  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 22, 2009 -> 06:55 AM) Maybe he knew what he was doing? Runs scored/runs allowed differential 27. San Diego Padres -44 28. Chicago White Sox -47 29. Baltimore Orioles -51 Washington Nationals -51 One thing is for certain, Ozzie Guillen will win the Pythagorean Manager of the Year award this season... Petco and Adrian Gonzalez are the only reason San Diego is so "high" on that list. Gavin Floyd and an underachieving or even disappointing offense so far are why the Sox are so low. That's a misleading statistic because it's f***ing May.
  2. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:38 PM) Or 5 or 6 in the case of the Sox. Damn that quote still makes me look so damn good all the time, and I couldn't have been further off. I LOVE it
  3. I'm actually rooting for Peavy to shutdown the Cubs, for the Sox to win convincingly, and for that to leading towards a bridge being rebuilt. I don't think this has been visited for the last time.
  4. So the dog had surgery to repair ligament damage in his knee today...he tore his ACL for sure, and there was some calcification that had occurred at the end of one of the ligaments. I've understood that this a Labrador degenerative condition, so that almost certainly confirms that he has some Lab in him (you can quite clearly tell he is mostly Border Collie, but I always thought he was much to broad to be just that). Anyways, it's just a terrible sight to see. You can tell he is just agonizing in pain.
  5. f it. Hope for Gavin to turn it around, stay within 4-6 until July, try and work something out, and maybe he changes his tune. Or maybe the Sox sign/trade someone else.
  6. well, that makes this day a little more boring
  7. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) Well, people were too busy creaming themselves to make a picture. It would be sexier than wite's Bonds in the White Sox jersey pic. There is nothing sexier than that picture.
  8. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:19 AM) My only hope for this to work, is that Jake just woke up to a call from someone repping the sox, and he was still under that morning cloud and he just gives up and says ok thats cool. I actually had that same exact thought go through my head at one point. Wakes up to a phone call after a heavy night of drinking, hears them ask if he wants to get traded to Chicago, and he just says "sure" and passes out again.
  9. QUOTE (lord chas @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) according to espn and SI
  10. The White Sox outfield is thin as it is, I don't see how the Sox could even afford to trade Dye right now.
  11. QUOTE (POPPY_HIDALGO @ May 21, 2009 -> 07:45 AM) The guy has had arm trouble and is owed a s*** ton of money and is having a really bad year. Pitching in a launching pad like the cell as opposed to the giannt crater that is Pet Co would make his numbers even worse. The guy would be smacked around in the AL. They aren't getting 06 Peavy. Horrible move if they make it. I wish my really bad year consisted of a 3.82 ERA while leading the NL in strikeouts.
  12. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:50 AM) Would you wanna play in a hitting park, with a crazy manager and a underachieving team? We know he'd love to go to the Cubs
  13. QUOTE (scotty22hotty @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:24 AM) 1 - I wonder how Kennys package could be better than what the Cubs offered... 2 - If he accepts the Sox would have the best 1-2 in the central 3 - Man I still wish Kenny kept Vazquez as a #4. 1 - The Cubs minor league system is garbage. The Sox have legitimate prospects at this point, and have the pitching prospect. 2 - Most likely, though KC is up there with Greinke-nameyourpitcher 3 - The Sox would not even be able to think of trading for Peavy had they not traded Vazquez.
  14. QUOTE (IamPabloOzuna @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:15 AM) http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/200...te-sox-may-be-/ San Diego Union-Tribune has picked up the story. Apparently Peavy met with Bud Black late last night to discuss a trade. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Well, it's atleast a rumor with legs now
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ May 19, 2009 -> 08:21 PM) Greg Maddux was better than Pedro in the early-mid 90s I don't think so. Pedro Martinez had a 7 year span from 1997 to 2003 where his average season was 16-5 record, 2.20 ERA, 201 IP, 251 K, 45 BB, and 144 H. That's good for a 0.94 WHIP, 11.3 K/9, 2 BB/9, 5.6 K/BB, 6.4 H/9, and, the most telling statistic of all, a 213 ERA+...over 7 years. Greg Maddux had an ERA+ of 200 twice, and both were very good - probably the 2nd and 3rd best seasons of all time, behind Pedro's 2000 - but Pedro did that over 7 years. And he was out for half of 2001. And, though I find it generally meaningless, it's still fun to look at...his W-L over that time was 118-36 and his winning percentage was .766. That's ridiculous to even think about.
