  1. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 07:51 AM) I guess I could live with Washburn or Backe, but who knows how possible it is to get either of them. Personally I would have no problem giving Poreda a shot at the rotation. I agree completely with you
  2. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 12:14 AM) oh goody, they are unstoppable at home. what's that make the Sox then? Sox - 39-18 at home Twins - 39-21 at home
  3. this thread reminds me of a scene in The Big Lebowski. "Is that not what makes an American? Strong Patriotism, good Christian belief, and the ability to enjoy a game of football?" "That and being from America."
  4. QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 11:59 PM) For all I know you are completely correct... but I hate how everyone just completely writes him off. I do agree. I just don't know how consistent he is with his stuff; he's obviously been doing something wrong in Charlotte or they're working on him with other pitches, but that remains to be seen. As a guy who is going to pretty much just eat garbage innings, he's fine. I think what remains to be seen in all of this is the organization's future plans with Horacio. They could just leave him in the bullpen for a while and end up dealing Logan, but it's hard to deal him with his value as low as it is right now. They could also have him build his endurance back up and end up having him be the 5th starter next season or KW and company could also be looking at other alternatives (I think they'll do this regardless of their plans with Horacio anyways). It would be nice if Linebrink got healthy quickly though.
  5. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 10:49 AM) Well if he starts and sucks than he's only bad once a week, instead of 3 times as a RP. Whenever Broadway enters a game, the Sox will be up or down by 4+ runs. If Broadway starts a game, the game is tied. Consider that and then repeat your statement to yourself and see if you agree with it. Broadway is up to pitch garbage innings; if he turns into a good pitcher well then hallef***inglujah. I don't think it'll happen, but you never know. Right now, he's a mopup pitcher. QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) Has anyone ever thought that maybe Broadway's bad numbers in the 2nd half are due to the org. wanting him to work on something? I know what I saw last year in Broadway, and I saw a pretty good pitcher. He wasn't getting lucky like some other junk ballers, he actually has very solid stuff. I think people are extremely underrating him. It's also quite possible that he was absolutely filthy that night and his stuff still looked good. You cannot judge a pitcher based off of one performance, and tons of people are doing that. He looked good that outing, I agree completely. That doesn't mean he'll look good in his next one, and it's likely that he's going to suck, seeing as how he's been absolutely terrible over the past month.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 09:39 PM) would certainly have to be the "make or break" piece of the trading puzzle...? Actually, I hadn't even considered the fact that the M's have the #1 waiver priority, so it wouldn't be make or break. If they had the #2 priority, any young player the Sox put on waivers would get scooped up instantly.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 09:04 PM) Which means Beckham better be signed this week! suit him up and trot him out there in the 8th
  8. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 07:19 PM) We need pitching and better defense not more poweer hitters, or even outfielders period. But, I would not want to give up minor league talent for a washed up veteran pitcher, who we wouldn't keep past 2008. That means our farm system is where we need to turn to and see if we actually have any minor league talent able to help that's the problem, there really is no real talent in the minors right now
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 09:35 PM) Who's God II & III? Frank Thomas and Carlos Quentin? I'm gonna go with Michael Jordan and Bo Jackson, but really it's anybody who you feel it is.
  10. I also want to say that Greinke is a dirty son of a b**** and that I hope someone throws a baseball back at him, just so he can see what it's like trying to dodge a bullet. I have no problem with throwing at players, but it's a "privilege" more than it is a right. You do it when the time calls for it - and there are times for it - but it's not any time a player hits a homer and stares a little or because some dude hit Miguel Olivo and got tossed because of it. I love the pure aggression behind the thought process, but he needs to limit it; in the meantime, I would be OK with him hitting Pronk and having (cow/syringe)-wrestling Hafner coming at him.
  11. QUOTE (Shadows @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 08:31 PM) Which is funny considering how deceivingly crappy he seems this season, yet all his numbers are right there. even during his struggles, he was still a better than league average player. People just hate on Jim because God IV was traded to get him.
  12. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) A couple of years ago, I kept telling myself in the future to party hard and drink my ass off with BA, and smoke out with Freddy. Love those dudes. he be stealing my ideas
  13. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 04:33 PM) I spent the weekend with a few Red Sox fans, a few of them are actually knowledgeable to the game. While they agreed that Quentin deserves it, there's no way he wins it. Hamilton is a lock in everyone's eyes, even if they know he doesn't deserve it. It's what I've been saying for about a month. Well then the voting process needs to be reviewed; quite bluntly, they'd be voting for Hamilton because he did heroin.
  14. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 08:51 AM) wite will keep us posted if anything happens on that situation. I could see it happening if the M's like Shelby enough and if the Sox view him as a replaceable piece within the organization. The Sox would include more, but Shelby would almost certainly have to be the piece that made or broke the trade (on an unrelated note, made or broke isn't nearly as cool as make or break).
  15. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) Didn't see this anywhere: I actually agree completely, both with Buehrle and the writer's comments. Sometimes having a bit of nerves is a good thing and sometimes it blows up in your face. If you are nervous, you work a bit harder at times and you get a bit of an adrenaline rush; other times, you s*** your pants or you blow your load early. I haven't seen anything from the numbers that would indicate that Gavin is a softie, like Javy apparently is (though he still has a spot in any rotation of mine). If anything, Gavin has been just as good in big games as he has in any other games and he's helped end losing streaks. Gavin is my fav.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 05:03 PM) Livian's line in his first Rockies start against the hard hitting Padres: 2.2 IP, 7 H, 9 ER, 4 BB, 1 K His NL ERA stands at 30.38 right now... the Sox really should have considered looking at this guy
  17. "Say everybody, have you seen my balls? They're big and salty and brown. If you ever need a quick pick-me-up Just stick my balls in your mouth. Oooh, suck on my chocolate, salty balls. (Put 'em in your mouth!) Put 'em in your mouth and suck 'em and suck 'em... " one of the greatest and most inspirational songs of all time...RIP
  18. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 05:49 PM) Funny. The Ritchie trade turned into something pretty non-earth shattering. Wells, Fogg and Lowe all ended up sucking in the end. When the most you give up are guys that are 5th starters in the NL, you did pretty damn well for a completely terrible deal.
  19. QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 07:37 PM) Due to the fact now that Contreras will likely not be back for a while, and we only have 4 starters set in stone for next season, I think the possibility of us going and signing a pitcher have increased by a lot. And the most likely candidate I see us going after is Garland. the White Sox won't sign a pitcher to a 5 year deal and that's what Garland will command.
  20. I was one of those who wanted Yabatu as I thought he had a chance to be a fantastic reliever for a year like Shingo or perhaps that he could become a pretty damn decent reliever too. I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) Kip Wells was just designed for assignment by the Rockies....FWIW. He had been pitching in relief for them this year, last time he started was last season (26 of them) with the Cardinals. and he put up a 5.70 ERA in the NL. He's at 5.27 this year, and his WHIP is in the 1.60s for the past two years combined. Kip Wells can rot on some team's AAA team because he hasn't been relevant in 5 years.
  22. I would say that, as sad as it is, track stars are generally sought after because managers love guys who have the potential to hit .300 and get on at a .360 clip, even if said potential is, quite honestly, non-existent. I'd have a hard time seeing Owens clear waivers and what's worse is that his value is next to nothing. If there were any player I would consider never putting on waivers it's Owens.
