If I remember correctly and you're not just bulls***ting us, the other one came against the Twinkies too. 1999, I remember, because it was like his 12th of the year and it was in August. Off of Rick Aguilera

Can you name an at bat bigger and better then that one in Frank's career? Because I sure as hell can't. And that wasn't for a pennant race? I don't know about that. That game put us 1.5 out instead of 3.5 out. In my book, that at-bat was for a pennant race. We are now 1 game back of the Twinkies, and we could be ahead of them by Sunday. How much sweeter can it get?

I very much agree with this statement. I'd much rather have 5 or 6 very good young OFers in the minors then having 1 or 2 if my team is in the race and needs to add an extra part or two. You could probably get teams on the bubble, like a KC, a Toronto, a Montreal, a Chicago(NL, of course), an Arizona, etc....to give in quicker because of the pure ability of these players. That can work to your advantage, because if a team, like for example, Toronto, has been giving you fits all year, and you are afraid you may have to play them in the postseason if they stay in it, dangling two very good prospcts in front of their noses might just get them to bite and give in. That's why I'd actually like to keep Webster instead of giving him up. But hey, whatever works, I guess.

LOL They played "just bad enough" to win.

What happens if we fail to make the playoffs yet?
witesoxfan replied to sox-r-us's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I hate to be a smartass....but no one has been a smartass yet on this thread. So here it goes What if we fail to make the playoffs? Well, then we fail to make the playoffs -
Right now, I don't want Tejada. Valentin is playing much better offensively, is left-handed(or should be at all times), and quite frankly, he plays better defense, whether you want to talk about range, arm strength, or hands(Valentin beats him in all 3 categories, IMHO). f*** Tejada. I don't want to get hosed by Beane again(I don't give a s*** who is running the program, Beane's gonna rape us either way), and I don't want anymore deals unless it is for a starter or a reliever. Simple as that.

Agree on everything....including Robby A and Jose. That is going to kick some serious ass. We are finally a good team up the middle. We can kick some ass now. Bad defense my ass

He wouldn't accept a trade to Chicago before, but now that we're in the middle of a pennant race, do you think there is a possibility?

Jim Rome blows. His act got old 4 years ago. But if you get interviewed by him, you will go on a tear. Also included in that list that Ugly put up could be AJ Pierzynski(he didn't get interviewed by him, but he did some little special thing for him). That night that it aired, AJ hit like 2 homers and drove in 7 RBI. How about he interviews the entire White Sox roster?

If we have to get rid of Rauch or Honel for Redman, then I say screw it. Trade Konerko for Ponson. Moves Wright to the pen, where I think he'll flourish, and adds another good starter for us while we dump a boatload of money. Some of that money may just go towards keeping some of these guys in town. Which ones though? Hmmmmm

One game at a time, yes. We (the team and us) have to be as excited about each win we get whether we are playing the Twins or Tigers. If not, we get complacent and way overconfident and take them for granted like we did earlier this year. That's exactly right. This team is just starting to play good baseball. I can't wait for the game to start nowadays. Last month at this time, I was dreading when the game started.
-
Agreed. I personally think we can play with the best of them. We just can't s*** in our pants when they come to town or when we go to their town.