  16. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:30 PM) Orlando is an incredibly fun team to watch. I can't think of anything more symbolic than James going for that final loose ball while all the other Cavs stood around and watched. this was from a couple years ago. You see all 5 Pistons, and only LeBron.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:54 PM) Yeah, his mechanics screamed future problems. Either way, I'm glad he's probably just going to be at best an above average pitcher from this point on. I'm perfectly content with it.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:15 PM) I'm not gonna lie. As a Sox fan, I think it's wonderful that he's fallen off so much. But as a pure baseball fan, it is 'kinda' sad that it looks like injuries are going to rob him of a potential HOF career. He was better than Santana for a long stretch in 2006. Eh, Hall of Fame stuff, but even my untrained eye could tell that his arm was going to fall off eventually.
  19. I think 2004 proved that Williams is not afraid to add a pitcher with some type of long term deal, even if it is a somewhat substantial amount of money, even in a rebuilding year. The Sox sent 3 prospects (if you will...Reed was really the only prospect at that point in time) for Freddy Garcia and then signed him to an extension, and then the Sox traded for Contreras too, and even though the Yankees took on some of the burden of the contract, the Sox were still on the books for quite a bit of it (I believe around 75%, which equated out to anywhere from $6-8 mill a year). I'm not going to get worked up until he actually happens, just throwing it out there.
  20. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ May 20, 2009 -> 05:51 AM) I would like to think that Dye would be more attractive than Konerko for the Mets in a sense where Dye would be a free agent after this seasons (pending the BO option), so when Delgado returns- he could play some OF as well. Not to mention they wouldn't be in a situation next year of having both Delgado and Konerko under contract. Fernando Martinez is the guy i want from New York. I would sweetn up the pot by offering Dye, Getz and Dotel. These 3 guys would immediatley make New York a contender and the Mets would get their new 2B. The Castillo experiement is going to end sooner or later. If thats not enough for New York throw in another piece. For the Sox, they would have their CF of the future and it would make room for future phenom Gordon Beckham to come on up and play 2B.. . . KW needs to explore all avenues to try and aqcuire Fernando Martinez. You don't trade 3 players for 1 prospect, and you certainly don't look to deal Getz at the current moment. What you are suggesting is merely an XBox trade.
  21. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 19, 2009 -> 10:04 PM) FINALLY!!!!! Hopefully we see a lot more of Nix and Betemit in the upcoming weeks. Lets sacrifice some D with Betemit at 3B, and have Nix play 2B. Also, I wouldn't mind putting Dye in the 5 spot. Right now, a lineup of the following gives us the best chance to win, IMO: 1. Podsednik, CF 2. Nix, 2B 3. Thome, DH 4. Konerko, 1B 5. Dye, RF 6. Quentin, LF 7. Betemit, 3B 8. Pierzynski, C 9. Ramirez, SS None-the-less, it was refreshing to see a win, even if it was just 1 win. There is absolutely no way I'm taking either Anderson out of the lineup or Quentin out of the 3 hole on a regular basis. I don't know why you would.
  22. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 19, 2009 -> 06:30 PM) I say the official point to see if we are contenders or pretenders in June 15. If we are still sucking by then, blow it up. If we start to look good, keep in tact and go for the division crown. However, as others have said in the past, the worst thing the ball club can do right now is hang around somewhere in the middle where they're bad, but not bad enough to give up hope. For some reason, I thought JD had a NTC tied into his contract. That was his last contract. Worth mentioning is that JD becomes a 10/5 player next season, if his option is picked up. QUOTE (beck72 @ May 20, 2009 -> 05:02 AM) Konerko wouldn't waive his no trade clause to go to the Mets. Anyway, too early to blow it all up. Konerko has said he would waive his NTC if the team wanted it. I'd say that pretty much means that his NTC is meaningless.
  23. the offense is slowly coming around. The biggest key for the season, as far as I'm concerned, is Floyd getting his s*** together. If Contreras and Colon fail, they'll be able to patch together a 4 and 5 down the line. If Floyd doesn't start pitching better, you are replacing a 3.84 ERA with a godknowswhat ERA this year.
  24. XBox crashed on me. so I went and picked up a few SNES games. For the first time in my life, I played a Metroid game. Those are pretty fun eh.
  25. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ May 16, 2009 -> 02:23 PM) You don't need much now a days to get something decent in return. Example, the Cubs traded a bag o' crap to Oakland for Rich Harden last year. In my opinion Milwaukee still has the best chance of knocking them off if the Brew Crew can pick up some pitching (Peavy) at the deadline. Not sold on the Cardinals or Reds even though the Reds might be a year away from being a contender with their young pitching. The Brewers gave up arguably the top offensive prospect in baseball for 3 months of CC Sabathia. The Cubs got Harden for decent, but not overwhelming prospects, because he started 45 games between 2005 and 2008 with Oakland (he started 12 more games with the Cubs). That's 11 starts a year. Beane was just looking to get some kind of value for him before he got hurt again.
