Obviously the Sox can't figure out the right buttons to push. It would be easier if it was vision oriented or something off field like Dunn in 2011. As it stands, they are 7-10 days from having to replace him with Burger.

Benintendi was the other target but so beloved then he was simply un tradable then...no way to remove him from a WS contending roster.
-
Jimenez a potentially MVP quality hitter...but never going to be a well rounded player with all of his value coming from offense. But yeah, Moncada was/is key. Grandal Pollock Leury can't be compensated for by Abreu/Robert/Vaughn and the defense.

I would take a free flier on LBJ and just hope for a hot streak. Feels more likely than Engel going on a tear. But not by much. -
That was right in the middle of pennant race pressure as a rookie...they quickly reduced he wasn't ready. Way too many K's as would become obvious the next two seasons with the Sox.

https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-teams-2022-postseason-urgency-rankings Little bit surprisingly, Sox are still middle if the pack here too. Top 3 are quite obvious, then it gets murkier. Guardians 14th. Pretty pathetic for the Central that 2/3 contenders almost completely blew off the trade deadline or actually subtracted and gave another experienced catcher to the first place team in Leon. "This is a team with a ton of talent in its prime, an owner who wants to win right now, a farm system that isn’t producing a ton of future talent, a division that isn’t particularly terrifying and a manager who, well, likely isn’t thinking about how his team’s going to be doing in 2030. That’s to say: The time is now. For all their headaches this year, the White Sox are only three games out of the AL Wild Card and in the AL Central, which means everything they wanted out of this season is still in front of them. But if they fall short this year … there is going to be a pretty huge reckoning on the South Side."
