I have my baseball-boner on. If there is any list that does not include Mauer, you lose. Every good GM builds with two factors in mind...up the middle, and pitching. That said... C - Mauer (McCann) (Wieters) 2B - Utley (Kinsler) SS - Hanley CF - Granderson (Sizemore) (Maybin???) 1B/3B/DH - Pujols Santana Lincecum Haren Felix Joba - CL (Papelbon) --Sabathia nearly made it on. He wont make it 3 more years I don't think Joba sticks in the rotation, simply because he's too damn good out of the bullpen. I'm wrong, BTW, but I like it.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 02:23 AM) He's a joy to watch. I just hope he's clean. The power surge has come outta nowhere. Joe Mauer is clean. I'd bet my reputation, heart, and soul on that. He's just that good of a hitter. Other than Juan Rincon, I honestly can't think of another Twins player that has been busted for PED abuse. I'm sure I'm wrong, so bust me right now. Mauer won't stick at catcher his entire career (I hope not), because some franchise (hopefully Minnesota, probably someone else) would like to prolong his career somewhere. I still think Joe Mauer has a very, very long career waiting for him at 3B. If so, I don't think it's entirely unreasonably that Joe Mauer could reach 3000 hits, and perhaps even go to 3500 hits. I have not watched baseball very closely until about the past 3 years, but I have never seen a better hitter, other than maybe Pujols (who walks to much to get to 3500, and perhaps 3000 period). Mauer is an absolute monster. If the proposal came up, to trade all of the Sox minor leagues for Joe Mauer, yes, I would trade all of it for Joe Mauer.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 02:56 AM) Can't forget about Tampa. And the Red Sox have become a prospect factory the last 3-4 years. I just hope in time that we can catch up to some of these teams. If the Sox can get anywhere near Boston in regards to prospect development, not only will the fanbase have a boner, but KW will as well. --stated in that order for a reason.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 02:43 AM) Everytime I drive by that place, there's some jackass out in front pretending to play guitar and dancing around. Oddly enough, while seeing that guy infuriates me, I get a craving for pizza. You will probably be walking into an office building some day, see a guy playing guitar on the street, and get a craving for pizza. Just letting you know.

To be completely fair, Mike Cameron would have looked pretty damn good in CF over the past 10-13 years. I'm glad the Sox got Paulie, and he helped the Sox win a Series (which Cameron still has never done), but Cameron has been a much more valuable player over his entire career.

Are you going to be better than Jerry Owens? /knows answer already

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) He's hitting .235 with 10 HR and 26 RBI this year. That's better than what the Sox are getting from at least 4 positions. 2B, SS, 3B, CF If Mike Jacobs can play those, he can play on my team. I like my 1Bman putting up OPS's better than .758 though.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 11:06 AM) I have a question... If Quentin didn't break his hand last year, would people still think he's injury prone? That actually has no effect on why I fear future injuries on him. Being injured 2-3 separate times this season with injuries in the same area but never really the same injury are why I think he's a bit injury prone. That and his shoulder issues in Arizona.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 02:22 AM) So did Dye in his younger years. Jacobs can get his obp up if he plays more. Just so you are aware, Mike Jacobs is 28. By the age of 28, Jermaine Dye had hit 110 homers and had put up a career line of .285/ .341/.481/.823. He also played a very good RF with a cannon for an arm. Mike Jacobs is a 1Bman, who can not hit left handed pitching, and has a career OPS of .809 (.792 outside of the first 30 he played with the Mets). He also strikes out much more frequently than Jermaine Dye. If anything, Jacobs is a glorified platoon player. The comparison is, quite frankly, absurd. BR has him compared most favorably to Josh Phelps. I would say that it's a very valid comparison, with Jacobs having more value simply because he hits from the left side and thus, sees more favorable matchups. He'll have a career for a while in the majors, but more in the Daryle Ward role and less in the Tino Martinez or Jim Thome role.

Gavin, this type of start is why you are my homeboy. I say he ends up with better numbers than Danks this season, except maybe K/9.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 05:33 PM) I would. If they need a DH, they'd be more likely to move Paulie to that spot (everyone in the organization loves him), or give a one- or two-year deal to Thome because they want a left-handed bat. Plus, Dye is the only one of the three without a severely-restricting NTC, so he'd be the only one that they'd be able to deal. I love me some JD, but he's most likely the odd man out. Dye actually becomes a 10/5 player after this season, so he is the most likely impacting candidate on the MLB roster to be traded this season. And Konerko essentially does not have a NTC, as he has said in the past that he would waive it if the Sox felt the move was for the best of the organization (and they wouldn't move him to hurt the franchise). QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 12:13 AM) Crawford has a 2010 option, so there's a good chance he remains in Tampa unless they feel 10 million is too much to spend on him and that Desmond Jennings is ready and/or they feel they need to make room for other players. However, I doubt they'll let him go, and even if they do, with the season he's been having, he's gonna price himself out of our range... plus, we already drafted Mitchell who's suppossed to become our Carl Crawford. With that being said though, I'd love to get Crawford on a 3 year deal to man LF until Mitchell is hopefully ready. Also, Figgins seems like a lock to be signed by us next year. If I had to predict our lineup for next year, I'd say it'd look something like: 1. Figgins, 3B 2. Ramirez, SS 3. Quentin, RF/LF 4. Thome, DH (brought back on a cheap deal... if we suck, he can put fans in seats when he hopefully approaches 600) 5. Konerko, 1B 6. Pierzynski, C (we could see Flowers at some point) 7. FA/Someone via trade, RF/LF 8. Beckham, 2B 9. Danks, CF If you believe you can depend on Quentin to actually play in the field - I do believe that you have to give it atleast one more season worth of trying, and beyond that, he can become the full-time DH, and if he can't stay healthy beyond that, then he may not stay healthy at all - then Figgins becomes the LFer and the Sox would use Viciedo, Fields, or a stopgap (be it Beckham with Getz at 2B, or a 1 year free agent). The Sox have had absolutely no qualms with putting less than optimal offensive players at offensive positions. I still think Brian Anderson is a wild card. I will not drop that until he is with another organization.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 02:13 AM) whoa whoa whoa... I never said bench Alexei or anything and there's no reason not to let him play for the rest of the year... All I'm saying is if he doesn't show some real good improvement by the end of the year, I'm wondering if it might be wisest putting Beckham at SS, and at the very least, Alexei could be a very solid utility guy. That is pretty telling right there.

