Interestingly, Minn. Star Tribune still favors us

QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) Mark's career is on track to be a lot like David Cone's (minus the multiple championships). So it'll be interesting to see how the HOF voters treat Conie. I believe Nostradamus has spoken. So it is. (I do pray about one more every now and then)

Interestingly, Minn. Star Tribune still favors us
witesoxfan replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So basically what they are saying is that August is a big month, and that September is a big month...for not only the White Sox... but also the Twins and Tigers! Or you are all saying that. Or you aren't saying that, but you want to say that. ... ... ok then -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 04:20 PM) I doubt Kenny would think twice about sending a few prospects to a division rival if it meant landing Cliff Lee and his fiscally accommodating contract ($9M team option for next year). I definitely think Shapiro would be more hesitant to make such a deal (assuming he sees his club at a competitor next year). so, my scenario still holds true. I still win.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 05:50 PM) Haren is an elite pitcher. Floyd is not. Haren gives us a much better chance to win a game than Floyd does. If Floyd is the only guy on our 25 man roster we'd be giving up (with the exception of Pena and Wise,) I'd pull the trigger. It's a better deal than going after Halladay You hate Floyd, I love Floyd - I still agree with this. Haren gives you a chance to win every game, except for the occasional blow up, and he's more than likely going to put you in a position to win every game. Floyd blows up more than that, puts you into a position to win a game about as much, and gives you a chance to win the other half. Going from Haren to Floyd in the rotation would be a monstrosity of an upgrade, and would be well worth it. That said, I'll snort a pixie stick, video tape it, and post it on here if it happens (and that's only if it includes Gavin). The Sox have no need to scout Haren. I would say if they are trying to acquire Haren, Poreda and Richard are quite obviously involved, and they would also be looking to acquire Doug Davis as well, even if he'd get his s*** lit up in the AL.

new rumor Cliff Lee to Rays, Morrow and Clement to Cle
witesoxfan replied to prochisox's topic in The Diamond Club
Seriously, why would Tampa make that trade? Trade a guy that has struggled mainly with his command this year, along with one of their best prospects for Cliff Lee. I just can't believe an organization like Tampa Bay would have given up on someone that quickly. He's been injured and struggled with his command. S***, he was one misplaced fastball away from losing to a perfect game 1-0. I do not believe the trade rumors surrounding Kazmir until I hear some type of legitimate, under contact talent going back to Tampa Bay as well. Crazy thing is that I compared Floyd to Kazmir this year. Who's laughing now? -
That's why the DBacks gave up 6 prospects to get him. He just may be a top 3 pitcher in the major leagues, and to acquire him would pretty much take out your future core. That's why the DBacks traded for him - they felt they had their future set - and then signed him to a very affordable extension. It burnt out on them. Their GM has said they are not looking to deal him without a similar package as to what they gave up. That would mean goodbye to Flowers, Danks, Hudson, Viciedo, Carter, and Upchurch, and that's just me figuring out names without including Alexei or Beckham, two players I imagine the Sox won't trade. I'd make the deal without a second thought, but I'm not apart of the White Sox organization. per Rotoworld, of course So would you rather have Victor Martinez in the division, or have Michael Bowden in it? I know you locals want him away from the Indians, I just know it. would suck with Granderson and Bowden in the division. Next thing you know, Jeff Jordan'll get signed by the Twins (get it, lol, his dad, lol)

Don't listen to enough rap, but Tupac has always been there, even though he's been dead for damn near 12 years. His final verse in 'Changes,' regardless of the lyrics (there is no crime I had to do, but I never did grow up in the streets of Baltimore or especially Oakland (I believe Oakland, though I do not recall exactly, and Wiki is not helping right now). I've always felt that verse meant a lot, even if I haven't always exactly understood what it meant). (I have always felt that Tupac was still alive and he was hoping for his great reincarnation into the world, but I've slowly grown off that..) The one song as it is - that somehow left me still hoping he was alive, but knew he was gone, and that he knew he was gone soon... Jesus, I had not actually heard that version in probably 5 or more years. Just as great as it ever was. I guess you hear what you want, but I hear a great uplifting message in that song, just telling you to live life to its fullest, and that heaven itself exists on earth. Just such an uplifting song, even for me when I first had it and listened to it in South Dakota, and again listened to it in North Dakota. /drunk NSFW version

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) Cowley says there are rumblings around the clubhouse about Cliff Lee possibly coming here. But he doesn't think that will happen due to the divisional rivary aspect. He did say there might be something about the Dan Haren rumor. Mentioned that Gavin Floyd will likely be the centerpiece to a package sent there. Very interesting if KW is going after Haren. I wonder if this deal would be to accomodate Freddy so he could get his #34 back! Yeah, so Cowley is just blowing smoke out his ass. Williams and company have never made a big trade within the division, and the only team they've ever traded with is Kansas City. There is no way that they'd want to ship prospects that they could end up playing 18 times a year, and there is no way that Cleveland wants to face Lee 6 times before he becomes a free agent.

