  1. KC and the Guardians without two Sox killers are one thing...winning out on the road and beating the Angels will prove a much tougher challenge. Would feel much more confident if the division lead was just five games by Minny (blown final game of that series)... but it's more the divisional weakness of a -9 to 11 games under .500 that provides hope, or maybe false hope. We will see. Sweeping a series here seems critical.
  2. 7 games back is going to mean they're not going to trade the likes of Giolito and Kelly. Can pretty much forget the WC...so upcoming at CLE, at DET, LAA and DET at home will determine the course of the season. Won't have the good fortune of missing Naylor and Ramirez next week. 23,984
  3. Not sure why they didn't IL Grandal when he's going to end up missing at least 5/6 games and Zavala is basically useless this season. Saving money on flights?
  4. The argument there was always something like Jose Valentin vs. Royce Clayton. Jose got to everything and also had a Top 3-5 infield arm in the majors. Clayton rarely made errors but limited range when with the Sox.
  5. https://www.mlb.com/news/best-offseason-acquisitions-2023 Masataka Yoshida (Red Sox) How acquired: Signed from NPB's Orix Buffaloes via posting system (5 years, $90 million) “Yoshida was an elite contact hitter and on-base machine in Japan; now he's an elite contact hitter and on-base machine in MLB. The lefty-swinging outfielder is one of nine qualified hitters with more walks than strikeouts this season. Yoshida is a top 25 hitter by batting average (.299) and on-base percentage (.378), and a top 40 hitter by slugging percentage (.493) and OPS (.871). What a great signing. Maybe he'll even be a dark-horse MVP candidate.” The likes of Gallo, Eeovaldi (vs. Clevinger), Rooker and Arraez listed. Two ex Twins and one incoming. KC the last team to roster Rooker prior to Oakland.
  6. Great, we can wait for Benintendi's deal to die out in 2027... then really fix this thing.
  7. Not spelling it out White Sox will be the jinx for this one...
  8. A ball he juggled doesn't exactly prove anything, because the White Sox still need a 3B in 2025. Maybe Burger maybe Montgomery maybe Ramos or someone else...but that play matters more to teams looking to acquire him than anything related to the Sox.
  9. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/chicago-bulls-done-big-3-110016235.html Bulls looking at a rebuild... sounds familiar.
  10. By fWAR, 70th out of 73 qualified MLB starters at -0.2. Sox killer Jordan Lyles and Manoah two of three behind him. Giolito 21st, Cease 43.
  11. https://www.gaslampball.com/2023/5/19/23727291/game-45-san-diego-padres-vs-boston-red-sox#comments Padres' fans have already turned on Adam Engel lol...one player who definitely isn't improving away from Chicago.
  12. Well trading him now makes no sense...but the timing to rebuild the rotation going into 2024 and then again 2-3 years from now is really suboptimal. That's simply because every year you wait things out with Cease and Kopech decreases their trade value pretty dramatically. Giolito is arguably #5 on the current FA list. Urias and especially Snell have been bad. Nola's the only other guy and he might be just as risky as Lucas because his price will be even higher based on his more recent success coming into 2023.
  13. Last in the AL East...Toronto and Boston tied for fourth at 25-20...would put them at first by 1/2 game over the Twins in the Central. All four Central teams other than Minny with negative RS/RA differentials. Oakland at -165 the only other AL team in negative territory. As a result of tonight's final, Sox passed KC for 28th in RS/RA lol... -61 to -64. Great game by Kopech... and Graveman.
  14. The problem now is the limited control over Cease and Kopech if they go into another rebuild...they can hardly not that with how bad the division is, though. It also risks getting limited ROI when they're holding onto some of these vets due in pinning their hopes on the top three Central teams falling back to them.
  15. Can't teach that arm strength from Witt Jr.
  16. Bradley should get pulled off the field for that... or just his sub 500 ops.
  17. Greinke just has a much higher baseball IQ...you have to compensate in other areas when your raw stuff is 75% gone. Anticipation... envisioning a play before it happens having seen everything in the sport. Still a very good athlete, as well.
  18. When combined with Anderson not hitting...it's brutal. Maybe we can sign Rick Rhoden, because some pitchers could definitely out hit our bottom guys.
  19. Hahn and Boyer should be quite proud CLE and TB are drawing better this year. Nobody can or should be shocked with this reaction from Sox fans... at all.
  20. Tigers will be only two games under .500 if scores hold up.
  21. Angels should always be counter example... minus Trout and Rendon deals.
  22. Because nothing is actually expected out of Sheets in RF and base running except don't do dumb things and don't get hurt or injure Luis Robert or the 2b. And 2b has nowhere to go but up anyway. Just had a quite relevant example with that pop-up.
  23. Remember when Doxier almost killed Abreu running down the 1B line? And . 444 lifetime average for Massey against Sox lol.
  24. New Sox motto for all young prospects... high bar to get over.
