  1. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 02:51 PM) If Coop thinks it's worth bidding big money for this guy, then I trust his judgment, and I doubt that Hahn/Reinsdorf are going to throw that kind of money at him without Coop's blessing. The Sox bring in all kinds of guys without Cooper's blessings. I recall when they brought in Putz or Crain or one of those relievers a few years back, they asked Cooper specifically what he saw in him, and, in more words, said "I like his arm. I hadn't seen him before they brought him back, but now that I've watched the tape, there are a few things I think I can work with."
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 12:23 PM) Wow, you think really, really highly of Axelrod. LOL, I thought it was dripping with enough sarcasm.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 12:15 PM) That's not really true. Hilton is easily the best receiver between the two teams, even better than Harvin, but the Colts have nothing after that, especially after Fleener disappeared. Their other receivers were LaVon Brazill, Da'Rick Rogers, and Griff Whalen. At the very least, Wilson has multiple pass catchers he can throw to.
  4. Yeah, I really like Beck, but there's no way I could put him 2. Which Mitchell?
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 11:49 AM) I was responding more to the dismissive "Overrated" comments several here have thrown at Wilson when his numbers have been quite good. Regarding that, I am in agreement and in fact think Wilson is quite underrated. There probably aren't 8 QBs in the NFL I take over Wilson right now and moving forward.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 11:35 AM) Well then I guess Wilson's 26 TDs are even more impressive than Luck's 23 this year, especially since he lost his #1 receiver all year and his #2 receiver for the 2nd half of the year. Wilson also has a great running back to help divert some of the attention away from him. The Seahawks' receiver depth is also better than the Colts, as Luck was throwing to f*** all after Wayne went down (and besides Hilton). I really, really like Russell Wilson, but if you are going to argue that Russell Wilson is better than Andrew Luck, you're barking up the wrong tree. There are going to be very, very few people who will agree with that.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 11:30 AM) At $140 million, I want the Sox to fail here. That is going to be a very regrettable contract for whoever signs him. I agree. Get the next one. I think it's obvious to everyone on the board that the Axelrod signing was an indication that the Sox weren't getting Tanaka. Move on to the second best pitcher on the market.
  8. As a 3 and then 4 year old, I was running into my house from the yard and, prior to getting to the steps up to the door, slipped on wet stone and smashed my face twice.
  9. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 08:00 AM) I love fishing, and absolutely despise ice fishing. I've already made plans for spring/summer trips, vacation time is in, and routes are planned. Winter sucks, and I can't wait for it to end. You and I can't be internet friends anymore.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 09:09 AM) He is one of the few pitchers who seems to be WAY worse as a reliever. That was way worse as a reliever when he prepared as a starting pitcher. If you put him in the mindset to work out of relief, then he can prepare his body to handle it. Ultimately, I think he is destined for Japan or Korea.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 08:56 AM) Fire whoever did it. I blame Kyle.
  12. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 09:03 AM) I think the Lions will always make the wrong move. That is why they have been to the playoffs once in the past 14 years. Last time the Lions one a playoff game was 1992! That's not good. The Chiefs have won a playoff game more recently.
  13. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 11:12 PM) Just announced. Our friendly, benevolent government at work. Let's give them more power. This post is why people dislike you on the website. The title is fine - it's this post. Rather than say something constructive and think out a post about why you think this is right or wrong or ridiculous or absurd, you are trolling to try to instigate a flame war IMMEDIATELY. I would say "Think before you post," but the problem is, you're smarter than that, and you DID think before you posted, and you still posted this. You can be controversial and have extremist libertarian beliefs if you wish, and you can post those and there will be no problem. Making posts like this, however, will do nothing to diminish your reputation as a troll and will actually get you kicked out of here faster. EDIT: And for the record, I could care less about SoCal, they can do what they want. I prefer local government and less of it.
  14. QUOTE (beautox @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 12:13 AM) Prospect Digest's list That is definitely the highest I've ever seen Montas.
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 04:37 PM) Tim Tebow??? Have you ever even seen Wilson play? He can throw the ball with the best of them. Re-read his comment.
  16. Forsythe costs nothing financially and can play 2B/3B/SS/LF/RF. Keppinger costs $4+ mill and can play 2B/3B/1B. You tell me which one you are going to inquire about.
  17. Honestly, I hope they use him as a reliever in AAA in hopes that he gains a couple MPH. The guy knows how to pitch, but when you are throwing 87-90 MPH fastballs without much movement, guys are going to hit you. His breaking pitches work ok and he changes speeds fairly well. If anything, it's a quality signing for Charlotte. Having seen a year of him in the majors, he is not going to make it as a starting pitcher. He's likely just Philip Humber reincarnated, but maybe, if the Sox are lucky, he turns into something useful again.
  18. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 08:12 AM) Dylan Axelrod is English for Masahiro Tanaka right? You are incredibly close. The English to Japanese translation actually comes close to "key my eyes out."
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 09:11 PM) Can we get a thread title change? No. What are we going to change it to? QUOTE (Real @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 10:07 PM) A hitter who plays an unathletic position 150+ games a year for 70m vs a pitcher who will get twice that IMO a poor comparison This reminds me of when we had to get buehrle to give us a discount for a contract almost half the length of the tanaka deal assuming its 20m/yr for 7 years I disagree entirely with this too. Fact of the matter is, they are still giving money to someone who has never played in the majors. How are Tanaka and Abreu any different in these circumstances? If anything, them giving that much money to a "non-athlete" signifies a GREATER likelihood that they'd give money to a pitcher.
  20. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 09:48 PM) Who has him having insane bat speed? Everything I've read has concern over his "slider-speed" bat speed, and good fastballs eating him up. I'll say .270/.350/.490 25-85 would be my own realistic expectation. Maybe insane is wrong, but it's not slider speed. Your browser does not support iframes.
  21. I'm guessing Ricky Bobby is Gavin Floyd (two first names), Josie Wales is Jesse Crain (similar sounding first name, similar in appearance), Optimus Prime is Dunn (due to size), George Foreman is Robin Ventura (due to fighting Nolan Ryan). This is tough.
  22. Found on Deadspin http://deadspin.com/white-sox-hotel-list-r...ames-1500530664 Some of these are awesome and it's really damn hard to figure out who is who.
  23. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 04:01 PM) That actually sounds pretty awesome. LOL at Abreu's baseball reference page. Yeah, I think I'm gonna go the non-pansy route and predict an .850 OPS in his first year. I agree. There's going to be a transition initially, but he has insane bat speed and plate coverage and he his swing path is wonderful. I am thinking .850-.900 OPS, 140-150 wRC+.
  24. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 03:43 PM) schtick like that makes me feel like i just wanna scream, flick someone off and storm off the field Quit acting like Jose Paniagua, I'm tired of it.
