She looks better from behind, but looks great nonetheless

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 07:06 PM) The problem with trading MMac is that it still makes very little sense to trade a guy when he's possibly at the lowest value he could be at. Another bad season, and how much does his value go down? Not much, because any team acquiring him is hoping for a comeback anyway. I actually think MacDougal's value goes completely down if he has a bad season again, whereas right now he still has a bit of value simply because he has outstanding stuff, is signed to a reasonable year, and was only terrible last year. The unpredictability of relievers has a lot to do with that.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) And it would have made absolutely zero difference. Who the f*** cares about David Aardsma? I think Aardsma is the tallest midget out of MacDougal, Masset, and Sisco.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 12:13 PM) Oh I see. So the fact that Josh only hit 52 HR in 1400 minor league AB is due to focusing on something else. Now he's going to shoot right up to 40+ HR because he's now unleashed. If only it were that simple. How is it not that simple? He hit .298 in 667 ABs at AAA; his major league average falls almost 50 points at the cost of power, and that's not a reasonable explanation?

don't ask someone if they have ever bowled a 300 when they are in the midst of bowling it. I've never seen someone be asked that question, and then seen a 300 from that person. JUST DON'T F***ING DO IT. Thankfully, nobody asked me when I got both of mine. Other than that, I have this compulsion to get flat out hammered every Friday and Saturday nowadays. Not sure why.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 11:56 AM) Who are the Orioles options for CF and SS currently? Neither would be the focal point of a deal but they both would be useful pieces to the Orioles and fill their needs. Those guys aren't useful for anything except perhaps being nice human beings. They are both pretty bad at baseball.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 11:54 AM) But using your logic with Bartolo Colon why if the Giants didn't want him, they took Hawkins off the Cubs hands for him, if the Cubs didn't want him, they traded him straight up for Cotts when Cotts couldn't have lower market value, and the White Sox DFA him with all of their bullpen problems and pretty near maxed out financially, would anyone want him? cuz Aardsma doesn't cost as much at restaurants

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 11:47 AM) Jenks would obviously be of interest to the O's, but the other four names you mentioned have no value to them. Baltimore will be looking for young players with upside. Uribe probably was the worst major league regular in baseball last season, Anderson has crushed his value, Masset is a dime a dozen pitcher, and Aardsma was just DFA'd. They have no value. If they did, I can assure you both Anderson and Uribe would have already been dealt. Vizquel was worse than Uribe last year, and San Francisco was so happy he played like complete horses***, they decided it would be cool to have him back while giving him a raise. Yeah, makes no sense to me either.

bummer dude, I really liked Aardsma. I assume the Sox kept Masset over Aards because Masset can actually start. It's too bad, hopefully someone likes him enough that they'll give a person in a baseball uniform for him.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 20, 2008 -> 09:51 PM) Considering Josh never put up more than 20 HR in any full season in the minor leagues, it looks as if those 23 in 373 ABs are not the norm. And I hope we aren't judging Josh's progress by his HR totals. You can in fact improve as a hitter without improving your HR numbers. No, I would say he was probably being told to work on something else in the minors.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 11:52 PM) Good thing no one lives in North Dakota. You're a towel and I live in South Dakota right now, which is way too close to Iowa for comfort, but regardless...shove it

I hope Tom Terrific just f***s them. And I hope this foot in a boot thing is all a ploy to try and get the Giants to think that Tom Brady is sore.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 10:54 AM) Yes yes! They're unfunny and completely uncreative. The scary thing is, I've been at 'bar' type places where those commercials run on Sundays, and they usually draw several laughs from the audience. They're trying to completely ruin the Green and Mora tirades. The Green and Mora ones aren't funny at all, but I really like some of the Parcells ones. The one with big foot and whatever the hell face he does are pretty good. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 20, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) Two words: viva Viagra Also those new Budweiser commercials about how it has the finest ingredients, strictest quality tests, no imperfections. Give me a break, your beer is ass Yes

Official Bring Back Freddy Garica Thread

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 11:23 PM) While Freddy has probably made enough money so that his great great great grandchildren never have to work again, he is only 31, and still could be in for at least one more payday. Granted, Freddy was in a contract year in 07, and that didn't go very well, but maybe Oz could light a fire under his ass. Freddy does not want a fire under his ass; he would prefer it be in his bowl. -

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 12:54 AM) I disagree. He got knocked around in 06 because he was laying meatballs over the plate consistently. 86 from 89-90 is quite a drop off. That had more to do with him leaving meatballs out over the plate than it did the drop in velocity.

Comparing Weaver to AJ is apples to oranges. AJ was an asshole on the field, and still quite frankly is, but there was never the bad blood between AJ and the Sox; Weaver was drafted by the Sox in the 2nd round and didn't sign, so there's that, and then he participated in the 2000 brawl. I don't recall the details of that, but I seem to remember reading he played a pretty significant role in it. And he has Boras on his free agent; have the White Sox ever signed a Boras client who was a free agent? I know they were close to signing Kenny Rogers a couple years back, but that never materialized, and he ended up joining the Twins in a pretty dick move (I seem to remember the Sox were going to sign him for $3 mill, and then someone backed out, so that part is fuzzy, but then he signed for like $2 mill with the Twins). Weaver will never sign with the Sox.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 10:50 AM) Is it too early to say Octavio Dotel? yes
-
QUOTE(quickman @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 07:35 AM) they are both represented by Scott Boras. Not going to happen end of story

QUOTE(almagest @ Jan 19, 2008 -> 10:43 PM) When has Colon or his agent said he was only seeking a 1 year deal? Alex Rodriguez and Scott Boras were seeking $400 million in free agency. They didn't get that. I don't give a s*** what his agent says, because if he wants work, he'll probably have to take a 1 year deal at this point.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jan 20, 2008 -> 07:19 PM) Technically, he did play (got hurt later) but probably wouldn't have been that much of a difference. Point is, it takes balls and is a mistake (not smart) to bet against NE. Pratt's been saying that from the get-go. It looks like only Farve (mind you GB and NY are still playing now) stands in Brady's way. Bull. San Diego covered the spread today. (and I know what you mean, but I'm of course just talking about actual betting, with the spread and all that fun stuff)

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 19, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) I'm not comparing the players. I'm comparing the philosophy. Overpaying for aging middle relievers. K, that still doesn't explain why these are bad signings. And the point still remains that both Linebrink and Dotel are movable if the Sox feel inclined to trade them. Sure, if you are going to constantly do it, or if you are building a bullpen that way, which is what the Orioles tried to do. However, the Sox are adding two relievers, one of whom is a stud when he's healthy.