TCQ update: If Sox Out of Contention, Shut-Down...Maybe
witesoxfan replied to Jimbo's Drinker's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Plantar fasciitis was not good to Shannon Stewart's career. He was 32 when he got it, played a full season with Oakland at 33, played part of last year with Toronto, and he hasn't played a game in the majors this season. He was quite a bit older and not nearly as talented as Quentin, but it's worth noting. Quentin needs to heal completely from this before you try and rush him out there right now. -

QUOTE (Sox1422 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 07:29 AM) It's not just for kicks. It's because they are both better than the guys I want them to come up for. The MLB White Sox would be a better team minus Wise and Fields plus Danks and Viciedo. Viciedo is hitting like .240. Settle down. And I think 80% of this board knows that the team is better with Wise out of the starting lineup and preferably off the MLB team. You don't have to call up Danks to get rid of Wise.
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 07:32 AM) Sorry, but your boyfriend sucks at hitting. so does Dewayne Wise, and Scott Podsednik couldn't field a basketball if it was hit to him. Anderson deserves more playing time than he's gotten since Wise has been called back up. Wise isn't good enough for me to classify him as a AAAA hitter.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 07:29 AM) He had plenty of playing time for an entire season in 2006. I didn't know what Jagermeister was in 2006. Does that being to describe, relatively speaking, how long ago that was?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 01:10 AM) Can we please stop with this tired ass excuse? Brian Anderson is a terrible f***ing hitter. That's the end of it. He's turned out to be a bust of a first round draft pick. One of many we've had this decade. Time to except that reality and stop blaming Ozzie. "OH MY GOD! IF BRIAN JUST GOT MORE AT BATS HE'D BE SO MUCH BETTER!" There's a reason you've got 4th outfielders and utility infielders. That's because those guys aren't good enough to play everyday. Which is fine. Problem is there isn't one aspect of offense that Brian is good at. He can't hit LH pitching. He can't hit breaking balls. He's got a career BB/KK ratio of 55/184. So there goes pitch recognition and plate discipline. He's got decent speed. But you can't put that to use when you're never on base. His only value to this team is as a backup OF/pinch runner. And don't give me the "change of scenery crap." How's that worked for Felix Pie? You either have the talent or you don't. And Brian doesn't have it. He was actually hitting in the .260-.280 range when he was actually getting everyday playing time. Unless you just want to ignore that.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) Any team that wins their division can be classified as a contender, I guess. But even the most optimistic Sox fan knew that team was so not built for October. Only because Quentin was out. If Quentin is in that lineup, I still think there is a chance. The fact that they remained competitive in all 4 games in the playoffs makes me happier.

How did Nate McLouth end up in Atlanta and not here?
witesoxfan replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (VAfan @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 08:20 PM) But that isn't close to a comparable package. It's WAY more than Atlanta gave up. They didn't surrender any lefties who can throw 98 mph. A comparable package, in my mind, would be what we got from the Yankees for Nick Swisher. Or maybe slightly more now that people realize Betemit isn't worth much. No it's not. Poreda has struggled with his control, and as far as I'm aware, hasn't done much but flash very good secondary pitches. He may be a step above Morton and Locke, he may not. I would rate Hernandez quite a bit higher Shelby, and I don't think it's far-fetched to believe that Locke is along the same lines as Hudson as a prospect. In the end, it all evens out. Soxtalk would have blown up giving up that much for, quite frankly, an .850 OPS CFer with bad defense. s***, Brian Anderson could be that next year, or Jordan Danks could be that come 2011. -
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 11:44 AM) Gordon needs to be playing 2nd base where any offense he creates is considerred a bonus. At 3B he's a liability in the purest sense of the word. Gordon Beckham's OPS right now, after 10 at bats, is 0. That's a liability if it's in the pitcher's spot in the NL. quite frankly, offense is considered a bonus wherever you can get it in this lineup. I'd take it if he was playing rover and the Sox could field 10 guys. He needs to hit, first and foremost. It's only 10 at bats...I'm the guy that has been giving Gavin Floyd all the support, even though his ERA was damn near 8 at one point after a substantial number of starts - I realize it's a long season. I want some f***ing offense, no matter what position. If he puts up a .750 OPS at 3B, it's an offensive plus for the White Sox lineup. What you are essentially talking about is VORP. I could give a s*** about VORP, and I love the statistic; this lineup needs offense wherever it can find offense, and if thats with Beckham at 3B, I love it; at 2B, I love it; in Charlotte, I love it. Need more?
