Danks will have exploratory surgery
JohnCangelosi replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 04:35 PM) Williams, meanwhile, said reports that left-hander John Danks could face season-ending surgery "was news to me. From Chicago tribune article about Liriano. Link: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,2563686.story Hawk just said that Danks looked like he was going to be "cut" FWIW -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 09:01 PM) It makes me feel a whole lot better about this trade deadline to see both Floyd and Humber pitch pretty well. I think Phil is finally healthy again. Humber may have saved his job (for now) tonight. I know we don't have many other choices now but... -

QUOTE (northside sawx @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 08:24 PM) Who the f*** just barehanded that in the pen? Impressive. I'll say Addison Hector. Who, BTW, should be getting up right now. -

It's not over yet. I remember a game when I was a kid where Bob James had a 4-0 lead and 11 pitches later the game was over 5-4 in Arlington. Probably the quickest 4 run deficit I've ever seen disappear in my life. -

Anyone else get that "not so fresh feeling" when seeing Addison Reed warmup these days? -

Two nice swings by Gordon tonight, reminiscent of 2009. Confident. Short. Quick. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 06:52 PM) This is insane, with regards to his velocity. When a pitcher's velocity is down 5 mph, something is clearly not right with him. I really hope it's only fatigue. Are these fastballs at 86-87? -
Will you believe in Beckham at 4M per? Because that's going to be his salary next year.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 07:56 PM) One of the main weaknesses (according to many) about Williams is that he gambles too much year to year...which precludes the White Sox from ever building a sustainable group of younger players maturing together and winning for 2-3-4 seasons. KW has proven this year he could "modernize" how we deal with the draft, we're starting to get more players from the Dominican and Venezuela...it's very much a strategic vision sea change from recent years. The market will turn to favor the buyers as teams like the Cubs have to worry about getting stuck with Dempster, Garza, Maholm, etc. The Brewers aren't going to get what they want for Greinke, the Marlins for Johnson, the Phillies for Lee, etc. This is one situation where KW is better off being patient and waiting until the last moment. I'm surprised by the lack of action so far this year at the deadline...maybe that will change in the next few days but definitely everyday that passes a team like the Cubs must be dropping their demands as they're not going to want to hang on to some of their SP's in the mode they're in. Strangely the GM for the Brewers admitted 100% they are trading Greinke. Seems like saying something like this affects your leverage- and not in a favorable way.

A BOMB

I posted this in the Trade winds thread but Ryan Roberts is available. I will take him over Gordon. I am so sick of these p**** at bats he gives us, especially in crucial times. He is a consummate rally killer. The only good thing you can say about him is he plays good D.
-
Ryan Roberts was DFA'd by the Dbacks and it's been said that he will be dealt before the deadline. Any interest there? I love Gordon's D but sick of the passes he's taking at the ball. This would be an upgrade at 2B offensively, would it not be? He also can play 3B and give Youk a day off. Not sure of his contract situation however....

It seems to me that Gordon in the 9th inning in clutch situations is about 2 for 234, with those 2 hits coming in 2009. Is it just me? -

Surprised we didn't go to AJ and Viciedo instead of the AAA ballplayers in Danks and T Flo -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 12:38 PM) Turner has one good start this year, one bad start. It's not like he's had a 6 ERA for the entire season. Of course he had no issues with the 7/8/9 of the Sox lineup today, which is about AAA caliber. Why is Flowers starting today? Because he's country strong? -
Getting back on point, are we REALLY committed to paying a setup guy $10M next year?!!?!?!?!!?!?!? That's ridiculous. We must be getting $5M from Houston? What are the terms here please?
-
On another note, can anyone remember a team with so many individuals having great years while at the same time having such an anemic offense? Paradox.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 04:58 PM) Because this whole weekend was predictable from the moment Matt Thornton entered the game Thursday night. Yes, and I think tomorrow's conclusion is in the books as well. I hate to say it but you just knew this was going to happen once Cody Ross did his cute little bat flip. It's ok we're only 1.5 games out after tomorrow and this Tiger's team is very beatable this year.

I love the way the Tigers are acting as if they got this division all wrapped up already. That interview with Max said it all.
