  1. OMG what did Figgins sign for again?? 3 and 30?? I had no idea he was hitting that bad, that is absolutely brutal
  2. I am so sick of seeing that name "Kotsay" in the starting lineup. Ughhhh to me this is just as bad as Andy Gonzalez of 2007 I've had enough
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 12:30 PM) Still not throwing his curve for strikes, if he's throwing it at all. It's such a mistake to just annoint him after a mop-up inning. He did strike someone out looking on a back door breaking ball...but Putz looks just outright nasty these days, he would have closed the door on both of those blown saves I bet
  4. My biggest issue about Hudson is that he seemed to really lack command with the fastball yesterday, and the ball seems to float on him a bit. Of course that can be a good thing with the late movement as long as it's not floating back right over the middle of the plate. The lack of a slider makes him a two pitch pitcher, and right now he lacks the ability to put people away therefore he's making a lot of pitches. Oh well, it's early, and yes, we said the similar things about Danks and Floyd in 2007. Bad thing is we're in a pennant race and cannot afford this nonsense right now.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 03:39 PM) tigers are done with...I'd say Twins are 50 pct likely to win ALC, Sox 40, and Tigers 10 Twins don't have better pitching than us, starters or BP, even without Peavy, IMO, so I still believe we are the favorites. Their O could be much better but we're slowly turning the corner there despite our joke of a situation at DH
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) As long as it's not Putz and Thornton, I don't really care. Hopefully Danks can throw a 2-hitter tomorrow night. Yeah let's throw liney out there for 4 innings and burn out his arm, at least we can get a little value out of the guy. Can't believe we got another year of him as well...
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) Jeez, Peavy's injury was such a killer. Hudson's not ready for the majors...not having a slider makes him just a mediocre pitcher. No wipeout slider really cost Huddy there to Suzuki, we're in a pennant race we cannot afford to be throwing guys out there that need to learn
  8. Hudson is a fastball change pitcher today. No breaking ball??
  9. Isn't one of Huddy's strengths to throw strikes? Seems as if he either has nerves or is trying to nibble too much to me. I didn't see his start in Seattle, however. It's not rare for young pitchers to be a bit afraid of the bat when coming to the big leagues I guess...so let's see
  10. I called for this a few weeks ago, so I'd like to consider myself ahead of my time ;-) But I say yes, it's silly to have him batting 9th. And the argument of don't fix it, it ain't broke is silly because if you believed that you'd have Rios batting 7th because that's where he did on opening day.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) Lineup tomorrow predictions: Pierre, Ramirez, Rios, Konerko, Quentin, Jones, AJP, Viciedo, Beckham Agreed, just bat Becks in the 6 spot and move everyone up one more notch
  12. I am not sure, wanted to see what the experts think on this forum :-)
  13. Do you remember when we would DREAM about getting 1 out of 3 in Oakland?? It was that way not too long ago...let's get the game today however, don't stop
  14. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 06:23 AM) Back when the Sox were struggling many of us were asking what the hell Omar was doing because we saw no improvement in Alexei's game. Now that Omar's been playing a lot (right alongside Alexei), his presence is evident. Not only does Alexei look like a Gold Glover, he makes some of those plays look easy. His range has improved dramatically, and his throws have been on a dime. Let's hope that whatever he's taken from Omar this year he keeps it up. I am totally clueless on this one. Is it Omar's game preparation? Does he whisper secrets in his ear? I mean, really....clearly Alexei is playing great D but can anyone point to anything that Omar does on a daily basis that has helped? Seems like this can be blown out of proportion but you can't argue with results...
  15. I didn't see the game last night as it started at 4 AM my time, however, I assume Kotsay with his 0 for 4 had a few 3 hoppers to second base? Why is he batting in the 6 hole? GB couldn't hit a thing until 2 weeks ago and is already hitting 14 pts higher than him. This is really a joke, the only reason to keep him at #9 is if we're superstitious and think the kid has no mettle which we all know isn't true
  16. His swing is starting to look like last year again. If we see him in the 9 hole again tonight I am going to flip. It's time to get him more at bats during the game and start getting on base for the big boys...or consider putting him in the 6 slot instead of Kotsay...
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 06:49 PM) Problem is I really don't want to see Omar leading off the 9th. Omar shouldn't be in the 2 hole, let's face it. There's a perfect example of why we need GB back there, with his power to be able to hit to the alleys and the right side. It's obvious he's swinging the bat better but no one has the guts to put him back there in our organization (or on this forum it appears). Omar is a perfectly suitable #9 hitter, but long term in the 2 hole we can expect a lot more offensive blues in the second half
  18. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 04:37 PM) If he is hitting, don't mess with him right now. As we learned from Crash Davis in Bull Durham, Don't mess with a winning streak. I understand the approach argument out of what we need out of a 2 hole hitter, that is fair, I just have a gut feeling he's out of it now (and another 2 hits yesterday) and to me it's silly to keep him batting ninth. Put him at 7 at least to where we can get more AB's out of him with runners on base if you don't have the balls to hit him #2 just yet...
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 11:49 AM) If Beckham is killing it in the 9 hole, leave him there. Why f*** with what is working? Ummmmmm probably because he's only getting 3 AB's a game and secondly, do you really think its the 9 HOLE that is making him hit better now? I say nonsense, and would also say that being superstitious about it and just leaving him there (like Ozzie will, and most guys here would because clearly the majority on this board are risk takers) will hurt this team in the second half. When Rios got hot in the 6 or 7 hole at the start of the year should we have just left him there because it was "working"?!?!?!!? That argument is weak, is based on pure superstition, and doesn't hold any water IMO
  20. I think GB is back. I really do, and it's silly to continue to bat him in the 9 hole. Switch him and Omar around sometime in the next week if he continues to prove me right, that he will have a good second half, with over a .300 BA and hit for power again...
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 06:54 AM) Beckham hit .248 in the 2 hole in 2009. 54/247, 9 HR, .782 OPS. He got more at bats there than any place else, but he put up better numbers lower in the order. .326 average, 1.024 OPS in 43 AB's batting 7th, .394 average, .970 OPS in 71 at bats in the 8th spot. Good stuff, but I don't think that had as much to do with the spot where he was batting than the fact of when he started to get hot last year. I think over the course of time any hitter will hit in any position 1-9. In other words does the position they bat in really mean a huge difference in the numbers? My guess is no. The question is when do we want to make a move and try to get him into a spot where we can take advantage his bat getting hotter, which I believe it is (and will) in the second half. I know Ozzie or most on this forum are not risk takers but for me I'd rather take one more shot at it here because I think it could mean a much more intimidating O in the second half, which we will need with JFP down.
  22. Hands down to me was the Rios homer. I still watch it on replay, I loved AAArdsma's reaction immediately after contact was made...
