Do You Still Believe in This Group Of Players?
caulfield12 replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Robert is the only one with HoF potential, but not with his current non-selective hitting approach and 10-15% reduction in speed...whether it's coached or he's just being tentative but he was much better the second half last year than this year's version. So hoping it's more psychological than physical. It certainly is with how he approaches the wall when going back on balls. Nothing like his 2020 form filled with numerous highlight reel plays. Tim Anderson's the only other player on the roster on that category, with the caveat that another five plus years of productivity at SS would start to merit legit consideration. -
Guillen joined the Marlins in 2012. LaRussa left the Cards after WS victory in 2011.
-
Well, at least since the trade deadline less than a year ago...that's when things really started to feel dysfunctional with so many questions about who was actually responsible for the various moves.
-
Does anyone really care THAT much about AJ Pollock this season to bury someone over whether he's actually better than - .1 -.2 -.3 fWAR? His defense/arm alone in LF has been unacceptable, and lack of home runs a killer.
-
Naylor game at home. GS in 9th 3 run in 11th. 8 total for game. Pretty sure we have blown at least one more six run lead...
-
When is the last time KW has said anything about the White Sox for public consumption? Does anyone remember? Circumstances?
-
Then Pollock will be provided as the reason they're not going after a big name in FA, or Oscar Colas. Rinse. Repeat. Pretty sure that Kimbrel buyout was just $1 million, too. Would have to double check at spotrac.com.
-
How do you make major personnel moves without first determining if those players would respond better to a different voice, like in Philly? Then there's the 50/50 possibility things continue to go south, like with the LA Angels situation...a swing of nearly twenty games overall above to below .500. At least then you know.
-
And at least half his extended family would get jobs in production and sound editing.
-
Dan Gable...if TLR is in a movie, he definitely needs at least one contemporary of a similar age and philosophical outlook.
-
Heck, at his point, he probably would talk in unfiltered fashion for at least thirty minutes to a volunteer SoxTalk or The Daily Northwestern reporter.
-
The last 2-3 weeks. At the beginning of the year it was his focus defensively. Recently, hitting in general...but specifically with RISP. That said Anderson with his lack of walks and huge power numbers is a max 850-875 ops touching 900 type of player.

Harrison is one of the few players who really seems to care about winning. Maybe they're saying his actions and play don't match. Pollock has never seemed to be a good fit. At best his body language this year has mostly been indifferent. And who does Pollock usually hang out with in the dugout? Vaughn? Sheets?
-
That might be more of a jealousy issue...like the YouTube series, the way he's seemingly leading his personal life, etc. Remember all the whispers about Madrigal and how he didn't fit in and rubbed many the wrong way? So it's definitely not an overtly Christian-oriented clubhouse like the Royals have had during the Dayton Moore Era.
-
Who are the three most underperforming players based on expectations entering the season? Which players seems to consistently be going through the motions or demonstrating a fundamental lack of awareness both on offense and defense? You could answer TA or Leury...but there are plausible explanations for them, as well as for Pollock.
-
And that's the primary weakness of the Dodgers still with Kimbrel ineffective and Hudson out. Of course bringing back Kenley wouldn't have saved them either, but the Braves have a lot more pitching depth to cover for him.
-
The most obvious clique is the Moncada/Grandal/Robert one...
-
Sounds more like an Ozzie tactic. Maybe that he's the better choice as manager?
-
Not the way the Sox draft. Name someone from the past decade in supplemental or second/third round with that the Sox have successfully drafted and developed.
-
Otoh 2-5 would have been disastrous. Sox fanship this year like a Titanic steerage ticket.
-
The argument about Hendriks all centers on his batty contract, tax implications, etc. But if you want to look at "minor" trades, look at Adames last year and the Mariners going 11-1 after acquiring Carlos Santana, and 16 out of their last 19. He just won the third game in less than a week with another go-ahead homer.

This game is so bad that Dunning vs. Buxton might be more interesting…
-
Was that the first year of Cabrera/LaRoche and then the Shark as well? Where the main consolation was not extending Samardzija? 2011 wasn’t much fun with Dunn’s collapse and Guillen/Buehrle departing, either. All those odd numbered years, 2007, 2009…
-
Abysmal game to watch so far. Sheets might be the only positive. Unless you call pitching in pain by Kopech somehow good.
-
Really good job by Harrison.
