  1. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ May 1, 2008 -> 10:55 AM) uggh....I'm not sure that's what he was advocating. ugh is right
  2. QUOTE (almagest @ May 1, 2008 -> 10:03 AM) We also don't have to worry about seeing Luis Tererro, Andy Gonzalez, or Alex Cintron either. Pablo's back, Crede's back and playing alright, Thome's not hurt, and Dye has no lingering injury concerns. We've also scored a ton of runs this year, and really only started to tail off within the past 5 or 6 games. Out of 162. Yes, I am a little worried, and yes, it's disgusting watching the "offense" lately, but anyone up in arms about this team's offense needs to take it easy. Someone that understands. Nice.
  3. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 1, 2008 -> 10:07 AM) Fields plays 3B so where is he going to play with Joe Crede in the lineup. He would be a PH at best. You'd tell Joe to try and get splinters in his ass.
  4. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 1, 2008 -> 10:05 AM) Too much to think about. I will wait to hear if this is true or not. He already called up Wasserman, who hasn't really been used and when he has he hasn't done all that great so maybe he's going back down or Ramirez? Maybe they have to put someone on the DL. After Guillen's positive talk about Massett I can't see them doing anythign with him other than keep him. He has no options left anyway. Wasserman's faced 6 batters.
  5. Tracy is indeed very close to returning. He was supposed to start a minor league rehab assignment last week, so I imagine he'd be back in the next week or two. As far as Davis, I'm not sure they'll have room in the rotation for him...Webb-Haren-RJ-Owings-Scherzer is stout. Perhaps as a reliever if they don't mind paying a reliever a few million (like $6-7 I'd imagine). They are absolutely stacked. It's hard to believe that 4 years ago this team lost 111 games.
  6. If I weren't a poor college student, I'd gladly help out monetarily. Regardless of that, good luck in your endeavor and I hope you can reach your goal. This is fantastic.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 11:56 PM) As wite mentioned earlier, the Diamondbacks are a different animal right now. I don't think 100 wins, assuming they stay reasonably healthy, is out of the question. Their amatuer scouts all deserve SERIOUS raises. I've never really been jealous of another team. But the way they draft/develop talent gets me hot. The only reason we have CQ is because they draft/develop so well. I think 100 wins is likely, rather than merely "not out of the question." I'm wondering more if they won't win 105-110 games. Fantastic rotation, good bullpen, and, at the very least, a top 3 offense in the NL, and perhaps the best. In my eyes, they just outclass every team in the majors right now. Perhaps that's from beating up on s***ty NL pitching, but I don't see that right now. Thankfully the resigned Byrnes. Had they not, they'd have Quentin in LF right now. Try and imagine that.
  8. This still sounds like something that could need a DL trip. It just hurts the dude's hand to swing a bat. At the very least, I could see him sitting down for 3-4 games if it gets bad enough.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 07:43 PM) Hard to argue with Dempster so far. Cardinals have good pitching match-ups this weekend vs Cubs...be nice if they win at least 2 of 3. I'll believe Dempster if he can keep it up throughout June. As of now, I don't believe it. Just for trivial purposes, there was a reliever turned starter last year who put up a 1.91 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 18/10 K/BB and 2 homers allowed in 5 starts, 33 IP in April last year. He ended the year with a 4.94 ERA. I'm not saying Ryan Dempster is Braden Looper by any stretch of the imagination, but I am saying I wouldn't be surprised if his year end line looked like that. Pretty similar numbers to be quite honest.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 09:36 PM) PK said tonight it's a persistent problem he's having that's not going away. I could definitely see a DL stint if it's persistent.
  11. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 03:03 PM) What in sams hell made that cat wander into Chicago and just camp out. Thats just crazy You've apparently never been to South Dakota.
  12. What's your thought process when facing a pitcher you've never seen before? How do you adjust from at bat to at bat over the course of the year? How do you try to get out of a slump? Any superstitions? hopefully that'll get the ball rolling
  13. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 07:45 PM) Even for the position he could play, 3B, I can't imagine Crede willingly giving up one or two games a week since he's playing for a contract. Then he can pout, because he's not the manager and he's not a superstar.
  14. QUOTE (max power @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 07:26 PM) Are you talking about this year or career or who is the better player right now? Its hard to compare with all the bums pitching in the NL central. Highly subjective. Well for that matter, let's compare pitching staffs. Outside of Zambrano, who on their staff is better then Sox pitchers?
  15. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 04:23 PM) 2B is the second easiest position to play in the infield, and third easiest to play in baseball. Fields would be no GG at 2B, but he'd certainly be able to handle the position. That doesn't make it easy. You have to be rangy, agile, and quick. I'm not sure Fields is any of those 3. 3B is all reactions, and Fields' reaction time is fine. But to be able to cover 15-20 feet of ground - I don't see Fields being able to accomplish that. Fields would probably be a worse defensive player at 2B than D'Angelo Jimenez.
