QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 09:11 AM) Because that person has the ability to kill in a split second. He's a great example of what I think of when I think of a "responsible gun owner". He will call himself that. He will not call himself irresponsible, and the law as it stands right now agrees. You want to prove to me that there is such a thing? You should be cracking down on people like that. You want to know why I don't believe you when you say you're responsible? Because you're not cracking down on him. Why do you believe that Duke should not be allowed guns? Because he's crazy/eccentric/extreme? Is there a history of violence? Does he suffer from mental illness? Does he have a history of being irresponsible with his guns? If your answer is no, no, and no to those, then you can't say he is an irresponsible gun owner and he should not own a gun. Obviously there are other factors too, but those are the biggest ones.

Rob Brantly put up .273/.328/.384/.712 during his career in the minors. Frankly, I don't want the Sox adding any more young catchers unless it's an impact type talent. Neither Brantley nor Lobaton nor Jaso fit that description.

Hahn may have bigger plans for Eaton and Elmore

QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 15, 2013 -> 11:59 AM) Charlotte infield could get crowded. In no particular order, Garcia, Elmore, Sanchez, Seimen, Micah J, Rondon.......with Morel clogging up third. He might be gone. Only one of the above likely to make Sox opening day roster unless a trade comes up. Rondon? You're not talking about Clueluis, are you? I also doubt we'll see all 4 of Garcia, Elmore, Sanchez, and Semien at the minor league level. I don't think Morel is going to get in the way too much either, as they obviously have given up on him having not called him up during September. He might be out of options too, so he could just get outright claimed on waivers. -
Sox acquire Adam Eaton from ARZ, deal Santiago, Jacobs

QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 07:55 AM) Taylor, why would I have a vendetta against Hawkins? I don't, okay? I also do not have a vendetta against Dunn, whom I really can't stand as a ballplayer. When he comes up, I hope he hits one out. I just thought it was a lousy signing from day one. I never railed againt Hawkins personally. I even questioned once that he might have a physical problem, like eyesight. What I have railed against, if that is the right word, is his continued ranking as a Number 1 prospect. I think there are a whole bunch of guys who should be ranked ahead of him, starting with Abreu. The Sox minor league system does not have a ton of talent and Courtney Hawkins was by far the most talented prospect in the system. Just because guys do or do not put up big numbers all over does not make them any more or less qualified to be good, solid impact players at the MLB level. I'm guessing Hawkins will be ranked in the 3-5 range this coming season with Abreu #1 and Johnson #2 almost universally. -

QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 14, 2013 -> 05:30 PM) He is probably very limited in his raw talent, and he certainly is not going to hit for power, but his purported skill as a number 2 hole hitter is what has some of us intrigued. IF - and that's a big if - Elmore makes the roster, we better hope he is not starting. -
Enrique Rojas, you did good for Juan Uribe today.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 11:06 AM) I quietly hope and pray that Rick Porcello gets non-tendered, as he'd be a great candidate to pick up. Edinson Volquez is another that would be worth a flyer on about a non-guaranteed contract, and Shaun Marcum would be a solid pick up too on a minor league deal, so long as he proves he's healthy. In fact, I bet the Pirates will sign Edinson Volquez next year. I will bet 2 internet dollars on it QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 11:20 AM) Deal SHOULD HAVE BET MORE INTERNET DOLLARS

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 13, 2013 -> 04:41 PM) So I haven't listened to the interview, why is he cocky? Because he believes he will hit .300 and get on base at a .400 clip and he will go get any ball hit out to CF -

QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 13, 2013 -> 04:02 PM) And the problem there is you're trading an asset for a guy who might be a "non-tender cut". I would hope whoever they trade De Aza or Dayan for would have more of a role next year and for the future. If they want Ackley then it should be because they expect him to be better than Beckham and give him every opportunity to prove that. I agree completely. You need a prospect for De Aza. He's a good player. There's no reason to accept a busted prospect for him like Ackley when you can probably acquire Ackley for Deunte Heath or Andy Wilkins.

Official 2013-2014 NCAA Football Thread
witesoxfan replied to Kyyle23's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I actually had a friend who dealt with rape accusations in college. He met a drunk chick at a party and she went home with him (totally consentual), but she was incredibly drunk. So was he. They hooked up, she left, and she texted him the next day basically saying "did you have sex with me last night?" and he said "yes" and she said "You took advantage of me, I was way too drunk." Nothing ever arose from it, but moral of the story, he was a lot more cautious about picking chicks up when he went out partying. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 13, 2013 -> 02:04 PM) That's only because he should have had two interceptions against Dallas but their secondary has awful hands. I guess that depends. Is this saying that he puts balls on receivers hands better or is it merely using completion percentage? If it's just completion percentage, than those INTs wouldn't count against it anyways. If they're saying he hits receivers in stride in the hands, then he has Alshon to thank for that anyways because he has made some incredible catches the past few weeks. I also wonder where Brees would rank in such a list. He's such an incredible QB not because he hits receivers in the hands, but because his throws allow the receiver to get open. I don't think I've ever seen someone with such a good feel for the opposing defense. If they are lagging behind, he'll hit the guy in stride, but if they are right on him, he'll throw behind the receiver and get a completion that way.

