  1. Franco got a huge payday/extension. You have to pay up for star quality young position player talent to convince the fanbase you're not going to just dump them at the earliest opportunity. Otoh, distinguishing that Austin Meadows is not a star and can be leveraged for more cost-efficient youngsters. (They tried to do the exact same thing with Snell and Glasnow until he got hurt.)
  2. It has worked out extremely well for the Guardians ever since the late 90's. They were the organization the Sox attempted to copy in terms of a blueprint for sustained success.
  3. You only need to look at the numbers on the back of the baseball card to know challenging him when he's in the process of breaking out of a cold streak is ill-advised. Don't need that evidence provided by that one swing to confirm.

There has to be a Josh Donaldson-esque fall guy in that scenario. Moncada? Grandal? Lynn? Giolito? Kelly? All seem lacking in some way. But Abreu would be the equivalent of Nelson Cruz. Only legit "Buxton" bargain extension candidates are Vaughn and Cease. AV probably wants out and to go back to 1B as well.
  5. He wanted to see if Martin could handle the challenge? Learning experience, etc. Sets him up to better handle that same situation in 2023.
  6. Not to mention letting Terry Francona, Jim Leyland and Dombrowski all go.
  7. And the Twins get the Brewers, which has never been an easy matchup for them in recent years, either.
  8. Glad I just woke up while on vacation and didn't have to suffer along with another offensive apocalypse. Well, there's always GM 2. Sox are fortunate these games are on the road or the atmosphere would be getting even uglier than it already is.
  9. I guess the only way to have any evidence is a complete implosion leading to a firing. The problem then will be assessing how meaningful it actually is with the team out of contention and just playing out the season as quickly as possible. The overall negative influence TLR exerts on the team right now is simply stronger than one hitting coaches' determination to overcome all of that dysfunctionality.
  10. The White Sox are known across the league for their proactivity. You can pretty much count on them to do the opposite of whatever conventional wisdom dictates just to prove they know better.
  11. .240, 741 ops (which actually sounds decent this year), 36 career homers in 1257 at-bats, or about 9 per year, 200 walks, 279 k’s Menechino’s career numbers https://www.silive.com/mets/2019/04/just-sayin-marlins-were-too-premature-in-letting-frank-menechino-walk.html Inability to fix Lewis Brinson an issue for his successor Mike Pagliarulo, ofc Luis Robert was once famously comped with Brinson during his rookie year to the consternation and befuddlement of Sox fans.
  12. Maybe the goal all along was to make the team so unlikeable and expensive that the majority of Sox fans would (eventually) start to become more open-minded to yet another highly profitable rebuilding period…?
  13. I'm sure that not going 100% unless you don't have to is either coming from the front office or training staff...but most likely they are both coordinating in order to preserve as much of the active roster as possible. Seems to neither total opposite of old school baseball TLR is supposedly associated with.
  14. Far too late to change an entire team's offensive approach mid-season.
  15. I think it was something like 85-90% against, 10-15% in favor. And that's being generous...probably went down even more after the DUI revelations.
  16. Don't think that gets you even to 12,500 without significant discounting in price and a pledge not to slash payroll below $150 million...let alone another rebuild.
  17. We already did the longer losing streaks twice and one long winning streak.
  18. Francona wants to step on their throats. Sox would never do same with Hendriks.
  19. The difference is Eloy has two years of guaranteed money, not an arbitration year.
  20. Guardians' pen has to be in the $5-7.5 million range total.
  21. Padres made a big mistake letting him go...deal for Clevinger one of the ten worst of the last 3-5 years.
  22. Not even the Thor director's sense of humor and Guns 'N Roses tunes?