  16. I would love to see Fields on this team on the bench if he could play LF, RF, and 1B too...you could get him 4-5 games a week if that were the case. You envision him playing against every lefty at DH, so that's about 1-2 games a week and then you have him play a game or two a week at 3B. If he knew LF, RF, and 1B, you could substitute him variably throughout the course of the season and he'd be getting pretty solid playing time The problem, of course, is that he can't play LF, RF, and 1B, so this post is pretty much pointless.
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) 57 of 260 is Are you saying that it's >50%? 57 of 260 are having a problem with it on PS3 55 of 260 are not having a problem with it on PS3 57 > 55
  18. QUOTE (Soxpranos @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 05:03 PM) If we are going on facts, Mark has the worst WHIP of all our starters. He also has the lowest career ERA of any of the starters too. Why does everything have to be fact? It's of my opinion that Buehrle will be fine - I don't really see anything uncorrectable in his stats line, and, seeing as how in his past 4 starts he has a 3.67 ERA and allowed 1 homer in 27 innings, I don't think that opinion is wrong. He had an absolutely terrible opener, but he's been perfectly fine since that point in time. I'll also put it out there and say that your posts are the kind of snarky posts that piss people off. I'm a smartass and cocky a lot of times, but I never have any venom in any of my posts...sometimes people don't see that, but I never do. You, on the other hand, seemingly almost always have that venom.
  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 04:32 PM) How so? I don't get to see every game. The one time I saw Floyd pitch in person was at Baltimore, and he looked dominant. Mediocre K/BB, low ground ball percentage, and teams are starting to be patient and just wait for their pitch. I'm a fan of Floyd, but he's just looked a bit lost at times. His change is pretty damn good now a days though...if he can work his fastball in with that and use his breaking stuff a little more sporadically, I'd love him. Basically, good lineups will hit him, bad lineups generally will not...about a #4 starter.
  20. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 10:37 AM) Only if you feel that Fields and Broadway will play up to their ceiling which I feel is their highest right now and neither will be anythign more than average players at best. That has nothing to do with it at all. It has everything to do with value. You don't trade your two most valuable pieces for a role player, and that's what Brian Roberts is. If you trade those two, along with others, you have to get a star back in return, be it a pitcher or a hitter - that doesn't matter. And quite honestly, I have no problem dealing Broadway for him. It's more Fields than anything else. He's by far, the most valuable minor leaguer right now. Carlos Quentin, Nick Swisher > Darin Erstad and Scott Podsednik ITS F***ING APRIL. Can we atleast wait until like June to declare that the offense is terrible? It's so frustrating the way people are jumping to conclusions. It's May 1st and some people have essentially conceded that the season's over, some have declared that the offense is terrible, and some are trying to trade the Sox two best prospects for a 2Bman who won't make or break the lineup.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) This team just isn't very good. The OC experience has been a massive bust so far, Thome has been worthless after the 6th inning, and Dye know looks like he's never seen a pitch before in his life. With the Tigers having Granderson back, and the Indians getting strong performances from Cliff Lee, I don't see anyway this team can stay on top of the AL Central. Thome hasn't hit period yet; he's not going to hit .220 all season. I wouldn't complain about the offense right now because I'm still much more concerned about the pitching. Floyd looks like he's ready to fall apart any outing now and I don't know how much confidence you can have in Contreras. I'm content with Buehrle and very happy with Vazquez and Danks. I'm also not worried about the bullpen either - I think it has a chance to be a top 5 unit in the AL. And I think the offense will come around - I don't see any way the Sox will have 5 hitters with a sub .230 average. Two, surely I can see that - not more than half the lineup though. I'd say back away from the ledge until atleast June, and then we'll have a real good grasp of how good this team is.
  22. QUOTE (stretchstretch @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 03:35 PM) 2nd half 06, the entire 2007, and a month of 2008 say Hi This is not a new phenomenon with this group I really wish people would stop comparing the 2007 lineup to the 2008 lineup. They are totally different because there's actually a bit of developed talent in the 2008 lineup. OH NOZ THEY ARENT GOOD YET who f***ing gives a s***, wait for the year to play out a bit before you declare the lineup terrible...I bet when the weather actually does warm up again, the Sox lineup takes off..you know, like what's happened for the past 5 years. They aren't good in April, it gets warm in May, June, July, and August, and the offense takes off. For f***'s sake, they were playing in 3 inches of water on Monday, and playing in the dome in Minnesota always f***s with opponents, what with their fans helping the Twins and hurting others.
  23. LOL, I love when the Sox lose because it brings the crazies out of the caves.
  24. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) meh. he's a middle reliever. Which is why he's starting on Monday.
  25. Alexei's not going to Toronto with the team. Visa issues.