I've heard it a few ways now. I had heard the 60-60 one, and I have heard you win 50 and you lose 50, it's what you do in the other 62 that matter, and now I've heard 42-42.
-
How about you just stop talking about stuff like this? People don't realize who is in 3rd, who is in 2nd, and who is in 1st here.
-
You know, after seeing the highlights, and actually watching the game, I don't know what's sweeter, listening to Hawkeroo be excited as he is"Waaaaaaay back. He looooks uuup. Yoooou caaaan puut itt on the booooooooooooard! YEEEEESSSSS!", or listening to Dick Bremer, the Twins play-by-play, say "And this one will end it" in a very quiet, heart-broken voice. And that happened right after Frank hit it. You then got to hear the roar of the crowd as it was leaving, and the huge ovation as it finally did land. Nothing is sweeter then that. Nothing. Literally nothing is cooler then walk-off homers, especially in a situation like that, where we came back like we did, thanks to Paully K, and then have Thomas hit a massive homer to win it. Not even a World Series is sweeter at the moment then that(because World Series wins don't sink in for a matter of weeks. It never did seem like the Angels were World Champions until about min-November).
-
Exactly. The same thing happens when you looks at hitter's numbers against pitchers who went from crappy starters to very good relievers. If you look at Thomas's and Maggs's career stats against LaTroy Hawkins, they have very good numbers. Most of those numbers came when LaTroy was starting. Now that he is relieving, he is much tougher.

I kind of thought that too. Someone on the White Sox apparently spit on his burger when they were younger.

And whether or not you guys want to believe me..... Yeah, I kind of had a feeling something like this would happen. Maybe it's just because I'm a big fan of the dramatics, but man, it was a great feeling seeing him hit that ball out. I saw the pitch, saw PK hit it, and I saw the ball go over, and I jumped up out of my chair, clapped like crazy, ran outside, told my dad and my brother PK had just tied it up, and came back in and watched the rest of the game. Yeah, this was a very good game, regardless of who woudl have won.

Would you like my address?

I have to ask...do you actually think that Lowell will be in a Marlin uniform at the end of the year?

I said it last night, and I'll say it again. You ride the hot bats. Right now, Carlos is not playing good baseball, or he is atleast not hitting the ball well. Aaron is. I can understand why you'd want to get Carl in the lineup, but in this case, I'd move Everett to LF and put Rowand in CF. You then have a very good bat coming off the bench, albeit a cold bat, late in the game if you need it. We have 11-13 guys who could make a very big contribution to the offense. We need to get them all regular playing time. You ride out the players who are hot and you have the ones who are not come off the bench late in the game. The hot ones get every game during the week, the guys who are hitting the ball, but not hot or cold, you give them a day or two off a week, and the ones who are cold you get them in a couple games a week and you get them some pinch-hitting, if possible. Right now, I'd have Daubach and Thomas at 1B and DH, I'd have Maggs in RF, Rowand in CF, Everett in LF, Alomar at 2B, Valentin at SS, Crede at 3B, and the two catchers catching. That leaves us with Lee, Konerko, Graffy, and Harris off the bench, and whoever else is not catching. As soon as someone cools off you put a guy in his place, and you continue to give guys everyday playing time. JM will be better at this, because he is the tinker master. This is just how I'd do it. We'd be getting the most out of our lineup. If Rowand and Harris are playing like s***....then yes, Everett gets CF. Right now, Aaron is actually hitting the ball very well.

I believe we drafted him as an OFer, and he will sign, just later on. We are allowing him to finish his baseball season, because it began like after school got out. I think negotiations will begin in like August or something like that. There was an article on it a little while back. You can try and find it....just look up Sweeney. It was a whitesox.com article.

Then again, that is the Cubs, that is Bobby Hill, and they are dumbasses. That just goes to show how incredibly overrated their farm system actually is. However, Hill wasn't a real toolsy guy, like Webster is/can be. He is smaller right now, but will grow into his body, and that will eventually give him some decent power. I don't ever expect him to hit 30+ homers, but 20-25, but he could steal bases as well as play great defense. Like I said, saying it will ruin my night is overstating it....but it could hurt in the long run. And Bobby Hill being a bust couldn't have happened to a better person. Talk about being an asshole....that's what you get by being represented by Borass. Karma is going to come back and get those of us who are bad. Karma's a b****, but it truly works.

And I'm supposed to care how much? We could have the next Rocco Baldelli on our hands here, only he'd probably be better. You wanna give that up for Carl Everett? I don't care if he does or doesn't pan out....it's too big a risk. I guess I better not let it ruin my night, but if it's true....
