May 12 Astros @ White Sox 7:10
You have to feel for the concessions workers who rely on tips and theoretically happy/happier fans spending...or not.

Is Vaughn a good enough 1b to rebuild around?
Which means they might as well just go ahead and trade Vaughn/Kopech... which only leaves Cease and Robert of the core.

Fire Rick Hahn
https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2021-22-international-reviews-miami-marlins/ We need to hire all these guys away from the Marlins or get Kim Ng to recruit them to Chicago. Eury Perez 20 years old 27 days debuting today, #10 MiLB prospect Sandy Alcantara, Sixto Sanchez, Jorge Lopez, Jose Fernandez, etc. We haven't had signing classes of 50-60 players out of Latin America if you added up Paddy's entire tenure.

Teams who will be selling...
Who do we like in the Rays' system? They have lost Springs and Rasmussen for the season... and Glasnow just had a setback in his rehab assignment. Giolito and Clevinger most likely to go because JR definitely won't be willing to eat 60-75% of Lynn's salary. But maybe playing for the best team in baseball would present him a second wind to get back into better physical/competitive shape.

YoYo is back, Lenyn back to AAA, Colome cleared to Charlotte
Not when they need to maximize his value for a possible trade.

Nobody ready at AA. Will damage them even more pushing them up too soon.

They should bring Leury back to throw out the first pitch in memory of his GS that ended up costing that ridiculous extension.

White Sox at Royals, 5/11/23
https://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Mike_Gellinger This guy arguably had the most experience in the entire system across a number of unique roles. Pretty sure he had major health issues in 2012 and then again recently…but I would definitely take him over Getz in any capacity. Seems he’s now with ACL White Sox… Arizona Complex League White Sox Manager: Danny González Bench coach/hitting coach: Mike Gellinger

Plus it’s going to take a lot for Anderson or Hendriks to get back anything close to their previous values. Guys like Grandal, Kelly, Graveman, Lopez and Bummer are obvious salary dumps. Lynn absolutely has to be relocated. Clevinger…that’s a really tough one since he might be the #2/3 starter next year and Martin might not be available for most of 2024 if he has TJS. Nevertheless, he might get a better deal elsewhere if he can get the ERA under 4.

They have to trade Giolito. Unless the contenders completely give up on Nola, Urias and Snell, Giolito is the #1 option of all the walk year starters other than Ohtani. But especially if he puts up more 95-97 FB numbers over the next month of starts.

Teams who will be selling...
He might need it if that bullpen and offense with RISP continue to falter…out of a job before Hahn.

2023: MLB news not AL Central-related
6. The best hitter in baseball is … Brent Rooker? Last November, the Royals -- a team that isn’t exactly overflowing with hitters -- waived Rooker, and the A’s picked him up, almost on a whim. The guy who had a total of 10 homers in three seasons for three teams was inserted into the A’s starting lineup, and he has exploded, hitting 10 homers already this year and leading the Majors in both slugging and OPS. He’s coming by it honestly too, with a batting eye that has resulted in a .424 OBP, just one point behind AL leader Matt Chapman. There isn’t a lot going right in Oakland right now, but Rooker, a 28-year-old journeyman, is perhaps the most out-of-nowhere happy story in the sport at this moment. MLB.com

Least likeable team since 2000
Outlier stats usually come with some regression lights flashing, but Lynn for the most part has earned this disastrous line. His expected ERA off batted-ball data is 5.45, which doesn't play in any format. He's allowing the worst hard-hit rate of his career. Also, his velocity is moving in the wrong direction; his average fastball is 92 mph, down from 92.7 and 93.5 the two previous seasons. When a pitcher struggles, you'll hear common explanations. It's mechanical, they might say. We just need to make a few tweaks. That's a standard refrain. That can be true. Perhaps the White Sox can fix Lynn. Maybe Lynn can fix himself. But when does a bad start become a bad season? And what about Lynn's 2022 season comforted you? Bottom line, the guy has made 29 starts since the beginning of last year, and they add up to a 4.93 ERA and 1.26 WHIP. I'm surprised he's still rostered in almost a quarter of Yahoo leagues. Do what you need to do. Just remember this: So often in life (and in fantasy baseball), being afraid to make a mistake is the mistake. If you see something on the wire that catches your interest, you have my sign-off to cut Lynn. Yahoo fantasy sports

Grandal 18th out of 27 in fWAR at catcher Vaughn 23/41 Andrus 29/35 Anderson 23/33 Burger 12/40 Colas 45/49 Robert 8/40 Benintendi 35/47 Jimenez 24/43 Just Burger and Robert. Sosa would make most of the 2007 offense look good.

Payroll down to #12 from #7. Inertia. Robert is still a well above average defender in CF. How many Sox position players are even at least league average or above at this point, overall? Vaughn has decent counting numbers, but isn't a very good defender so far early into his 1B career.

Somewhere between $1.9-2.2 billion...and trending in the wrong direction.

Is Vaughn a good enough 1b to rebuild around?
That's more like Pete Alonso. Not sure if he will ever come close to that profile. The number of guys who average 35-40 bombs per season reliably can be counted on less than two hands across all positions.

Least likeable team since 2000
All the imported relievers... only concerned with pure stuff and not command/control. Owens Fields Wasserman.

Guardians already onto their 8th and 9th starting pitcher. Twins just lost Mahle for the season, but much better minor league depth.

Fire Rick Hahn
White Sox 8 1/2 GB and fourth place Yankees 9 1/2 GB and fifth place That's definitely winning to JR.

Fire Rick Hahn
Williams at this stage in his life and marriage isn't going to have the energy to accomplish that...he's already pretty much on the outside looking in and reflecting back. KW more than anyone knows from watching Hahn's experience that the money for the "finishing pieces" is not going to be there once he gets back up into the $170-200 million payroll range. He also knows the ONLY time the White Sox truly succeeded in 2005 requiring hit nearly every of a series of about 8-10 moves right on the nose...as well as the three players he dumped to free up all that payroll space to reallocate it. The Sox over the last decade have been fortunate to see success with roughly 25-30% of their moves. He would have to double or triple that ratio, without Eaton/Sale/Q and the NY Yankees trade to jump start another rebuild. Unless he is willing to trade Robert and/or Cease, Tim Anderson or Giolito would be worth the equivalent of that deal Hahn made with NY that went so poorly in terms of the acquired prospects panning out.
-
Do the White Sox have too much starting pitching?
The irony there is that both Dunning and Cease have actually done pretty well since that point in time, but the front office, fans and Renteria had no confidence in either...and then Renteria was 6 months too early having confidence in Carlos Rodon in a key relief role.

Assistant GM's normally should know more about talent evaluation and scouting. That's apparently not a strength of either Haber or Hahn, who are (supposedly) good at negotiating advantageous contracts but not so much with this second/third wave generation of players like Giolito, Cease, Kopech, Vaughn, etc. (Or JR simply refuses to give ANY pitcher more than three years from now based upon the Danks Experience.) KW and Paddy are the best talent judges in the organization now...along with Shirley. Not sure about pro/advance scouting, to be honest.
