  1. A change of scenery was needed. Foulke was unhappy here....unhappy with management(and for good reason).
  2. So is their no motivation, or are the KC royals actually a good team out to show the Sox and the Twins they can beat us We are playing s***ty baseball right now. Point blank. I find it sad that our security allows 4 fans to run onto the field in one game, yet this stadium is going to host the All-Star game.
  3. Flash has been clutch....not this year, but in years past. You have to be clutch to set the major league record with however many consecutive saves he had with the Red Sox.
  4. Well, I take his personality over some wife beating druggy (If he takes steroids, I don't count that as being a druggy, maybe I should). I also think he gets a lot more crap then he deserves when it comes to his personality. Agreed. And I don't think he uses the roids. I think he uses what he says he uses....creatine and amino acid supplements.....and a helluva lot of work in the weight room. I do think Sammy uses the juice....Bonds has had time to get big....he was a big guy in 2000....and he was a big guy a little before that. He wasn't small one year and huge the next....or small, then bigger, then huge, like Sosa.
  5. Yeah, well, I went to see the Sox play the Twins in the Metrodome twice that year. The first time....I saw MB make his first career start and get his first career win, and I got to see David Ortiz go about 7-7 against us. I also got to see Brook Fordyce hit a homer into the LF seats....the 2nd row of seats.....and it was slightly right of the 328 sign out there in LF(or however far it is). The next game, we lost 5-1....with Jose Valentin's homer being the 1. And then the next series I saw....Charles Johnson hit a homer(something about me going to the Metrodome and our catchers hitting homers....I bet if I go this year....Olivo or Alomar or Paul will go deep....hopefully, NOT Paul). Thomas went about 1-8 again...and it seems that David Ortiz went about 4-6 that series or something like that. I was also at the game that we clinched the division....I remember it because the score of the Indians game came up, and it said they lost....and I was sitting on the wrong side of the field( ), and I heard some cheering from the other side, and I looked up just in time to see that the Indians lost, and I looked over, and I saw our guys cheering. Man, that was killer. I then got to stay till the 10th, because of AJ Pierzynski's 2nd career homer that landed 464 feet away, and then Matt Lawton hit a walk-off dinger. The Twinks weren't doing much celebrating after that game...or not as much celebrating as us.
  6. Highly doubtful Maggs stays here. IMO....the Jones's in Atlanta are too far away to tell. Both have had great careers up to this point....but if one were to get injured or start to suck....he'd be done. You have to have a stellar career....because the baseball HoF is the hardest one to get into. Maddux came up as a Flubby fannie Todd Helton and Nomar have a long ways to go. Up to this point....Edgar Martinez is the greatest DH to ever play the game. He may not be the best DH in today's game....but at one time....no one was close....and he has DHed most of his career as well. Dennis Eckersley will go into the HoF as quite possibly the best closer ever. You won't see many other closers go in. Goose Gossage and Bruce Sutter could probably go as well. Lee Smith is a possibility as well. Rollie Fingers also went in as one of the best closers of all time. However...in today's game, I think the saves stat is overrated and inflated....more so than even homers. Too often guys go in the game in the 9th with a 3 run lead. That should NOT be a save. I could hold that lead. A save should be either an inning of work with the tying run either up or on base....and that is it. They hold could then be expanded to include coming into the game during the 9th inning and holding a 3 run lead, or going 3 innings and finishing the game....etc. However, if you blew a 3 run lead, making it a 2 run lead...and you then finished out the game...it would not be a save, but rather a hold. JMHO anyways.
  7. I miss Kenny. :fyou :finger kenny..........i like it the way it is......... Ya kow HSC.. Borchard

Borchard has 50 homer, 15-25 steal potential, with an incredible arm in the OF, and regardless of which position he plays, he'll have good range as well. And don't even bother with his average....when you hit that many homers....you could hit .220 for all I care. With that kind of power....you're going to walk.....and you're going to get on base. And he won't hit .220....I'm thinking more like .300 or so. Borchard's gonna be a stud. We waited with Crede....and he hit the f***ing cover off the ball. We wait with Borchard....and he'll hit the f***ing cover off the ball. We didn't pay this guy $5.3 mill to suck ass.
