  1. They have the high-stepping and pop ups in common I guess...not sure if Josh can handle all the push-ups.
  2. What contract extension do the Sox offer and how likely does that second one (see Lynn) turn out to be a net-end positive?
  3. In November, Tatis opted out of having shoulder surgery. His decision, which was made after consultation with doctors and people close to him, was against the wishes of the Padres. “Not surprised at all,” said one person around the team at the time. “He does what he wants.” That might have been an exaggeration, but Tatis had developed quite a reputation. As Athletics reported after his infamous confrontation with Manny Machado in September, some in the Padres department believed Tatis’ frustration stemmed from the mounting pressure he felt as the club’s playoff chances and his own MVP candidacy slipped away. Others said the then 22-year-old could be immature and occasionally ranting, adding that his energy — positive and negative — was contagious. There were people in the organization who said such behavior was not new, suggesting the Padres had given Tati special treatment throughout his time in the minor leagues. ... Last offseason, the major-league lockout resulted in a loss of direct communication. But the Padres’ diligence was called into question after the rough timeline of Tatis’ wrist injury was revealed. After reports of a motorcycle spill, the team, apparently satisfied with assurances from third parties, did not send doctors to the Dominican Republic to examine Tatis. A three-month delay between his first injury and his wrist surgery meant he had to endure a slower recovery. The Padres tried to be cautious about that process, but in June, Tatis was seen at Petco Park swinging in an indoor batting cage. Team officials were caught off guard. Some later acknowledged that Tatis had started taking unauthorized swings, albeit light ones, even earlier than that. Still, his return from injury continued at what sometimes felt like a snail’s pace; Tatis did not begin a rehab assignment until this past weekend. It did not last long. Friday’s stunning revelation did not paint anyone in a positive light. Tatis had been busted for gross negligence at best or fraud and dishonesty at worst. If the Padres fail to make the postseason, he will end up missing more than half of his first 578 opportunities to play a major-league regular-season game. The team, meanwhile, has suffered a thorough embarrassment just 18 months after characterizing Tatis’ extension as a slam dunk. Preller has long prided himself on knowing the lineup of players, but his most prized asset has joined James Shields, Wil Myers and Eric Hosmer on a list of questionable contracts. https://aumag.net/fernando-tatis-jr-has-a-lot-to-learn-and-so-do-the-padres-after-another-big-contract-gone-awry/
  4. Why did the Sox acquire him if that's now/retroactively being held against him?
  5. https://www.facebook.com/daniel.fernandotatis.5/about He's a catcher right now from all indications...hard to find much information about him. https://celebs.infoseemedia.com/fernando-tatis-jr/fernando-tatis-jr-brother-daniel-fernando-tatis/

  7. Blame Wheeler's wife/fiance again. Has Hahn tried that yet? Who else could we have signed? But he was Top Five in the 2020 Cy Young voting!!!
  8. Skittles? Oh that's taste the flavors or rainbow or whatever.
  9. Probably all thinking...how sure are we that Seby Zavala is actually going to keep hitting without his defense simultaneously coming back to hurt the club?
  10. Guardians have just 18 remaining road games. Crazy the way that worked out. AJ Hinch just had a rookie face Jose Ramirez with two outs and a runner at third...laced it to the base of RF wall. Gusty call. Another rookie pitcher for CLE starting, Chef Curry. MLB debut. That's 14 at least this year. Ties club record from 1920s or 30s. Five rookie starters most since 2002 or 2012. 1-0 Tigers top of the 1st Also Loan Depot Stadium in Miami might actually be more embarrassing than Guaranteed Rate Field...maybe.
  11. The big question is why is Melanie Hobson content so far to watch her investment of hundreds of millions into the Sox founder on the rocks?
  12. Pretty pathetic the Red Sox were trading away at least 3 pieces at the deadline but still seem more like they want to win...and with all the forward-looking uncertainty about Sale Bogaerts Eovaldi Martinez Verdugo, etc. Abreu Cueto Keuchel McGuire Who else has questioned team/individual work ethic besides Stone?
  13. https://www.yahoo.com/now/despite-sting-losing-vazquez-sox-111800232.html "Obviously the events that led to him getting here hurt, we lost Vazqy, a guy who's been here for 15 years, but looking forward from that moment, Reese fits us perfectly," Arroyo said. "He's a good baseball player, he's got a good IQ when it comes to the game and he fits in great with our guys and in our clubhouse. He's been a very welcome addition." On coach Jason Varitek "He's one of the hardest working coaches I've seen and I've only been here a week and a half," McGuire said. "Like today I saw him on the treadmill with his iPad in hand marking up some things as he's doing his conditioning, so when I saw that today I kind of smiled, like man I'm in a good place. Tek's been nothing but amazing for me and I really look forward to working with him more." Full quotes "It's nice to join a club that wants to win and is hungry to win and be better and show up to the ballpark looking for ways to get better," he continued. "We've got two months of baseball left and the way we look at it we hope we have three months of baseball left."
  14. The best way is to get rid of one of the players who most consistently gave his all, especially on defense?
  15. TLR and ACE go together like ______ and ________. Let's not traumatize the kids at least.
  16. Not trading Rosario just to save money with one year until FA was huge. Same with holding onto Civale and Plesac.
  17. But the Sox need arguably their greatest offseason since 2004-05. Odds of executing that with LaRussa involved? Or Hahn?
  18. You have more patience than 98% of owners. Pretty sure not the best time to dump Jimenez, though.
  19. Terry Francona apparently not good enough when you have Terry Bevington in waiting for Lamont. "After retiring as a player, Francona began coaching, spending several years in the Chicago White Sox organization. In 1991, he managed the rookie league Sarasota White Sox of the Gulf Coast League. In 1992, he ran the South Bend White Sox of the mid-level Class A Midwest League. As manager of the AA franchise Birmingham Barons in 1993–95, he posted a 223–203 record and won two distinctions: Southern League Manager of the Year in 1993, Baseball America's Minor League Manager of the Year in 1993, and top managerial candidate by Baseball America in 1994, the same year Michael Jordan played for Birmingham. Birmingham won the Southern League championship in 1993. He managed in the Dominican Winter League with the Águilas Cibaeñas, and he also won the championship and the Serie del Caribe in 1995–96. That team included Miguel Tejada, Manny Ramirez, and Tony Batista. Francona became third-base coach for the Detroit Tigers in 1996,[9] working under their new skipper, Buddy Bell, a former teammate of Francona on the Reds." wikipedia.com Of course, they had another chance to bring back Francona after he parted ways with the Red Sox. Essenually, the White Sox got screwed twice over.
  20. See Palka/Delmonico/Alonso/Eaton/Mazara. Rinse/repeat.
  21. Realistically, we needed Foster more but both Matt and Jose Ruiz have turned back into pumpkins.
  22. Good luck with that. But yeah, Cleveland, has three more with a wilting Tigers’ team and they’re at 9 games over now. High water mark. Pretty sure Twins got to 11 games over a couple times this year.
  23. For instance, Rays went something like 17-2 against Balt last year. This year, Orioles giving everyone a HUGE battle. Tale of two teams. And the Tigers did play quite well the last 6-8 weeks last season. Recently, Detroit has had just four homers in their last 16 or 17 games. Including three games at GRF.
