FEASABLE waiver bats
Chris Young 09 - $1.75 mill 10 - $3.25 mill 11 - $5 mill 12 - $7 mill 13 - $8.5 mill 14 - $11 mill club option, $1.5 mill buyout There's no way he'd clear waivers. If he were to hypothetically go on waivers, the Pirates would claim him and they could just deal him in the offseason for prospects with that contract. It's arguably a better value than Alex Rios's deal.

How can an actual MLB manager continue to justify playing time for Mar
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 10:04 AM) Maybe at this rate Mark will be so embarrassed of his putrid play that he decides to retire early and give the team a chance at playing someone worthy of his ABs. Kotsay to DL with broken heart.

BAD but HILARIOUS jokes
A duck walks into a bar. He asks the bartender, "You got any gum?" The bartender says, "No, get out of here." The duck comes back the next day and asks the bartender, "You got any gum?" The bartender says, No, and if you come back tomorrow and ask, I'm going to nail your feet to the ground." So the duck comes in again the next day and asks, "Do you have any nails?" The bartender says, "No." So the duck asks, "You got any gum?"

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 05:32 PM) True. But man. Ellsbury, Cameron, Pedroia, Martinez, Beckett, Buchholz and now Youk are either currently on or spent a considerable amount of time on the DL. I actually think they might be the best team in baseball with a healthy roster. I think the Yankees are better (or atleast have a more talented lineup), but I didn't realize how bad their bullpen has been. Mo has been the only reliever worth a s***.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:16 AM) true, but the Twins still offer a pretty good lineup without him Because they play in the East, I sometimes forget about the Rays and how good of a team that is. They can run, field, hit, slug, and the starting pitchers are outstanding. I hope they get their stadium situation taken care of. They are playing awesome baseball, took over 1st place, playing a decent team in the Twins, and only 17,000+ people show up to the game last night My dad was talking about how good they looked. He said that Pavano actually looked really good Monday night and that the Rays were just hitting really good pitches. It's amazing how far that team has come in 4 years. I don't think that there is any question that the Rays and Yankees are the two best teams in baseball, and quite frankly, Boston might be the 3rd best team in baseball when they're healthy.

Chris Sale Promoted to Majors
The 25-man roster is currently at 24 on the Sox website, as Torres has been demoted again. Sale will be on the roster at some point today.

White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 08:38 PM) I just hate having such a righty dominant lineup against righties with tough sliders. It would be nice to have a left handed bat that actually puts fear into opposing pitchers (other than Juan Pierre, of course).

Carlos Delgado
QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 06:41 PM) If I remember correctly, he's turned down a trade to the Sox in the past. KW always gets his player eventually. I don't recall exactly when it was, but I do recall that the Sox were well out of the playoff picture when he turned the trade down. I'm pretty sure it was late in 2004 after the wheels had fallen completely off the bus.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) Yep Manny only wants to come to the White Sox and if he falls through NL waivers- the Sox can pretty much claim him for nothing. And they apparently are not willing to do that, considering the Sox wanted the Dodgers to cover most of his remaining salary. If Manny clears waivers, and the Sox do inquire, the Dodgers will have to pick up some of the tab.

What do we have in Viciedo?
Guerrero has walked 50 or more times in 10 seasons and 60 or more 5 times, and walked 42 times as a 23 year old. He didn't walk at all in his first call up in '96 in which he had 27 plate appearances. Vlad knew how to take a walk, and it's something Viciedo will have to learn how to do too.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
All I could think about when Pierre hit that homer was Omar Epps in Major League 2.

What do we have in Viciedo?
QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 07:53 AM) You don't walk off the island. They are trained to swing. And frankly, people are over valuing walks for a guy that has such a large hitting zone. Why should he take a walk when he can smack ball four for a double? Because he can also ground ball four to the SS and probability suggests that he will do that more often than hitting a double. He's a good hitter though.

White Sox Opening Day Lineups (Sporcle)
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 11:52 AM) Dweezy? Cabrera? Those two actually helped contribute to two pretty significant events in recent White Sox history. The one very bad memory's only lasting accomplishment is a photo.