  9. Oh yeah, that's right.....you're Canadian!
  10. pena was one of the smartest catchers ever to play the game..olivo being compoared to pena is quite an honor for a rookie I mean Gammons' most intelligent comment comes pretty easily. its not often he even has one of those type of comments......... I think that's the only smart thing he's ever said. I also think he predicted the Cubs to win the NL Central. (holding in a laugh) (really struggling right now)
  11. Frank better start "put(ting) up monster numbers." Like you said, "it IS the third week of the season"..... how much longer are we gonna keep saying 'Wait till the bats get going?' That goes for Konerko, Lee, and Rowand too. IMO, if we can get out of April with a .500+ record....we got a very, very good shot at winning the division. Of course....the Minnesota series might wake our guys up. We are in that dead zone that we were in for much of last year too. They do know that Royce Clayton isn't in the clubhouse, right? I just think that this team is playing their worst baseball right now....and that it will only get better. We are lucky we have had our s***ty stretch during a time when we play like 18 straight games against Detroit, KC, and Cleveland. Only KC is a worthy opponent at this time....and I am thinking we will take atleast 2 of 3 from them this series. And if Manuel keeps hitting and running....that's even better. Have a few more SBs and a few more bunts and sac flies....and we are a better team. More small ball will make this team a bigger powerhouse.
  12. "..... if he weren't so old" or such an asshole..... I think that kind of depends. I'd take him based on his performance....and we'd still win, using the Frank Thomas/Barry Bonds effect. If they put up huge stats....you'll win. If not....it'll be a long year. He and Thomas are similar in that aspect....and that's pretty much where the similarites end.
  13. Bonds hit bomb number 5 in the 1st already tonight. This guy gets better the older he gets. That's the thing I like about him. Benito Santiago is like a career .240 hitter....and he busts out for a .280 16 80 year batting behind Bonds. Santiago is like 35 or 38....somewhere in there...and he's a catcher. That's pretty incredible....that'd be like Sandy hitting .300 15 70. If we got that out of Sandy....I'd s*** my pants. Bonds makes his team great...if he weren't so old, I would probably want him #1 overall. You could trade him to the DRays or Tigers....and they'd win 80 games.
  14. I'd take ARod before anyone, disregarding salary, and then I'd have to think long and hard about who I'd take between Bonds and Guerrero. In the end....I'd probably take Guerrero 2nd. This is non-pitchers, of course.
  15. didn't Mags go through the Rule 5 drafty maybe 5 times? No one (lucky for us!!!!) saw the potential. Mags was a late bloomer baseball wise and how good for us - but I do think there was a time when CLee was considered the better prospect. I do know Maggs went through the Rule 5 draft....just not sure he went through it 5 times. I remember reading it in an article about him a little earlier in the year.
  16. That's not saying much. I'm talking about in his prime....in his prime, Tony Pena was a .280 15 70 15 type of guy....with a good arm and a good glove behind the plate. I'm not talking about the 1990s version of Tony Pena.
  17. I'm kind of split right in between doub and cw Errors are not meaningless....but they are not that important, IMO. Range and arm stength are important on defense, unless you are a 1Bman. Then you only need good range and you need to be good with a glove. The perfect fielder is one who has good range, a strong arm, and a good glove....Ozzie Smith, Omar Vizquel, Ozzie Guillen(all names start with 'O')....etc. I haven't seen Jason Dellaero play....but I think he is the same way. But, if I had to choose between a guy who has good range and a strong arm and a guy who has a good glove and a strong arm....I'd choose the one with good range. For every ball they boot, the player with a good glove will let two get by.....atleast. That is why I like Jose Valentin in the field opposed to Royce Clayton....though Clayton doesn't have much of an arm either. Jose has range and a strong(but sometimes inaccurate) arm...but a terrible glove. He will still make 95% of the plays.
  18. We could most definately have the next Tony Pena....I think that is the most intelligent thing Peter Gammons has said in his lifetime.
  19. Yeah, prospect is the wrong word. I should have said player. I agree on all parts too.
  20. Right now...I'm taking Buehrle. If Prior proves he can do this for years to come(which I believe he will do), then I choose Prior. If Prior flops, then I guess I take Buehrle. However....I really don't see how Prior can flop. He's that good. Not many players are worth $15 mill a year. Assumng he can keep it all together....he is worth ATLEAST that....and most likely, more.
  21. His swing looks a lot like Robby Alomar's. If he became as good a hitter, as good a fielder, and as good a baserunner as Robby Alomar....soemthing tells me we got a helluva prospect on our hands.
  22. Good players put up good stats. Great players make the players around them better. I think I've summed up my argument.
  23. Frank hasn't been this determined in a long time....he'll get it eventually, and he'll put up monster numbers. I'm not worried....after all, it IS the third week of the season.
