QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Mar 10, 2016 -> 03:50 PM) Another nice shot by Avi into the left-centerfield gap. He is absolutely on fire. I know it's a very small sample size but he looks like a completely different hitter in the chances I've got to see him this spring. I really think this is the year he puts it together. Agreed. If he hits like this out of the gate I guess that LaRoche will be the odd man out?

I'm surprised that probably 80% of this board wants to throw Avi out with the bath water now, when he's only in his age 24-25 season. Guys like Carlos Gomez or Aaron Rowand come to mind as guys who didn't develop until age 26 or 27. I realize we have a limited time to contend here and we should be trying to win now, but still, maybe management is gambling he can have a rebound season and put up some decent numbers. There's no guarantee any of the FA or trade options left are going to produce more than Avi this year, I suspect.

Jim O'Toole, another recent passing
JohnCangelosi replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Thanks for this post. Jim was my fathers 1st cousin and of course he knew him very well. He lived out the rest of his life in Cincinnati with his wife and 11 kids. RIP. -
The only question that matters now is would we have gotten more for him at the deadline than what we will get with the comp pick?? Discuss.

The crazy thing is 2016 and beyond could be determined in the next 3 days. Seems a bit ridiculous really that we will judge whether or not we can make it to the playoffs based on 3 games out of 162.

More evidence of Chicago media turning on Ventura
JohnCangelosi replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If we could get Ozzie minus the circus surrounding him with his family posting on Twitter and all of the rest that goes with it I would hire him again in a heartbeat. The truth is he wore out his welcome here and yes, he did quit on the team on his departure leaving a bad taste in everyone's mouth. But he is entertaining and like it or not we don't win a championship without him at the helm. Having such a mope for a manager you can appreciate the calls for someone with some zest like Ozzie. Obviously anything would be better than watching an awful baseball team with a manager who appears he'd rather be chilling in California right now so I get it 100% and if it happened at least it would make White Sox baseball entertaining and relevant again. -
Great quote by Melton: "He's got that great 6 to 12 curveball" That's a first.

No way do they start Sale on the home opener as they will sell that out anyways. I am sure they would like to start him that weekend though so they can get more fans to the second or third games.

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa
JohnCangelosi replied to Rooftop Shots's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 03:50 AM) Any talk of extending Samardizja? Or just letting year play out? I was wondering the same thing. How is this deal worth it just for one year for us? Doesn't seem inline with our long term strategy, or company line anyways. -
Who is going to take over at SS if we trade Alexei?
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 22, 2014 -> 09:25 AM) Mike Moustakas, welcome to Omaha. He's obviously not out of options yes? I would think that would be the case by now.
-
Dare I say it but Gordon Beckham looks as confident at the plate as he did in 2009 and IMO definitely has his swagger back.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ May 20, 2014 -> 10:26 PM) It was obviously not the pitch Flowers thought it was. Knowing Belisario, I'm guessing Ronald is the one who forgot which sign he had No doubt about it he was crossed up. That wasn't my point. Just that Hawk and Stone never mentioned that the pitch was right down the middle of the plate.
-
Speaking of umpiring, it's really embarrassing how many strike calls are missed when a catcher gets crossed up or doesn't catch the ball.
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 20, 2014 -> 10:24 PM) That passed ball was a strike should be 0-2 Exactly. And the announcers completely missed it. The ball was right down the middle of the plate. Almost couldn't be more center cut.

Which Sox are going to be traded this summer?
JohnCangelosi replied to harfman77's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Maybe I am being too sensitive here, but isn't there a concern within the organization of trading away Alexei at this point given the fact that he's a fellow Cuban to our star player now? Not sure if that would affect things at all and if that should even be a concern. Obviously from a business perspective it makes sense to deal Alexei if we can fill a few holes going forward. And yes, I agree there is no way we see Semien as a SS now. The problem is I am not sure if we even have someone remotely ready to take over. I wouldn't be stoked if our starting SS next year was Leury Garcia. That's not progress IMO. -
I'm glad someone looked at this because I was wondering about this. It seems that Tyler has had a LOT of hits where he has caught it off the end of the bat and dunked it into left center field this year. But he's hitting balls a lot harder when he makes contact so that's worth mentioning. But a .600 BABIP? Wow, I didn't think that number was possible. But I also guess it's due to a high K rate as well.

Will Sox be buyers, not sellers, at the trade deadline?
JohnCangelosi replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
A better question is actually what will we have worthwhile of selling at the deadline that is EXPENDABLE? If we are planning on competing in 2015, trading Johnny Danks or Alexei doesn't make sense. It seems that Beckham is a lost cause right now and worth absolutely nothing. I am not sure what we can get for Dunn even if he is able to keep up at this pace at the deadline- it seems most people think the ceiling there is some salary relief and a Leury Garcia ceiling type of player. What other pieces do we have that can result in getting the deals we saw over the offseason where we focused on young, exciting and talented ball players? -
Really impressed with movement and he is hitting 90 MPH with some pretty sick late movement. For 90 MPH that is most impressive to me even though it looks like 86.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2014 -> 08:55 AM) Billy Koch? Yes, he's right up there, but didn't he at least throw a bit harder than Diaz?
-
IIRC Felix Diaz had the straightest fastball in the history of mankind.

Sox @ Tigers, Quintana vs. Scherzer, 4/24, 12:08, CSN
JohnCangelosi replied to LittleHurt05's topic in 2014 Season in Review
Nothing new with Beckham, get him to chase a breaking ball and then just blow him away with the fastball, he can't compete with it. -
Semien will get time at 3B and my guess is they will make sure he at least gets 4 starts a week. He has no business being in AAA at this point and at the same time has no business riding the bench. I don't think the organization looks at Gillespie as anything special so he'll have to take a backseat and expect Marcus to get the majority of the starts there until we can hopefully trade Beckham for someone at the deadline.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 02:46 PM) Actually Adam Dunn will not be "non-tendered" in the offseason. Sorry just meant not offered a contract
