be interesting. I seem to recall that they announced that Peavy was being skipped from his 31st start prior to being traded though. The same thing would most certainly happen with Danks, especially if they are deep into conversations. I honestly think this team could trade (or shed) a lot of players and end up better in August and September.
  17. If he's even being discussed in rumors, he'll be "skipped" like Peavy was last year.
  18. Not sure that you can conclude how their future infield will be set up based on internal discussions of "possibly moving" Kris Bryant to RF "some day." This is nothing to say for trades or busts or anything of the like.
  19. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 06:53 PM) Yeah, ain't hat the truth. But if they followed Future Sox on twitter they would be the most knowledgeable fans out there and would immediately set the record straight. This post is paid for by the "Follow FutureSox on Twitter" campaign.
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 09:36 AM) Alcantara has been playing CF recently. The future is Rizzo 1B, Baez 2B, Russell SS, Castro 3B, Bryant LF, Alcantara CF. Yeah that's pretty impossible to know at this point.
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 09:46 AM) I think HOU upped their offer so as to not loose the pick on their misdealing. again it was covering themselves just in case they were screwed. question, if they believe they were right, then why up their offer at the last sec. To try and get him to sign and avoid a PR disaster while also retaining the services to their 5th round pick.
  22. Speaking of Borderlands 2, I finally got The Bee last night at level 51. That's going to make so many things so much easier.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 08:48 AM) It has nothing to do with his OPS or his production the last two months (or lack thereof). Comparing OPS in a vacuum doesn't help much either, because we all know Alexei Ramirez is worth 10X what Adam is despite a lower OPS. It's all about 2015. Replaced immediately...maybe that's too strong, but why would it matter if he was, assuming they could get $2-4 million of salary relief at least? Is there anyone who would care one way or the other if Dunn is gone? I would venture to say that more fans would come out to the ballpark to see youngsters who have the drive/fire/determination to prove themselves than someone playing out the string. The White Sox are basically stuck between 4-8 games below .500 and nothing dramatic is going to change that, so what's the harm in finding out if Wilkins is capable of putting up an 800+ OPS against RHP? If he does that, it means the White Sox could use their RH players (Garcia, Viciedo, Semien, etc.) next year in combination with Wilkins and save spending $10-15 million on a veteran DH. You are basing this off like a 2 week hot streak. I want you to remember that. If Dunn is traded (I believe he will be), I have no problem giving Wilkins a look for the remainder of the season, but counting on him as anything but insurance next year is crazy talk. I might actually prefer Jim Thome as the Sox full time DH.
  24. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 08:23 PM) There is a signifcant difference with an ACL tear in a basketball player and a non-throwing shoulder injury in an outfielder. Let alone the fact that one had a suture repair of tissue and the other had a full blown ligament replacement. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 09:07 PM) Na dude, same thing. Nice try with the "science". It was an admittedly bad attempt at a joke. If the guy's ready, go for it, I'm not going to be upset.
