  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 09:57 AM) B-Ham announces, though their actual roster page on MiLB.com is not updated. So no FULL roster to look at yet. One surprise, to me - Wilkins repeating AA. Not terribly surprising. The current regime obviously likes Lars Anderson, Seth Loman is there, plus there are a few others who can play 1B as well, and Wilkins struggled a bit in AA last year.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 09:42 AM) Today he gives up three, you heard it here first. De Aza, Dunn, Rios. You should find a betting parlor that will allow you to parlay that bet. Put $5 on it. If you lose, whatever, you had a good feeling those 3 were gonna go deep. If you win, you'll end up with like $500.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 09:33 AM) Kills discussion? There are like 60 posts in there for 3+ months of time, versus thousands in the rest of PHT during that time. It doesn't kill anything. Drama much? Actually, it was started on Opening Day. Still, considering the level of activity on the board, 20-30 posts a day in there really isn't that big of a deal.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 08:48 AM) 1. Bernstein is an asshole. 2. Alford is an asshole for attempting to cover up a sexual assault. 3. Bernstein advising new media guys that may or may not know of Alford's assholery past is not an asshole move. /end debate. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 08:55 AM) Pretty much. On this day, the 3rd of April, upon with Jenks and Strange have agreed, Hell hath frozen over
  5. I am finally watching this thing with volume for the first time, and let me tell you what, it is the absolute greatest video of all time. JUST WHEN YOU THINK THEY'RE A QUIET, DUMB BORING TEAM, THEY GO AND DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS....AND TOTALLY REDEEM THEMSELVES!
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 04:46 PM) NBA 2k13 is even better. As for your Madden comment, this still annoys me with how much worse it's been since. I can't play it. It has nothing to do with the fact that it's more "realistic." It's just not fun. Plus it's not like Madden '12 was unrealistic...coverage is pretty tight and, so long as you're playing at an appropriate difficulty setting, it's not ridiculously easy (although with my 94 OVR team in franchise, I still end up throwing for 70+ TDs with 3-4 guys over 1000 yards receiving and a running back with 1800 yards. When no one is below a 92 as a starter, it's hard not to.
  7. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 08:31 PM) Gimme a break. Big hands and u accidentally hit the key next to the one you meant to hit. I meant 87. Sweeps in Oct. like
  8. QUOTE (buckweaver @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 06:38 PM) It seems as though the two schools of thought are: 1. Rebuilding (current Cubs) 2. Studs to win (forever Yankees) But look at the World Series winners. When the Sox won in '05,they weren't the best team. Two St. Louis Cardinals teams? Two SF teams? Below are the match ups (and results) of the last 10 World Series. Look these over. Where do these teams fit in the above schools of thought. Seems to me that Williams/Hahn have it right...put out a team to compete from the get-go. With enough luck, add at deadline...without it/dump...but there's no need to do a full rebuild. And if you do...there's absolutely no guarantee it'll work out. World Series participants are lightning in a bottle (thank God, because I finally saw one happen here) 2012 San Francisco Giants Detroit Tigers 4-0 2011 St. Louis Cardinals Texas Rangers 4-3 2010 San Francisco Giants Texas Rangers 4-1 2009 New York Yankees Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 2008 Philadelphia Phillies Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 2007 Boston Red Sox Colorado Rockies 4-0 2006 St. Louis Cardinals Detroit Tigers 4-1 2005 Chicago White Sox Houston Astros 4-0 2004 Boston Red Sox St. Louis Cardinals 4-0 2003 Florida Marlins New York Yankees 4-2 Please post more...this post is full of awesome and rationale. It really is as simple as putting the best product on the field for game 1. If it fails, sell some pieces you won't need next year, get a look at some minor leaguers, and pick up where you left off in the offseason. This isn't saying buy and spend at all times, but it's not saying cut everything at once. Just put the best possible reasonable product on the field and alter your game plan according to that.
  9. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 08:24 PM) Wait, they're playing that at the park before all 82 home games? Ugh. Maybe I'll be late Fri 81 home games, unless you are saying they're winning the first Wild Card and losing. That would suck dick.
  10. Just as sort of a venting/b****ing/celebratory/random thread, what are certain things you hear or see that take you back to moments in White Sox history? Good or bad, we all have certain things that just send us through Deja Vu in a second which causes us to wander through these nostalgic moments. There are several I can think of, but that one that hit me today was this. and all I could think of was this bright, smiling rookie Gordon "The Slayer" Beckham
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 07:36 PM) Taj reinjured the knee that knocked him out for several weeks. I wonder if God knows when he'll be healthy too.
  12. Not a good start for Jake McGee either. Allowed 5 ER today after only allowing 12 ER to cross the plate all of last year. I love early season stuff like that.
  13. I still haven't either. I'm just getting through Fable II, but taking my sweet ass time doing so. It's not my fault that Bethesda makes ridiculously awesome games, that Madden 12 was one of the best football games of all time, and that NBA 2k12 is a sports fan's methamphetamine.
  14. I could see them going with DJ. I mean, when was the last time they didn't have a former player/executive in the booth? Caray isn't it?
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 03:52 PM) There's a reason you have this title at Flapship. B. Patrick Simon: Flapship Stats Guru http://flapship.com/the-contributors/ Now, I just need to get you to write more. Not sure if you saw this yesterday, but baseball is back. And so is I
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 03:45 PM) Comcast/nbc/hulu are all owned by the same company. Yes, Sheinhardt Wig Company
  17. Just because I'm acting on impulse and he's had a great opening day, I am going to say that Matt Wieters is a darkhorse MVP candidate this year
  18. Also on s***ty QBs, Bills signed Kevin Kolb, 2 years, $13 million. That was also a bad trade.
  19. QUOTE (southsidepride15 @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 02:38 PM) Hahahaha, I meant never again show the video. I quoted the exploding head because that's how I felt as well. In my 60 years of baseball I've never seen anything that bad....you gotta be bleepin me!! Ha, well the Jackie Chan is a little cleaner anyways.
  20. 2012 - Late and Close - 53.2 QBR, 27-45 passing, 312 yards, 0 TD, 3 INT, 1 FumL 2012 - 1st quarter - 67.1 QBR 58-103 passing, 767 yards, 1 TD, 4 INT Sorta backing up what I remember - when the defense was trying, and the score was pretty close, Palmer was pretty terrible. A lot of his numbers came in garbage time, not that it's all his fault.
  21. Changed it for ya, although my mind was literally blown like that
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) That pick in 2012 turned out to be #17, the Bengals drafted CB Dre Kirkpatrick with it. He appears to have missed most of the season. Eh, lots of guys don't play their first year (for any number of reasons) and then come back and end up being solid. Can't judge that yet. For Bears 1st round offensive lineman, they miss their first year due to injury and then forget how to play football.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 01:48 PM) From his wiki "the Bengals received Oakland's first-round pick in the 2012 draft and a conditional second-round pick in the 2013 draft, which would have become a first-round pick had the Raiders reached the AFC Championship game in 2011." So a '12 1st, '13 2nd, and '13 7th for a year and a half of Carson Palmer, a '13 6th, and a conditional '14 7th (assuming Palmer makes 13 starts for Arizona)
