QUOTE(rackemup @ Feb 1, 2008 -> 02:45 PM) Who's Tom Brady? Google search results Tom Brady - 728,000 Tiger Woods - 18,200,000 I pick Tiger, plus I don't think Tom Brady is all that great at football. He looks unstoppable this year because of his receivers, but I never felt the Patriots won their first couple super bowls because of him. He benefits from a well rounded team. While Tiger gets all the credit for what he has done and is projected to do. Not to mention, Tom Brady does not have billion dollar potential, he is stuck being a millionaire. You wouldn't be referring to the well rounded team that cost them a trip to the Super Bowl last year, would you? -

QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Feb 1, 2008 -> 11:01 AM) For someone who said four words the entire White Sox/Red Sox series ("Ortiz", "Ramirez", "Schilling" and "Red Sawx"), he's got a lot to say there. um thats 5 words and, technically, 3 names, 1 word, and 1 made up word -

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jan 31, 2008 -> 10:23 PM) One crazy prediction, which really isn't all that crazy when you take into account how many top prospects fail, is that Evan Longoria will be a garbage major leaguer. Do you have any basis for that, or are you just throwing darts at a wall again?

QUOTE(Soxy @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) Is USD hiring? Because I would take a job there. It wouldn't surprise me; I imagine we are looking at an increased amount of students over the next few years, and we are adding/renovating tons of buildings around here because of our move to D-IAA. I really don't actually know, but it really wouldn't surprise me in the least. Pretty nice campus too, seeing as how everythings all close together; that much is really nice. It snows a lot though. Like it's snowing again right now.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 04:24 PM) I should rephrase that then. Brady is hated by all MALES outside of New England (except for 1 Gregory Pratt). I am a fan of Brady as well -
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 01:54 AM) I dont know if we miss the playoffs or not, depends on I guess who was there instead and his impact. But... Pods was definitely a very important part of that 05 team and when he hit well it made our offense a helluva lot better. this

QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Jan 28, 2008 -> 12:42 PM) Scott Podsednik - who I think we will all agree did more than a good job of leading off for us in 2005 - had an OBP of .351 that year. Jerry managed a .324 last season - just 27 points off of what Scott did. I think it's very reasonable to say that Owens could show improvement and have an OBP of .350 in 2008, and he's shown he has just as much speed as Podsednik. An on base percentage of .360-.380 for a White Sox leadoff hitter would be awesome, but it's certainly not a pre-requisite. I'd completely disagree that Podsednik did a good job leading off in 2005, let alone "more than" one. He was an adequate leadoff hitter. The offense in general in 2005 was absolutely pitiful; pitching, defense, and the 3-run homer was what won the Sox games in 2005, and that dates back to good old Earl Weaver. Ozzie Guillen was just as volatile too, so it worked out wonderfully.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jan 27, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) No way! Dude might actually need a year at AA and then another at AAA. (Actually, I don't think I'd go that far for real, but AR has almost a zero percent chance of being good at the ML level right away. He isn't Roy Hobbs.) But if he was, that would be pretty neat

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 27, 2008 -> 03:26 PM) Still same ol' jeckle... good to know. Seriously, Dye has averaged 34 homers a year as a member of the Sox; it's not inconceivable to think that Dye could hit 36 homers.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 27, 2008 -> 09:33 PM) I hate Ted Lilly....but he's still a solid starting pitcher. Jason Marquis is laughable, but I just didn't understand the Lilly hate. He'd easily be our #3. That speaks more about how rough the White Sox rotation is than how good Lilly is though. I understand what you are saying...Lilly is a solid starter, but his numbers were good last year playing in a pretty crappy NL Central and NL in general. I'm not sure if you can count on a sub 4 ERA again, but I could easily see something like what he did in 2006, around 4.25. That is good, but is a bit bloated because of the NL.

QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Jan 27, 2008 -> 01:40 PM) For what he brings both offensively and defensively, as well as being loved by the fans of Chicago, I think he's very much worth signing to a long-term deal. Now, is he worth $12.5M a season? Well, who is? I mean, in this era of players making millions and millions of dollars, is anyone really worth it? I say that if you have a player that is productive, loved by the fans, and wants to be a part of the team, then you do whatever is reasonable to make that happen. This of course would all be under the assumption that he comes to camp and proves he is healthy. And I'll add that it depends on what we get for Josh Fields in a trade. He would have to be used to acquire someone really good who will help us now. I don't think Erik Bedard would be an option, but if the only thing keeping that from happening is trading Josh Fields, make it happen now. Joe Crede is not that good though. That's why I state that. He's had one full season with an OPS/OPS+ over .800/100. His career OPS is .750, and while his defense is good, that doesn't make up for the nearly $6 mill difference that his bat is worth (I figure that's around $6 mill or so). Add to it that how fans in Chicago feel about him should have nothing to do with it; if you are basing signings off of that, you are going to fail. People love Podsednik (though he really wore out his welcome by the end of his stay), but he was sent packing because he's a terrible player. Mark Buehrle was brought back not because the fans of Chicago love him, but because he's a damn good pitcher. Jon Garland, who too was a fan favorite, was sent packing because they needed to get some value for him before he left town. Aaron Rowand was deity after the 2005 season, and he was then abruptly traded for Jim Thome. How fans feel about a certain player should never have any effect on whether they are coming back or not. Joe Crede is not worth $12.5 mill a year, even in this market. If he gets that, more power to him, but it better be from San Francisco or Baltimore, and not Chicago.
