  1. QUOTE(almagest @ Jan 19, 2008 -> 01:44 PM) Maybe he wanted to pitch in his home state. Also, Jennings is a lefty, right? We already have Buehrle and probably Danks. Any more lefties in the rotation and we'd become the 2004 Kansas City Royals. Right handed
  2. QUOTE(almagest @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 11:18 PM) So the Mets took a pass on him due to health reasons (the METS of all teams), he likely won't be ready until a month or two into the season (or more), he's not a lock to be successful by any means, and he wants more than a one year deal? Why do people want him again? Because of the notion that he could be had for a 1 year deal. No one has ever stated wanting him for 2 years.
  3. I really don't think people understand how much the Dotel signing would mean. That's a world of difference.
  4. I pray this move happens, because that would be a fantastic contract. Short-term contract for one of the better relievers in the league when he's healthy.
  5. you put the backslash part at the end, not the beginning. That's why it always looks funny. [fart] like so [/fart]

  7. QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 02:27 AM) Green is the color of horniness, you naughty monkey. No, that's red, I think, and monkey's are brown
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 12:15 AM) Great work on the graphic. Of course I said nothing about stats, I said same pedigree, meaning they were never as highly thought of, nor expected to be as good. Danks and Floyd were both top picks and top prospects, including inside the top 50. Gallagher and Marshall are not quite the same pedigree. Carlos Quentin was also a better "prospect" than Markakis, Young, Jenks, Tulowitski, Hanley, Maybin, and Braun in 2006, regardless of what level they were on. You don't just trade prospects that are that good for DH's in low-A. If Gallagher and Marshall were better than Danks and Floyd, I would not be surprised in the least, especially from what I've seen. Them being top picks/prospects means virtually nothing. Brian Anderson was the 37th best prospect according to BA in 2005 and was a 1st round draft pick; that just so happens to be the year he was ranked 2 spots below Gavin Floyd. If Floyd has value, Anderson has value, no?
  9. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 11:21 PM) A version of this girl is at every single Alumni club I have ever been too. The over-talky cock-blocky type. I am going to kill that b****
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2008 -> 05:01 PM) If Dye could raise his value high enough that'd be one option....but it would strongly require someone else to step up and show that they have the ability to be his replacement in the OF. Right now, if we trade Dye, we're swapping Dye for Owens...and that's a LOT of offense to lose. If Brian Anderson could ever get his head out of his tail and hit .300 with 25 home runs and 25 stolen bases like he was supposed to....so that we could run the Quentin/Anderson/Swisher OF that would be solid offensively and defensively...then trading Dye would be a solid move...but without someone to take his place...it'd have to be a really killer deal to move him. If you are trading Dye, you could also look for an outfielder to come back to the White Sox, or you can scrounge the waiver wire for a high ceiling or toolsy outfielder as well.
  11. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Jan 17, 2008 -> 11:11 AM) wish I had this kinda chump change.......... I think everyone on this site has that same wish.

  13. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 14, 2008 -> 11:12 AM) but still... thats two big losses and to beat indy on the road was a defining game for the chargers. assuming they get LT and Rivers back... an upset is brewing in foxboro. book it. No...no way
  14. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 11:42 AM) You think the Sox have a shot at signing Torii Hunter ? No, they are going to sign Juan Pierre and Barry Zito.
  15. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 12:37 PM) Gee, no team wanted to give the Angels a broken bat for Bobby Jenks, KW shouldn't have claimed him. There's probably very little chance Colon is the CY Young pitcher he was in 2005, but even if there's a 30% chance that he could be a decent 4th or 5th starter what is the harm in signing him if the guarantee is low? You lose a couple million dollars. That's all. For the Sox, that's chump change.
