Is Ventura the worst manager in the history of MLB?
witesoxfan replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:14 PM) This man has got to go. He's absolutely destroyed the confidence of every member of our bullpen. /facepalm You realize the Twins hit the s*** out of every pitcher the Sox threw at them this weekend right? They even tagged Sale pretty good. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:21 PM) It takes a great manager to understand the genius of batting the worst hitter on the team 2nd. He's trying to get him some better pitches to hit to increase his value so the Sox can trade him for a piece and get something for him rather than nothing. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:44 PM) This bullpen is the result of a ridiculously weak farm. And there's nothing to bring in. Now it is Rick Hahn's or Kenny Williams's or Buddy Bell's fault. And also, Robin's fault. -
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 11:38 PM) The career stats back up my belief that our bullpen sucks because of Robin's complete ignorance in using it and lack of defining roles for anyone. He's ccmpletely destroyed the morale and confidence of all our relievers and it would make no difference who was in our pen. With as many things as he's done to damage this team and ruin our playoff chances, I don't see how we can continue to keep him in the position. The time has come for the organization to make a change and there's no need to wait even one day more. Fire Robin now! But if Ozzie Guillen had been the one calling for those guys out of the bullpen, everything would have worked out.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 06:36 PM) Typical White Sox. Rookie pitcher is the fall guy when one of the veterans (Rienzo, Belisario, Guerra) could just as easily be scapegoated off the roster. Surkamp's been around a bit, too. He's not exactly a spring chicken. NESTOR MOLINA will save the day and validate KW as the all-time smartest GM ever... wat -

QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 04:31 PM) Didn't Dayan get pulled early from the game yesterday? I only saw it from the boxscore, so I admittedly have no idea why, but could his absence today be tied to that? He was pinch hit for. -
There's not a lot to get excited about here. Minor league numbers are fairly pedestrian and he's only at 92 with his fastball. I wouldn't be upset either way.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 03:13 PM) Yes, but not in the major leagues and he has more plate appearances than Leury. This is what I get for sticking my nose in places it doesn't belong. I am going to butt out. I like Leury and I think his skill set plays well off the bench. I do wish he'd get a few more opportunities at SS.
-
Not trying to nitpick, but the only one of those moves I believe is legitimately possible is Andrew Miller, and I think he'd rather take a lower AAV and get a 3 year deal. Even still, he could probably make $7-8 mill over 3 years anyways.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 03:00 PM) If we have enough infor to know what Leury is, using the same criteria, it's time to cut bait on Marcus Semien as well, correct? Semien has a wRC+ of 118 in AAA this year.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 02:02 PM) Fixed. Awww Dunn is better than Francis, c'mon now.
-
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 01:32 PM) You and your buddy need to keep your ideas to yourselves IMO. The should have him pitch out of the bullpen too. Guys got a big arm. He was a U of Texas QB recruit. I'm sure he can groove some fastballs too.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 12:34 PM) I don't see why we can't give Dunn a qualifying offer and then try HIM at shortstop. Oh my god this is the greatest idea I've ever read on this board.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 11:57 AM) You don't think with a better pen the Sox compete for the WC? He didn't say contending for a title, or even the central, just the WC. The Sox are 7 games behind the Tigers and 6.5 behind the Blue Jays. They also have more teams to jump in the Wild Card, so that 6.5 game deficit may as well be 10 games. No, I don't think for a second that they'd be in the Wild Card hunt. Just because there have been some failures doesn't mean that the bullpen wouldn't have failed even if it was "better." It may have just failed in other games. Bullpens are fickle and when you play close games like that, you are going to lose some of them. Frankly, I think a better bullpen gets 2 more wins. Better production out of LF, RF, and 2B would be much more likely to contribute to the team being contenders in either race.

Less than 4 months. That is absolutely incredible. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 11:47 AM) Sox aren't garbage. They're average. They're are a bullpen away from probably being in the race for the wild card. They are a hell of a lot more than that.

Sorry, in a goofy mood today, and I like giving TUC grief. I do really like Rondon though.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 11:34 AM) I don't know, why? Because freedom rings.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 11:18 AM) Facebook is down, so it's up to you guys to entertain me until it's back up or 4:00, whichever comes first. Why aren't there any knock knock jokes about the USA?

