**Movies that we Watch** Thread
A lot of critics are ruing the absence of someone portraying Michael Jordan, but I think the absence of him forces the focus on the other members of the cast, like Bateman, Deloris Jordan, Falk, etc. Seeing those names on the draft board brought back memories, especially Dinner Bell Mel Turpin. Easy to forget Stockton and Barkley were in that class as well as Hakeem of course. Wasn't a huge fan of Chris Tucker's casting, but he was fine all in all. Everyone who grew up in the 80's will appreciate the soundtrack and plethora of product placements.

Haber or Getz two most likely... no strong or compelling arguments for either.

Solid bump/jump from 1.6 to 2 million 2021 to 2022. Result of two disappointing playoff appearances but at least they made the postseason as promised. Will now see a fall to as low as 1.4 to 1.6 million this year if the wheels totally fall off. Fans treated terribly this entire offseason.

They've got MUCH bigger problems than that to deal with for the moment... the media is already turning on the team and giving up hope just two weeks into the season. And the truly challenging part of the schedule hasn't even arrived.

Mike Clevinger questioned about walkout song before home debut
"Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means 'a whale's vagina'. I love scotch. Scotchy scotch scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly." Ron Burgundy

Disproving the any publicity is good publicity maxim...the mods have almost completely disappeared. Feels like everyone is just resigned to another summer of benign neglect and indifference/apathy/malaise from their favorite team and sport...one that used to provide so much joy and so many memories in their youth. Answering the question of how to allocate that time more productively.. as well.

4-16 GT: Orioles at Sox (1:10pm) - Delayed til 3:30
“You guys always hear from the most negative fans,” he told reporters before the Orioles series began. “The fans I talk to never come up to me and say, ‘Rick, this is the start of just the same stuff as last year.’ They seem to seek you guys out in the comments sections. Imagine that.” Need to keep repeating this quote over and over again. Negativity and not performance has been the leading cause of organizational problems. Michael Jordan would just use that as additional motivation to become even better. "What, my jump shot is too flat? That's the best you've got? Really?" To Hahn it's all yet another convenient excuse. Just zero accountability and sense of connection to the fans who make his cushy and sheltered life possible.

That their payroll was essentially capped despite 2 million in attendance recorded last year. Practically guaranteeing it would shrink back down to 1.4-1.6 million again this year with a non competitive, difficult to watch product on the field. Not supplementing it with anything beyond Abreu/Liam - Benintendi/Clevinger means at best they are hanging around .500 and at worst totally imploding.

Nothing to lose but time/opportunity cost.

4-16 GT: Orioles at Sox (1:10pm) - Delayed til 3:30
This current version is a 3-4.5 fWAR well above average MLB CFer but far from a superstar/Trout Jr. Half of that fWAR will come from defense alone. He's basically Mike Cameron, which is far from terrible but not good enough either to move the meter. Heck two true/genuine superstars and Rendon isn't enough for the Angels to break through.

4-16 GT: Orioles at Sox (1:10pm) - Delayed til 3:30
Sounds a LOT like 2004-2008 Ozzie Guillen...if you strip away the difficult to discern accent and political incorrectness. Too bad we never got to see Terry Francona provided with a real opportunity to put his own imprint on the organization. Old school managers like Bochy and Melvin and Showalter still can succeed...but (Francona) has learned how to deal with modern-day athletes and especially his Latin American players better than almost anyone. (That said, the Guardians' pixie dust isn't as strong early this year, their bullpen has been a net weakness.)

It's certainly not going to help the perception of the team with female fans, that's for sure. Then you have the whole Anderson mess as well.

Someone like the Giants with nothing to lose and lots of financial flexibility because of missing out on so many first tier FA targets and then the whole Correa mess. In a way, Michael Conforto is basically the equivalent of their Jimenez already.

This team is going to lose 90 plus games...
13,794 was the attendance yesterday/this morning in China. Despite ALL the disasters of the past two years, the Sox fans are/were still supporting the team, because they've got a respectable number of season ticket holders sadomasochistic-ally hanging in there. Well over 32,000 when the weather was beautiful on Saturday. Actually 17th in MLB attendance, the top of the lower "tier" between the successful and largely unsuccessful teams at the gate. But it would be shocking if they didn't settle somewhere in between 22-26 by the end of the season if these trends from the first two weeks all continue...especially with the brutal schedule and unpredictable April/May weather.

At this point, I'm willing to turn everything over to Paddy and just throw everything into international. You can also bet I would throw money at extensive scouting in Taiwan, Korea and Japan as well. Our DR pipeline that was ruptured by KW/Wilder has never been put back together after well over a decade. Time to actually fix that situation once and for all if they want to be a viable franchise moving forward, because the vaunted Cuban Connection is finally drying out.

Padres Thread 2023
https://www.milb.com/player/fernando-tatis-jr-665487 Tatis seven homers in 33 at bats. Back next Sun. Sleepwalking Padres and Dodgers both average teams in early going. Both need a jolt of electricity. https://www.milb.com/video/fernando-tatis-jr-s-six-homers?t=playerid-665487 Already beat Benintendi's projected season total in less than one week. https://www.mlb.com/news/fernando-tatis-jr-works-out-with-padres-before-return-to-games Returning Thurs vs. DBacks.

Yet that hasn't screwed over Rays Guardians Brewers Rays Orioles... it's the character and competitiveness/sense of pride in the players you target.

Still paying Kimbrel lol? Pretty soon Ruiz/Diekman list of salaries to players not on the roster will be higher. Obviously Hendriks not at the back end makes a massive difference because roles and expectations become unsettled and unpredictable... most relievers prefer order and established roles but that's impossible with this collection current occupying the pen.

He's a survivor/politician give him that much. That said, hard to get fired by Sox unless you're a completely useless front office exec undesired by other team...then you simply get reassigned disappeared within org but keep drawing checks regardless.
