  1. Seriously, trading for Haren becomes a snowball of moves that later affects what the Sox have to do. If you want Haren, without giving up Beckham, it's probably something along the lines of Poreda, Richard, Allen, Flowers, Hudson, and Shelby. That'd be absolutely senseless. There will be other starters available for less, and I'm not even considering Bedard because I do not think he is the type of pitcher Williams would look into. He won't cost merely Richard either, so whoever brought that thought up can lay it to rest.
  2. Why not see what Clayton is made of? Ozzie isn't going to abuse him (I doubt he throws more than 90 pitches), and if his sinking stuff works, you have a better feel of what he is made of. Even if he struggles, this is the type of start that lets Richard figure out how to deal with big innings. He'll probably have a big, perhaps huge inning in there where the opposing team scores 6. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't though either.
  3. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9749600/Source:-D-backs- "almost" leaves a small possibility, but you are probably going to have to match the package the DBacks gave to the A's. That would be against the Sox best interest, even knowing how good Haren is.
  4. dont you be stealing my hamburg...err, chicken sandwi...err, dont be stealing those!
  5. Couldn't believe this when I heard it. There was almost an entire year when he didn't practice and just played the games, and the Titans when 11-5 or something along those lines. That alone made a person feel like he was Superman. guess he's not Rest in Peace.
  6. All these potential moves are assuming Quentin makes it through his rehab assignment healthy. That's not a given.
  7. Albert Pujols is so good that he is even leading the Cardinals in stolen bases.
  8. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 03:45 AM) Those 40 years would be hell. At some point he had to realize that he was going to get caught, just waiting for that day he knew was coming was probably not fun. Imagine waking up every day wondering if that would be the day you would be caught red-handed for one of the worst crimes of the decade. That would be your conscience talking. If you have no conscience, and you live that lifestyle, you will live in euphoria until the day you get caught.
  9. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) Damn that man...I knew I should have sat on Baldwin's lap. Fried chicken kills you too
  10. If they are doing the whole November thing again, we won't know till then. The pros have been making great strides in recent years though, so sooner, rather than later, you are going to see a pro win. Considering the amateur-to-pro ratio is like 30:1 (or techincally more, considering that a lot of "pro" players are really amateur players), the odds say no, but that's just how good some of these guys are. I hope Mouth wins a big one soon, he's played so damn well in that tourney over the past 4-5 years.
  11. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 12:38 AM) Beckham did really well in the top of the order in AA. I also say don't change what ain't broke. But maybe he will be a good top of the order batter with time. Beckham is going to be a good hitter no matter where you put him in the lineup.
  12. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 12:36 AM) Laimbeer new coach in Det. The first former WNBA coach to coach in the NBA?
  13. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) Ummm, Alex Sanchez is on the list. I think Jay Gibbons (suspended,) Brent Abnernathy, Dan Smith (?,) Terry Adams (way old,) and Jose Lima (was out of the league until the Royals picked him up midseason) meet those specs. If a guy tested positive for steroids, it'd be pretty easy to make up some list and put him on there. And, just looking at Adams 2003 season, it'd be pretty easy to just say "yeah, he had a good season amongst a myriad of mediocre seasons, let's throw him on too." Further, this list is put into order from East to West, AL to NL. Why is Brent Abernathy listed among the Royals when he was on the Devil Rays to begin the season? And, in one singular point that really shouldn't but does for me, I'd say Jose Lima's name discredits this entire list. You had to be in a major league camp to test, and he was not.
  14. QUOTE (onedude @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 11:41 PM) Pujols with 2 more homeruns today. .332 30hr 77rbi 59r 9sb. DeRosa so far isn't making a difference, they do need another bat, because Pujols can't make the team win all by himself. DeRosa has played 2 games. It's hard to make any kind of difference in two games.
  15. I have a feeling this thread is going to blow up. I also see this team making the playoffs. The major league roster has good depth up and down, the middle of the lineup is good, the rotation is, as far as I'm concerned, as good as any in the AL Central, the bullpen has been outstanding, and Quentin may come back. And I think if the opportunity arises, Williams will trade for either a 2Bman or 3Bman, manning Beckham at the other spot. I could easily see the Sox 5 games over .500 at the break, and possibly more. The hardest series is going to be in Minnesota, right before the break.
  16. FWIW, Arizona said they aren't dealing Haren unless they are absolutely blown away.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 03:43 PM) I remember that day as well. I was en route to a softball game in DeKalb and it came on the radio and I s*** myself. Freddy was a really big deal then. I also vividly remember where I was the day we dealt away B-Mac (Walgreens in f***ing Rockford, ugh) and the day we traded for Thome (leaving a Blockbuster). ha, get it, Blockbuster, and it was a blockbuster trade. I love myself. Gavin Floyd still rocks my bod.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 01:13 AM) Man, baseball is a weird sport. We just bash Cliff Lee a year after he just mowed everybody down. How can any team in baseball give a pitcher a big contract? You just never know with most pitchers from year to year (except Buehrle of course). you generally know from year to year. Cliff Lee's ERA entering the night was 2.92.
  19. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 12:24 AM) I am wondering if he can keep learning and his OBP will soar. This is a ridiculous comparison question but does he have the natural hitting ability of say a Pujols but with less power or are their swings/body motions different? Or is he more of an A-Rod type swinger with less power? I'd settle for Dustin Pedroia
  20. damn, not a lot of love for a team that's 4 games out of first place at the end of June
  21. since when is 3b a tougher position defensively? Yeah you have to deal with screaming line drives, but major league players should be able to handle those. 2B involves ranging quite a bit to both your left and right, which I think takes a bit more athletic ability
  22. I think Sheets will wind up with the Rangers once he gets healthy, but I wouldn't go anywhere near that. I also strongly doubt Williams will go near Peavy again. It's been about a month since that all went down, and Peavy's been injured since, so there's probably little interest in that unless the asking price has come significantly down.
  23. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 24, 2009 -> 03:03 AM) Prezz 1 if you would poke this. 1111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 1111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 1 11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 1111111111111111111 hey mr. f***youman...suck MY dick eddie murphy raw is still one of the greatest stand up comedy sketches of all time. His impressions are good, but he's just hilarious. Wish he'd go back to that. And oh yeah, Gavin Floyd rocks that p**** like the s***s amazing. Cuz it is. And he's going to keep doing it too. Cuz he's Gavin motherf***ing Floyd motherf***ers. Don't forget that s***
  24. QUOTE (joeynach @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) Does making a weekday series including one afternoon game on a thursday all Premium priced games have anything to do with it. You bet your ass it does. Nice move by the sox, especially in a week economy to price fans away from coming to typical low attended weekday games to begin with. I do love that sig too.
  25. When he was first called up, I mentioned that he shouldn't be counted on to save the season. Well, he still shouldn't, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if he was a huge part in saving it.