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 11:06 AM) Not sure how it looks but I think the plan is: Rotation: 1) Sign or trade for a RHSP we can pencil in as the #2 2) Danks is gone, Rodon starts in Triple A to start the season IF he doesn't win a ST SP battle 3) Noesi is the RHSP in the 4th slot but he has to battle someone (with actual ability, not just Carroll, but probably Johnson, Beck, and hopefully a new addition) Bullpen: 1) Sign one veteran RH for the late innings to a 1-year deal or 2 year deal with an option (more of a major signing) 2) Trade for or sign a lefty (more of a larger acquistion, like Downs was) 3) Spot patch the rest of the way, giving up no real prospects, taking on little if any salary Offense/Defense: 1) Acquire a big, young LH power bat.... we may need to make a bigger deal for this to happen, so I'm not sure it does happen because it might cost Q to get someone at the MLB level or close 2) Find a 2016+ SS Catcher: 1) Flowers is fine at least as a backup because if nothing else he can handle the staff 2) Nieto should be in the minors starting unless the Sox are somehow extremely aggressive with him 3) The Sox should look to trade for or sign a veteran until someone younger/better fitting comes along... but no way should the Sox deal their biggest pieces to try to plug the C hole with a prospect, that would likely be a huge mistake IMO because most of these guys flat out bust 4) If the Sox can't find a longer term (3+) year solution at catcher for a reasonable price then get a platoon partner for Flowers or a marginal upgrade, but someone who can handle the staff, and just deal with it Trades: 1) Alexei needs to be traded because he's our best piece aside from Q 2) Tank needs to be traded because he's probably one of our best avenues to bring in a player with upside, and although the player we get will probably look like a bust or be underwhelming there should be real talent there 3) Sox should be willing to eat some cash or package a small piece to move Danks and clear the way for Rodon But the Sox have a big, young LH power bat. His name is Adam Dunn.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 10:05 AM) What was the reason he (Amaro) gave to the media for not making any moves? That they weren't willing to meet his asking price, blah blah blah??? Glad that jackass isn't anywhere near the White Sox. http://deadspin.com/phillies-gm-explains-w...tter-1614497314. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 09:47 AM) I don't know whether he could have. Maybe if he planned on sending 150M in total as part of the trades, could he have done so. I think teams would have traded for Burnett, Papelbon, Hamels, Utley, and Rollins with no problem, and he could have possibly traded Byrd, Bastardo, Hernandez, Ruiz, and Lee too. -

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 09:43 AM) I think that at least most of us should all be able to agree on the following, going forward from today through the rest of the season: 1) The season is over, it has been over, this is garbage time only, and any dreams of hotstreaks and 2nd wildcard spots are foolishness; 2) Because of the above, the focus needs to be entirely on 2015 and beyond ONLY; 3) Because of the above, we need to use the remaining schedule, the remaining PA and IP available, also the remaining defensive innings positionally, to "see what we have" i.e. answer as many questions as possible heading into the organizational meetings where we will really put forth an action plan for the offseason Now given those 3 above points which by now we should really all agree on, I think this is what we need to do: 1) Still do everything possible to dump Danks (if we can, but probably not) 2) Open up playing time everywhere and anywhere possible for anyone we think has at least *some chance* of being part of our future, whether it is a more of longshot like a Carlos Sanchez or Andy Wilkins, or a pretty solid bet like Marcus Semien 3) Still do everything possible on the waiver wire and/or in small trades at the MiLB level - keep in mind that only players protected on the 40man need to pass through waivers, the same trade rules as before apply to prospects not on the 40 - to acquire at least 1-2 pieces worth throwing out there in late August & September 4) Realize that 2014 payroll costs are fully sunk, completely unrecoverable, a total waste of time, and that the 2015+ payroll situation is really what matters. So you are prepared to dump Dunn & Beckham at full salary, especially if another team somehow by some great miracle decides to offer you a longshot prospect/reclamation project that is actually worth trying out for a month plus. 5) RESIGN ADAM DUNN TO 12 YEAR, $400 MILLION CONTRACT So Hahn needs to get busy. I fixed your list for you. -

It could be worse - the Sox GM could be Ruben Amaro Jr. He made 0 trades yesterday when he could have realistically made like 4 or 5. -
Is Ventura the worst manager in the history of MLB?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 03:45 AM) Funny thing is Bevington or Kessinger actually might be the worst manager in history of MLB. So the Sox did have the worst ever possibly. Bill Veeck had the fans manage for a game. They were given signs and were allowed to vote for options.
