  1. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 07:16 PM) That was Thome's 12th go-ahead HR on the season BTW. unclutch
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) When I saw Danks last year, he was throwing 88-91 and wasn't missing many bats. I guess time will tell who he ends up being more like...Perkins has to have something going for him, I think he still has an ERA right at or just below 4. Liriano's not Liriano anymore. I don't think he will ever be able to throw that devastating slider that was the second most effective pitch in baseball to Mariano Rivera's cutter when he was in his prime. When I saw Danks last year, I saw a really raw pitcher who had good stuff, but I didn't have the confidence that he could become a very good pitcher; I saw Jeriome Robertson in him. Glad I was wrong. When I see Perkins, I see mini-Buehrle; allows a lot of hits, has relatively good control, doesn't strike many guys out, but knows how to pitch and to get guys out. I see it in his stuff too. Also, while Liriano's slider was good, it had nothing on a Pedro Martinez changeup. Pedro would destroy anybody with that pitch.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 01:26 PM) I know Danks wasn't really known as a power pitcher last year...although he's raised his velocity this year a bit. Danks I guess is most similar to Perkins, who came off an injury/DL appearance in the last couple of seasons and hasn't been consistently pitching 175-200 IP (or close) over the last 3 seasons. Baker and Slowey are very solid, and the Maddux comparisons are starting to become more relevant for Slowey with each start. If there's a concern, it's with Blackburn/Perkins and then Liriano, because you never know what will happen to that elbow. He's going for 15 in a row today. never in my wildest dreams would I ever compare Perkins and Danks. Not even last year. Perkins has a pretty solid fastball and that's about it. He gets by with location and junk. Danks is a power pitcher, and while I feared what would become of him this year, he has proven me wrong and is a fantastic pitcher. A very good fastball, changeup, curve, and cutter...I'd say that Danks is more comparable to Liriano than he is Perkins (whereas Buehrle is more comparable to Perkins than he is Liriano).
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 04:03 PM) 2 down and I hope Francisco Rodriguez's arm literally falls off. dammit, it stayed on Angels win, Span got tossed after the game ended because the final strike was a ball but KRod got the call anyways. And then he did his dance. I still hope his arm falls off.
  5. 2 down and I hope Francisco Rodriguez's arm literally falls off.
  6. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) that is the nastiest stuff i have ever seen in baseball - period. When he would follow up a 97mph fastball on the outside corner with a 69mph curve? forget about it. EDIT: for what it's worth, i think Joe Nathan is far and away the best reliever in baseball today, regardless of Krod's totals. Agreed, although Mo Rivera has to get consideration, even into his older days. He's possibly been the best closer in the majors this year.
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) Him and Geovany Soto have the same "doctor". Let's put it that way. That's about the only thing I can think of.
  8. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) Exactly right. Nobody talks about it, but the amphetamine/"greenie" ban is probably the main reason home teams are winning so often these days. absolutely Punto with a leadoff single off of KRod. Any votes KRod gets for Cy Young are misplaced, as he's one of the most overrated relievers in baseball.
  9. since when did Grant Balfour become disgustingly good? The dude has bounced around the majors for quite a few years now and he's just been an absolute monster this year. He's always had pretty good stuff, but I didn't think it was ever this good, and those numbers remind me of LaTroy Hawkins.
  10. Juan Rivera with a sac fly, 5-3 Angels, 2 outs
  11. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) Did he get that triple over the immortal Carlos Gomez? oh yeah...Gomez sucks
  12. Gary Matthews sucks but he didn't that AB. Another Angel triple, 4-3 Angels, 1 out
  13. Vlad brings in Teix with a triple. 3-3, 0 outs, Torii up.
  14. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) Anyway we can trade for Ronnie Belliard at 2B next year? Last 2 years combined he's a .280 hitter with a .345 OBP (about). Not sure on his D as I'd rather not watch Nationals baseball. and see him stick out his tongue every time he comes up to the plate? NO
  15. Twins almost got some more voodoo luck as a Kubel foul ball was originally called a homer...ball was foul by a foot, the umps got together, and made the right call. 3-2 Twins in the top of the 8th
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 02:53 AM) GODDAMMIT and there goes my prediction for a 4.5 game lead. I should probably just stab myself for being wrong, because that way I can live to see it, but then I'll suffer more. I guess 2.5 will have to work. You know, I f***ing planned this all out, to the Swisher homer and everything, and I was really figuring the Sox would beat Kazmir, and then f***ing Thornton. f***in f*** f*** f*** s*** cock f*** b**** ass f*** whore cocksucking son of a b**** I'll slap the f***ing cott out of your name you Skazmir son of a f***. f*** you Scott Kazmir, I hope you get whiskey dick unexpectedly tonight with your hot girlfriend, especially if your sober, you Texas piece of s*** (no offense to anybody else from Texas, because there are a lot of them, and I love them all). GODDAMMIT. And, oh yeah, Ozzieshouldhavegonetothepensooner, Twinsaref***ingghey, atleasttheAngelswon, I'veneverrootedharderforsomeonetobreakarecordaSoxplayerheldinmyentirelife, and f***.the.Twins. Goddammit. goddammit

    QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 10:29 PM) wite wants to protect me. when/if we cuddle
  19. The White Sox apparently have no one they can build around. SI/BP can suck a f***ing dong.
  20. People actually give a s*** about ESPN? I use it for highlights and to watch the WSOP and I don't watch or take anything seriously from them anymore. I haven't in probably a year. I'll catch it for s***s and giggles now and then, but that's about it.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 09:56 AM) Pair of jeans and no shirt, in case I want a piece of a 1st base coach. You too? That's crazy. We should meet up before the game and finish a bottle of whiskey sometime.
  22. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 11:09 PM) Twins just went ahead 2-1 in the 12th. What's new. Everyone talking about how hard this road trip will be for them....they will come back with a winning record guaranteed It wouldn't be surprising, but I don't see it happening. I also think it's worth noting that Torii Hunter would have caught that ball if he was wearing a Twins uniform. 100% guarantee it. He probably just wasn't trying as hard because he still likes the Twins.
  23. QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 10:50 PM) How come no one has been talking about Danks IP anymore? I know we haven't seen his performance struggle at all, but at least a month ago half of this board was worried about what to do with Danks to not wear him out or kill his arm. Contreras went down and it seems like we just aren't talking about it because we don't want to talk about it anymore. I'm scared absolutely s***less about Danks but if he keeps producing, I'm not going to complain.

    i am drunk

    semi-sweet recovery story (and no, not what you instantly think) I am sitting here, reading posts and post-game wrap-ups (GRIFFEEEEY...yell it right now, I guarantee it's still exciting)...anyways, laughed at something, spilled my beer, and it went BEHIND my computer/hard-drive...realize I'm working with my desktop here, the one I take to school...so I freak out quietly momentarily, move the "tower" (or whatever your name for the harddrive is), and see that said spilled beer made its way around the computer to the back of my wall. As far as I can tell, my computer is A-OK. I love physics or God or whatever force propelled said spilled beer to my wall rather than my computer. I also only used the backspace bar 13 times in previous post...perhaps 14 by now (and now it is 16, but who cares), but whatever.
  25. QUOTE (TCQ @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 11:03 PM) What if we hired carl yastremski to jus sit in the booth and not say a word, and put ventura next to him... Would hawks head explode, and if so would DJ be able to continue the broadcast covered in hawks brain juices...ideas? do you do autographs?