The reasoning behind Frank getting in has everything to do with him not using PEDs though. He won't get in BECAUSE he didn't use PEDs - hundreds upon hundreds didn't use. He will get in because he was an insanely talented hitter who was also clean of all suspicion. That's the problem with a lot of these guys who may have been clean. They are absolutely invoking the character clause with this one. Yes, there are a few others who put up arguably more impressive numbers than Thomas did, but not only did he not use, he took a stand and did what he could to remove steroids and PEDs from teh game.

That says that Hahn either doesn't like Ackley or he values Viciedo more.

Here's what I'm seeing 2013 - UZR 1.0, 41st; DRS -3, >100th 2012 - UZR 3.8, 21st; DRS -6, even worse He's got pretty sure hands, but he does not have a ton of range, not as much as his reputation would make you think.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 05:23 PM) Doesn't De Aza only have two years of team control left? If so, you have move him now, because his value will only go down from here and he doesn't appear to be in Hahn's long-term plans. Also, since 2014 is apparently going to be a transitional year, we don't need to pay $4M for extra depth on the bench. I'd much rather give Viciedo 600+ PAs and see if we can turn him into a useful player/asset. Like I said, I don't foresee De Aza on the roster, and I'm sure they are aggressively trying to trade him. But if the value isn't there, you may as well keep him until it is there. Sometime in the next 8 months or so you'll get enough value that you'll be able to deal him.

White Sox pick Adrian Nieto in Rule 5 draft
witesoxfan replied to dayan024's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 13, 2013 -> 09:52 AM) au contraire (sp?). Unfortunately, he is very consistent. He had been a consistent .237 hitter through five, count 'em, five minor league seasons. Five minor league seasons in some places would constitute a career. And, in some places, he would be considered a prospect. He can also draw a walk, hit for power, steal a base, and flash some leather. Baseball is not all about batting average. (though I am glad you included the .198 average he had in his first go around in professional baseball as an incredibly raw player) -
QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 06:35 PM) Either way, its still chump change. One of the baseball guys tweeted that Wilsons agent said he doesn't just wanna be a motivational speaker, he wants to take BP and field ground balls...I'm sure like you said the Seahawks would have to approve it though. "Hi guys, my name is Russell Wilson, and I'm here to tell you that if you suck at baseball, give up and try playing football!"

QUOTE (floridafan @ Dec 13, 2013 -> 09:13 AM) Could be an adjustment to an off speed pitch...? Anyway, Talent is where it is at! Hoping for a much better year for my talented grinder, lol! I don't think Elmore is all that talented, not compared to other MLB players. Wish Eric the best, we're rooting for him. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 13, 2013 -> 09:09 AM) Brian Anderson and Beckham have/had their share of (over)confidence or cockiness as well. One of the reasons I never cared for Anderson. Definitely a fine line...and depends on whether he's on your team or the opponent's. Is that the reason you didn't care for Frank Thomas too? How about Pierzynski? Let him play. If he doesn't perform, then criticizing him is perfectly reasonable. Criticizing him for being cocky and confident is ridiculous. -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 13, 2013 -> 09:26 AM) So, forget everything we taught you in P90X and P90X2 -- we were wrong. Buy 3, we're right now. Until 4 comes out. Then 3 will be wrong and you should buy 4. P90X is a great workout -- but the versions are just becoming a scam at this point. You are better off buying or borrowing the program from someone else. Beachbody continued charging me for these stupid vitamins for the Insanity workout long after I'd bought the program. I received a call from their credit department saying that I had to pay it or I'd be sent to collections. I told them I hadn't even received a goddamn bill. I paid it and told them I'd never buy another product from them (and then received the bill 2 days later...apparently it's kosher to call people on those things 1 day after you send a bill out, because people typically get their bills 1 day after it's sent out).

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 13, 2013 -> 09:10 AM) I got blasted on the Cubs thread for saying he wasn't very good over a year ago, but the worst thing they can say when making a ridiculous trade proposal is no. If they have interest in your player, it's not going to suddenly go away. I'm sure every team asks for ridiculous returns for most of their players. If negotiation works it's way to the middle, you probably want to start out really high because the other side will probably start out really low. As ridiculous as the asking price, if they told you what the initial offer was, that was probably equally ridiculous. I generally agree, though there absolutely are instances where a team will ask for an absurd return and there is no longer any interest. Stroman and Sanchez is the beginning of a package for Chris Sale (I'd say David Price, but Rays wouldn't trade him within the division, at least I don't think they would), and theoretically, they wouldn't have to include a lot more. Chris Sale is twice the pitcher Samardzija is. Samardzija reminds me a bit of Javy Vazquez.