8/2 Games
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 11:14 AM) Any time this subject comes up, it is always interesting to look at the numbers for Magglio at a similar age. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/O/m...o-ordonez.shtml Ordonez and Gilmore are similar in that they were both in high A at the age of 21. That's about where the similarities end. Ordonez hit for a bit of power (38 XBH, 12 HR), showed a decent propensity to walk (7.7%), didn't strike out a ton (13.3%), and was unlucky overall (.255 BABIP). Gilmore hasn't hit for a ton of power (27 XBH, 4 HR), has not walked as much (5.2%), has struck out slightly less (13%), and has been very lucky overall (.379 BABIP). Gilmore is going to have to hit for more power to ever really be taken seriously as a prospect. Hopefully he can show some in the next month or so.

White Sox Opening Day Lineups (Sporcle)
QUOTE (DonkeyKongerko @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) Had a brain cramp trying to remember Chris Getz's last name. Some names on this list bring back alot of good memories One in particular brings back very bad, bad memories.

2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 11:20 AM) Oh yeah, they're completely done. Interesting that Terry Boers' guy said that Zambrano will be released this offseason if they can't trade him while eating all of his salary. Boers also said that Carlos Silva is a terrible human being that no one in the clubhouse can stand. Hmm, that's odd. I wonder what makes him so revolting.

Official 2010-11 NFL Thread
At this point, I don't think the Vikings would care if he told them he was skipping training camp, they just want to know if he will play or not.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 09:05 PM) Yes, Rays take game 1 defeating the 'Stache...Mauer DNP. Here's hoping for a Rays sweep Hopefully he shaves that stupid thing off. Also, my baby is cooler than your baby, so there.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:29 PM) Anyone else nervous that the Big Deal Kenny is trying to make revolves around Danks or some one? That would be awful.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
apparently couldn't get Myers and Berkman. Gotta hope they can get Dunn at this point. With Hudson and Holmberg, you figure they could have gotten LaRoche kicked in pretty easily too. Whatever.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) Isnt he on the DL with another phantom hamstring injury? Yeah, active to July 16th with a calf strain. He should be eligible to come off the DL soon. I figured I'd just throw a name out there that I seem to recall Williams being connected to in the past.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
Since Jason brought up Ethier, and since we're all speculating at this point anyways, I figured I'd throw the name Manny Ramirez out there too.

White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) How the hell is he not starting in the majors yet? Why would the Blue Jays or the A's trade him? I just don't get it. Seems like the White Sox could have acquired him for next to nothing. The A's traded him because they got an arguably more talented prospect in Michael Taylor. The Blue Jays wanted him because they've coveted him for a while. They realize that they have a logjam at 1B, and that they can get a very talented outfielder in Gose (who, it is entirely possible, they've coveted for quite some time too, though why they didn't just get him in the Halladay trade I don't know). The Astros realize that, if and when they are able to move Berkman, they have a spot for Wallace on the MLB roster. It does make some sense.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) fine with me, Berkman will likely come cheaper prospect wise but a little more expensive in $$... would that signal the end for PK next year? Again though, that could be KW leaking that to send a message to the Nats. That's still not a big deal to the Nationals. The Astros aren't going to receive compensatory picks for Berkman (because offering him arbitration when his contract runs out would be financially insane), and the Nationals have to receive value greater than that of 2 compensatory picks (in their eyes), and if they keep Dunn, it does give them an inside track at resigning him.

Phillies to get Oswalt for 3 players
QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 01:22 PM) So, who else is on your formerly secret mancrush team? QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 01:26 PM) Don't know if there are a lot of others. Oswalt and Halladay have the same first names, obviously, and are by coincidence my favorite righthanded pitchers and have been for years. I always thought Oswalt would be with Houston for most of his career but figured Halladay would leave Toronto at some point, and I always thought it'd be cool if they pitched together. You know you'd want Chipper Jones. And Gavin Floyd too
