Rebuild Time
Except negotiating with Lucas TA7 Cease Kopech isn't nearly as easy as those original team friendly overtures. And Vaughn over half the fan base would be against a long term deal. Just like other division teams couldn't get Berrios and Guardians now with Bieber. Worked out better for Minny... arguably.

2023 AL Central Division Thread
4. Twins (11-7 record, 1st in AL Central) "What’s different: Pitching. After posting a 3.98 ERA and 22.1 strikeout rate in 2022, Twins pitchers have the second-lowest ERA (2.69) and lead the Majors with a 29.1 strikeout rate in 2023. Pablo López, Sonny Gray and Joe Ryan have been a three-headed rotation monster while the bullpen has the fifth-lowest ERA (2.77). Challenge ahead: Keeping Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa healthy. It’s no secret that those two players are the driving star-level players the Twins need to get back to the playoffs. To their credit, the Twins have gotten off to this strong start despite both of them performing well below their career norms so far. Why it can stick: Their pitching looks legit and sustainable. López has a sizable velocity bump and a filthy new sweeper. Gray is bombarding opposing hitters with nasty breaking balls. Ryan’s new splitter has perfectly complemented his fastball and sweeper. Jhoan Duran and Jorge López have headlined a deep and dominant bullpen." mlb.com

Maeda's probably due to an IL trip after getting drilled on the ankle.

This team is going to lose 90 plus games...
Detroit is playing quite well the last week after a terrible start...and KC for whatever reason the last couple of decades has played the Sox tougher than expected, starting down the stretch in 2005.

Rodon turned out much better than Tyler Kolek and Brady Aiken...

“Scouts like Tatis Jr.’s swing, his strong arm and his fluid actions on defense. He’s shown decent arm strength and raw power to his pull side. Tatis Jr.’s knack for barreling up balls and his repeatable swing have also impressed evaluators.” Jeff Buchanan of FutureSox wrote, “Tatis clearly doesn’t have the same upside as [White Sox top 2015 international signing] Franklin Reyes, but his well-rounded skillset, high baseball IQ and professional mentality mean he likely comes with less risk than Reyes and is a better bet to maximize his potential as a possible everyday player.” https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/04/how-did-the-white-sox-trade-fernando-tatis-jr.html

Shirley hasn't had quite enough time but at least he's a legit outsider and thus much more likely to be honest/objective.

2023: MLB news not AL Central-related
https://m.lasvegassun.com/news/2023/apr/19/oakland-as-agree-to-buy-land-for-stadium-in-las-ve/ 2027 would be their (proposed) first season in Vegas. Four long years to go. Now they have to deal with two more expansion teams. Rays and Marlins probably the two biggest headaches for baseball...seems for the moment KC Cincy and Pittsburgh are barely hanging in there. Cincy and KC are great baseball cities when their teams are winning/competitive, and do quite well in terms of local TV ratings in those smaller markets.

General Managet
Dunn was KW. First Hahn deal was Jeff Keppinger.

They scouted Fulmer constantly and totally missed on his Vandy teammate Buehler...

Padres Thread 2023
The REAL QUESTION is does ownership finally impose some accountability and REMOVE a guy who is not real great at his job/. We have been watching this slow-motion train wreck that has gone on with all sorts of 'different 'plans go on for 8 years now. We have seen several trade where way too much was given up. We waited years to accumulate and start development of prospects only to have them all shipped out for WAY TOO little value. Giving up 4 blue chip prospects for 2 years of Soto was Cray Cray bad. GM malpractice thumb_up1reply share flag remove chipperstein 2 days ago reply In reply to Akat A playoff appearance with keep him around for another year The Soto trade was made by preller was a desperation attempt at a WS victory and some job security that would have with it It was a longshot and preller himself is starting to realize that his tenure here is winding down, with the reality that not making the playoffs this season will be the catalyst for his dismissal Ownership needs to reign Preller in and not allow him to make any more of those type trades,, trades that are designed for the short term aggrandizement of preller to try to stay around another year or two The ornerwship was bamboozed by this guy for far too long thumb_upreply share flag remove RayFriar 2 days ago reply In reply to Akat 8 years and 8 months. We’ve seen … Three, arguably four, organizational resets (aka “house cleanings”); wiping out a pretty good farm, rebuilding it, wiping it out again; two suspensions by MLB and a team fine for breaking international scouting rules; losing Luis Castillo because he was about to be suspended for keeping two sets of medical records … And that’s without even mentioning any of his questionable trades and signings, roster construction issues, or interference with managers and lineups. “GM malpractice” is putting it lightly.

Padres Thread 2023
https://www.gaslampball.com/2023/4/18/23687591/san-diego-fernando-tatis-jr-rejoining-padres Padres' fans already want to run Preller out of town on a rail after the team went 2-7 and 1.5 games behind LAD... 1/2 game out of first as Musgrove and Tatis finally return this weekend. James Wood is the best prospect in baseball and will one day eclipse Soto (wouldn't trade Wood for Sosa just one for one, lol). Mackenzie Gore will win the Cy Young some day and Robert Hassell will be a stud as well. Juan Soto only wants to walk and complain about the pitch clock. Not fun to follow prospects when he trades all of them away. Doesn't have a good enough pitching staff to win the WS. Hader is too shaky and his best days are behind him. Made the worst trade in. baseball history for "Sunshine" Clevinger. Was an idiot for letting Ty France and Hunter Renfroe go... "One specific thing about your comment that intrigued me was your statement about Preller misguiding ownership. I won't go as far as to call him a loser. Definitely a Rangerphile. But I've long called him things like used car salesman, snake oil salesman, jedi (as in user of the jedi mind trick), and Jafar. That guy from Aladdin, you're asking yourself? Yes, that guy from Aladdin that most importantly carries around a snake staff that hypnotizes people. Because there is really no logical explanation on how Preller has not been fired given how many times he has Amber Hearded the bed during his tenure. Look into the eyes of my snake staff Peter, pay no attention to my roster management. Petco Park tonight will feature a team I absolutely think has gotten it right as far as how to build a roster that can compete to win multiple championships. Unfortunately, that team is the visiting Atlanta Braves. The good news for Padres fans is that anybody can beat anybody else in a short series in October. But of course you have to get there first."

Mid Life Career Change
We have AP IB and British A Levels external curriculum in our school... about 75-95 admitted to Illinois Purdue UCSB UC Davis UCI UCSD per year out of 475. Twenty for Oxford and Cambridge etc. I needed a break from non profit burnout... always enjoyed tutoring, had those typical liberal arts interests from family and loved the travel possibilities. Just bought an apartment here for around $375k in a 53 floor building... only two bedrooms one bath under 100 square meters... but perfect city location on subway near city center/shopping district. That's how distorted home prices are in even second tier Chinese cities. That relatively small apartment would cost 2-3x as much in Shanghai Beijing or Hong Kong/Shenzhen/Guangzhou.

Can he sue the ump if he loses 1/16th of his wages for a ten game suspension? That's a massive amount of coin now with some of these elite pitching contracts.
