QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 03:04 AM) Wow,the debate continues as to why a few rednecks out in the sticks booed Obama? Who gives a rat's ass. /filibuster'd I actually voted for McCain because I believed his conservative economic policy would pull us out of this recession much smoother and cleaner than Obama's would. But yes, I am a redneck. /spitsout dip of Grizzly I normally try and stay out of politics on this board - partly because there are a number of posters that I feel portray how I feel better than I do - but mainly because I come to this board for White Sox, White Sox minor leagues, and then happenings from the rest of baseball, sports, and all the general happenings therefore. I consider this a baseball forum, and I feel it should be treated as such. When politics get involved into a discussion like this, I feel it is an insult to the White Sox major league club. Be f***ing HAPPY that the President of the United States, and arguably the most important man in the world, wore a White Sox coat onto the mound when he threw out the first pitch at the All-Star Game. For f***'s sake, it's as simple as that. Anything more, take it to the f***ing Filibuster. That's what the forum is there for. /thread

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 08:56 PM) Koufax/Drysdale, Spahn/Sain, Maddux/Glavine, Johnson/Schilling, Buehrle/Halladay . . . oh yeah that sounds about right. Pair the formidable Roy Halladay with a reliable, mid-3 ERA lefty and you have one of if not the greatest starting pitching duo in baseball history. win

Torres sounds a bit like Felix Diaz. I always liked Diaz and thought he might make it as a reliever some day. -
Thome's homer is pretty awesome for me simply because I knew it was coming and then it came.

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 02:24 AM) Yes, you're right, but you can bet if they trade for him, they're signing him to an extension. The best rotation in the game in a five or seven game series - likely another WS championship. Trade whoever it takes. The only two things you can do to put yourself in the best position to win a championship is get to the playoffs and have your team set up to win in the playoffs. I'd say the best team in the playoffs is one with atleast 2 very good starting pitchers, 2 capable starting pitchers, a balanced lineup, and, most importantly, a very good bullpen. If acquiring Halladay costs Beckham or Alexei, I'm not sure how balanced the lineup is at that point, and it doesn't guarantee a championship. Beyond that, you also have to consider the possibility of winning it all in the future too. Which sets you up better for the long-run and gives you the best chance at sustained championship contention, Alexei/Beckham/Floyd, or Halladay? If you could get Halladay for giving up minor leaguers, I think the Sox would be all over it, but I'm not sure that's the case right now.

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) What if you get a World Series title in the next three seasons? Would that make it worth it? You won't have Halladay for 3 years. You have him for 2. And that is and always has been a loaded question.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 12:32 PM) Nolan Ryan is the most overrated pitcher in the history of baseball. There I said it. I actually said it about 2 months ago -
QUOTE (T R U @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 07:26 AM) So this badass boxer gets strangled by a 23 year old woman? He had to be drugged or hit in the head with something very hard, or else this wouldn't make any sense. Im not a boxer, but no woman is killing me with her bare hands.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) I honestly can't remember when the Sox have been truly burned by trading away one of their minor leaguers. Young has been a bust pretty much with Arizona minus his rookie year. Reed never hit well enough in the majors and Olivo struggled for awhile. I think those were the biggest prospects we traded until Sweeney, Gio and De Los Santos. Neither of them have burned us so far even though we traded Swish a year later. One thing the Sox do extremely well is evaluating their own minor league talent; they know who should be traded to maximize their value and who should be kept. I actually think they are the best organization in self-evaluating. I only wish they could evaluate draft talent as well they evaluate their own. at the same time, when has a prospect come up with the Sox themselves during that same time period and produced great results? -
Perhaps at the word of Trey Hillman too, trying to preserve his young arm.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 09:12 PM) Hmmmmm. Then I guess I'll retract my plan. I'd still like to have Halliday and Rolen, though. Beckham needs to be moved to his future home of 2B ASAP. Rolen's bat and glove would help the Sox and again adding Halliday without giving up Buehrle, Danks or Floyd makes the Sox very dangerous in the playoffs. Halladay and Rolen would cost probably 5 prospects, and neither would be around past 2010. Losing something along the lines of Richard, Poreda, Flowers, Jordan Danks, and Hudson for one half year (Rolen) and a one and a half year (Halladay) rental is not something that looks good. It's also not KW's M.O. If he trades for someone good, he's either not going to give up a lot (Colon), he's going to look for a player with time left on the arbitration clock (Pena) or he's going to look to resign the player (Garcia). And they are all going to be relatively young too. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 08:30 PM) An ERA+ of 112 is not that great... You're 12% better than league average. Woohoo! Not hall of fame worthy. Twins Hall of Fame dude. They don't exactly have a storied franchise like the Yankees. And 12% better than the entire league for a total of 12 seasons and 377 starts is pretty f***ing impressive. And, considering all of them were with the Twins, it has to make him a bit more deserving to be in the Twins Hall of Fame. (p.s. Nolan Ryan's career ERA+ is 111.) -
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) Even if he accomplishes that, I'm not sure he'd be an elite prospect or even worth the $10M paid. as a 21 year old in AA, that's a pretty solid year, especially if he's hitting the ball in the gaps and he develops a better eye at the plate. I basically view 20 homers in AA as 30+ home power at the majors.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 11:41 PM) I have a feeling we're going to hate that place even more before the end of the season. I'm going to love it more and more each passing day, simply because there will be no more baseball games held there in the future.

That "average" ERA of 4.22 in his career was also good an ERA+ of 112. That's above average. Just saying.