  16. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 06:26 PM) I agree with everything you said until the lasting past 140 innings. Um...John Danks has exactly 1 year in the majors. I think you can give him a break. John Danks threw 140 innings in the minors in 2006 too. That's two straight years of 140 innings with no increase at all. 160 innings would have been a little better; being able to show that he can handle a bit of a workload would be really nice. I have yet to see that, but I'm not about to write him off either. I like Danks, don't get me wrong, and I do think he has a very bright future in the bigs; all I really think is that he is not nearly as ready for the majors as people tend to think he is. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 06:56 PM) First off, your wording of "final 55.2 IP" is a joke because he threw 70 innings last year. You basically just tossed out two of his horses*** starts and a crappy appearance in mop up duty at Yankee staduim. The first time he face Detroit he was pounded because Sheff, Magglio, Guillen and Polanco were all in the lineup. Granderson surprisingly went 0-5 Next start, his only win: Sheff was not in the lineup and Sean Casey started out in the 3rd spot, later replaced by Craig Monroe. Mike Hessmanplayed at first and Mike Rabelo was in for I-Roid. 3rd start against them: Maggs and Sheff were not in the lineup. Ryan Raburn was in the third spot. Timo Perez played in the OF and Marcus Thames was the DH batting 8th. 4th Start against them: Timo Perez was batting third. Maggs and Sheff were not in the lineup. If we're going to conveniently throw out bad starts and look at September stats, Jerry Owens should be our leadoff hitter playing CF next season. It's not a f***ing joke; it's called a pitcher showing improvement as the year goes on. If you want to say I'm cherry picking stats, by all means do it, because quite frankly I am. It doesn't change the fact that he got better as the year went on. He's not the 4.04 ERA pitcher he was the final two months of the year, but he quite obviously proved that he's not the 5 homers a game guy he was in his first 15 innings of the year. How else is the untrained eye supposed to be able to tell if a pitcher is improving? And, while that 55.2 IP is a small sample size, it's not nearly as small as the first 14 innings he got rocked in early on which inflated his ERA to the point it was last season. Because of 14 terrible innings, his ERA increased more than a point. I'm not about to suggest he's going to be a world beater by any means, but to suggest he "sucks" because of whatever the hell evidence you used..a weak Detroit lineup, whatever the hell that means. BTW, thanks for conveniently leaving out the fact that Ryan Raburn put up .304/.340/.507/.847 in 150 PAs last year; you mention him like he's some scrub, when in reality he was actually a pretty damn good hitter last year. And Timo Perez hit .389. He's a bad hitter for his career, but he wasn't bad last year. All I said was that Gavin Floyd didn't face the AAA Tigers; you have yet to disprove me. He also faced the Cleveland Indians starting lineup and shut them down pretty well, and you didn't even bring that up. Gavin Floyd is not a stud, but he was a damn good pitcher last year between AAA and the majors outside of his first 14 innings in the bigs. As you said, that's two starts and some mopup duty. Are you seriously going to tell me a pitcher sucks because 8% of what he did all year was absolutely terrible? That's absolute horses***, because I can do the exact same thing with John Danks or any number of pitchers.
  17. QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 10:06 PM) gotta love the turn this thread took! p.s. my roommate got up drunk as hell went into what he thought was the bathroom and proceeded to pee all over my other roommate and his girlfriend in bed. And by your roommate you mean you pissed all over everyone.
  18. aww, I have been one-upped. I have both puked on my pants and pissed myself, but they were not in the same night. That woulda been sweet.
  19. And more than that, David Eckstein had 24 other guys around him, including a top 3 hitter in baseball when he won his last one. There are bad players on great teams and great players on bad teams, and everything in between. Just because you are on a good team does not mean you are a good ball player. Timo Perez has two World Series rings too, but he's not a good ballplayer by any stretch of the imagination. More than anything, David Eckstein filled the role for the Cardinals in 2006 and the Angels in 2002 reasonably well, and did all that they asked him to do. That's about all you can ask for, whether the player is good or bad.
  20. Royce Clayton starts and ends this thread.
  21. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 04:42 PM) That's only if Timo is the DH batting third, Hessman is in for Guillen, Sheff and Maggs are on the bench, and Vance Wilson is in for I-Roid. Gavin Floyd sucks. He's out of options, so he shouldn't be viewed as a piece of the future. He should be kept on a very short leash. Gavin Floyd put up an ERA of 4.04 in his final 55.2 IP last year, which includes both August and September. And the 5.11 ERA he put up in August, along with every other peripheral across the board improving, would be more than adequate as a back of the rotation starter. And, for technicality purposes, Timo never DH'ed against the White Sox; atleast not when Gavin Floyd was starting. Guillen started the final 3 games (the games Floyd pitched well in), IRod played in 2 of the 3, Maggs played in 1 and pinch hit in another, and Granderson and Polanco led off all 3. Don't act like he played against the AAA version of the Tigers; that's an injustice to Floyd, regardless of how you feel about him. Along with that, he also held a pretty good Indians lineup in check too. Point blank, I'm glad you are not in a position to determine who and who does not suck. He's 25, put up a pretty damn good year at AAA last year, and actually lasted past 140 innings (176.2 to be exact, with 6 games coming out of the bullpen), something John Danks hasn't proven he can do yet. At this point in time, I view Floyd as a superior MLB pitcher to John Danks. I see no reason to think otherwise.
  22. Lofton left the White Sox on bad terms, he's not coming back here. Carlos Silva signed with Seattle before Christmas.
