  1. Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts could do little to counteract Houston Astros left-handers Bennett Sousa and Bryan King in the seventh and eighth innings of Sunday’s 5-1 loss. Three of Roberts’ four right-handed hitting reserves — Teoscar Hernández, Kiké Hernández and switch-hitter Tommy Edman — were unavailable because of minor injuries, which could force the Dodgers to make a roster move to bolster their bench depth before Monday night’s series opener at Milwaukee. That forced left fielder Michael Conforto, second baseman Hyeseong Kim and catcher Dalton Rushing, all lefties, to bat against Sousa and King, who threw scoreless innings to help the Astros sweep a three-game series in Dodger Stadium for the first time since 2008. yahoo.com/sports
  2. Probably how every legit big league team feels visiting any AL Central city other than Detroit…which isn't exactly Miami, Las Vegas or So Cal. Remember Cora’s quote about GRate/Chicago being a shithole?
  3. Montgomery, Braden…all the way down to a 754 ops at High A.
  4. One need for every team at the deadline... White Sox: Shortstop This choice seems a bit interesting with Colson Montgomery, the No. 5 White Sox prospect per MLB Pipeline, making his triumphant debut at shortstop this past weekend in Colorado, and with rookie Chase Meidroth already having played 56 Major League games at the spot. There also are talented options such as Caleb Bonemer (No. 9 White Sox prospect) within the system. But general manager Chris Getz has talked about strength up the middle for his developing team and the best athletes often are at the shortstop position. Overall, the White Sox are looking for young talent to continue strengthening their core. -- Scott Merkin mlb.com
  5. Let's give Montgomery at least ten days....one huge positive is getting him with five hits on the books quickly, so not having to worry about another sub 200 BA on the scoreboard.
  6. 103 ev…85.2 mph high hanging slider by Yamamoto, All Star knocked out of the game in the first.
  7. That would be a huge jump. Never thought even Jays fans could make that much noise in Chicago but tons come down for the shopping/tourism experience…
  8. Montgomery has never been objectively fast...but he should be able to hustle like Burger. He looked athletic enough on the triple and diving catch...maybe more dynamic than expected even based upon previous reports. Getaway day before the ASG explains a lot of the body language. Season is a slog to get through. Had a ton of travel this week as well...bit of jet lag after the initial burst of excitement wore off.
  9. Yeah they already have way too many who are best suited for 2B 3B 1B.
  10. 90s Cubs baseball is when they pulled away with taking the city over for good, whether it was steroids-driven or not. WGN Harry Caray and Sosa.
  11. Thint they might hold Walker for one more shot...like Adell has gotten with the Angels. The problem is they are in a competitive playoff race in StL and have less patience with Walker continuing to struggle. Another often-debated former top prospect, Moniak, had an 800 ops coming into yesterday's games for Colorado. G.Canario with Pitt basically what everyone thought he was....
  12. Unless you're going into the 2027-28 seasons...it isn't going to make much sense. Probably a similar deal to Fedde.
  13. You're maybe thinking of when a batted ball hits a baserunner.... catcher's interference has no statistical result for the batter. "When a runner is hit by a batted ball in fair territory, the play is ruled a dead ball, the runner is out, and the batter is awarded a single while the closest defender is credited with the putout. However, there are exceptions to this rule where runners are allowed to advance to the next base."
  14. Misses on curveball and slider low. 59.4 EV lol catcher's interference is definitely a unique way to start your big league career.
  15. Jinxed. Luckily the Sox do have Houser going for them...but who knows how long his pitching run continues.
  16. Well the Sox standard for "really good" hitting is just a 700 ops...only 100 less than the rest of baseball. And convincing ourselves Chase Meidroth was closer to a unicorn than Madrigal. Or that Sosa's hitting could overcome his other fundamental deficiencies. Sure you always need some complementary/average to below average glue guys on a roster..but going nowhere without 2-3 stars.
  17. THE "ELKO EFFECT" SHATTERED ATTENDANCE RECORDS ACROSS THE NATION...except you were once on that bandwagon too. And that was still better/more rational than playing Palacios Amaya Maton Noda Capra Dalbec Drury.
  18. Some believe Montgomery could take off at the big league level after dealing with true on-field struggles for the first time in his career. His chance begins at Coors Field. “He was always a superstar and he still is a superstar in my eyes and in our eyes,” Jirschele said. “Just going through those failures and watching him grow as a person, as a human being, as a competitor, and understanding like, ‘Ok, what do I need to do to turn the page on this and get better from it and learn from it?’ It’s the right way going about it.” “Even in the clubhouse, even in the early work, even during batting practice, some of the body language stuff that we can get from guys that they’re telling you some things about where their head’s at, how they’re feeling, those kinds of things,” White Sox director of player development Paul Janish said. “Colson is in a good place. He expects success right now, which is exciting.” More Jirschele: “He’s a really good teammate. He brings energy. He has an infectious smile about him. He just creates a vibe where he makes people better. He makes his teammates better. When he’s around them, guys gravitate toward him. Everything that his aura brings to a clubhouse, it’s infectious.” merkin mlb.com