Holliday is going to be worth 2 picks in the offseason too, so you know Beane was taking that into consideration.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) Why should Thome be completely to blame for the guys behind him? With our bad 3rd base coach the only hit he will score on behind him is a Konerko home run. Walk > not making an out. It's as simple as that. A guy can have a big average but make more outs than a guy like Thome. If Dye is going to be our #3 and Carlos ever finds his stick back, I think you'll see Thome get some more RBI's with a proper lineup shuffle. Pods Ramirez Dye Quentin Thome Konerko AJ Beckham 2B Looks pretty good to me. Agreed, though I believe you have to go into next year with Beckham as your 2Bman.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 03:52 AM) I am very leery of trading any position players (even prospects) for starting pitchers. Crazy things happen way too often, if we want to trade young pitching for established pitching I'm all for it... but not willing to sell the farm on position guys we could need in the coming seasons all for a very risky (and expensive) player. Viciedo still has that potential to complete a very solid young IF and Flowers could end up being a very valuable 20 HR/.350 OBP catcher for us when AJ is finished playing. Not too keen on making a big deal this year, I feel really good with where the team is at right now with Pods and Beckham emerging the way they have. I am actually in full agreement with this. I don't think they'll stay quiet though. I could very seriously see the Sox adding a 3Bman, moving Beckham to 2B for the rest of the season (and perhaps for the next 2 and a half years or more), and then maybe a smaller addition or two too, like perhaps a reliever and some more bench help. I think they'll be active, but they won't be going after Halladay or anything of the ilk.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 03:12 AM) Im not bringing this place down, its a reality that we suck there. it's true, but they got 1 there last time and made a 4-run comeback. If Minnesota is still struggling and the Sox have a good series against Detroit, I could see this being a time where they can take 2 of 3 there.

QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 03:21 AM) Yeah Buchholz is defiantly a very interesting piece to consider, i know hes had some well documented off the field issues in his past but still, he is the definition of a live arm and potential ace. I would want something coming back from Bostons end in addition to Buchholz for alexei; something along the lines of the braves giving us gilmore and also we would need to go get someone like teahen immediately to cover 3B. I think Alexei could easily finish the season at his career OPS and possibly push .800 if he can begin to showcase his power. for july hes put up this line .333/.373/.451 .824 out of the #2 .305/.363/.463 .826 over his last seven days .250/.292/.400 .692 hmm 09 10 Mark Mark John John Gavin Gavin Jose Clay Clay Clayton/Hudson it sure would make things interesting going forward. yeah, and then the Sox would fall out of the race pretty quickly. Who's going to play 3B for the rest of the season, Josh Fields? Wilson Betemit?
-
QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 12:56 AM) they will cheer up as we head there next week. Even on a day (technically the day after, whatever) of a perfect game, you are still trying to bring the place down. It might not matter anyways, the Sox could potentially get swept and still be in first place by like 2 games heading out of there anyways.

QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 01:08 AM) i think he needs to add a gold glove to his already impressive laundry list of accomplishments. he is great in the field, maybe today will get him enough publicity to get it this year And he should get it. He's one of the best fielding pitchers in all of baseball.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 07:27 PM) Good story, Mr. Costanza. Also the above came from yahoo.com. Amazing how he's blossomed. You would think all 38th round type pitching prospects would copy Mark's style. Work fast. He's a pleasure to watch pitch even the rare days he doesn't have it. I would actually discourage working faster for young pitchers. They'll tend to rush their delivery a bit and they won't be consistent with their release point.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 10:46 PM) He needs to start throwing more strikes. If he keeps getting behind hitters he’s going to get hit around, if anything he was very lucky tonight. Ultimately, I liked some of what I saw in Torres, but wasn’t wowed or overly impressed, but he battles and got results, that’s all that matters. His fastball looked straight as an arrow. He was pretty much keeping it down all game, outside of the Burrell homer (I think Gross went down to get his). If he does that, he'll be relatively successful.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 06:23 PM) For next year we should sign Holliday for RF, stick Dye at DH. Then we have Getz, AJ and Pods still as lefties That's maybe 20 homers from your left handed hitters, and it's possibly not even that. That's not a left-handed presence in the lineup at all.

I don't know how anybody can hate the Twins. I can't stand the s***heads when both teams are in contention, but they play fantastic baseball, build their team from within, and have remained competitive more than any other team with a similar payroll than any other team in baseball. Most of the Twins fans I know are either idiots when it comes to baseball or talk way too much s*** than is warranted (and all I do is bring up World Series wins within the past 5, 10, and 15 years, playoff series wins this decade, divisional titles within the past 4 seasons, and game 163...they usually spout off something ridiculous, and I laugh them off), but the Twins themselves run one of the most respected organizations in all of baseball right now.
