  1. Just relying on the bullpen to hold a one run lead doesn't seem like the greatest plan. Stone attempting to give some credit to TLR that he preferred this Lopez match up with the pinch hitter. We shall see.
  2. At least he had a nice swing on that ball pulled down the left field line. Just seem allergic to clutch hits but Giolito at least gave them a fighting chance.
  3. Jermaine Dye and AJ and Carl Everett and Pods and Iguchi weren't in high demand when the Sox picked them up either. That's how you can get excess value rather than overpaying. Jenks? Contreras? 2021 Rodon? Completely given up on by most of MLB front offices...
  4. Well, there's also the quite large basketball player from LSU...Ben Davis.
  5. Well, it can’t get much worse. Only the Royals have a worse RS/RA differential in the AL. -16 to -23. Balt at -12. Chris Archer can’t keep this up, can he? TBD instead of Giolito listed, no Sox lineup posted. Minnesota has theirs up now. Gordon and Urshela the left side of the infield with Arraez at DH and ice cold Sano at 1B.
  6. Well, he should be the most motivated player in baseball next season…
  7. Miguel Cairo is the bench coach. He works along with Jerry Narron, who was bench coach for the Red Sox in 2020.
  8. See, reading comprehension problems… At least 50% of the posters on this board know who he is or are at least familiar with his name and the story about his son turning into one of the better prospects in baseball. Even interns who work in the front offices of Tampa Bay, Oakland, Milwaukee, Houston, LAD, Cleveland, Atlanta, etc., READ and RESEARCH a lot. Obviously, in retrospect, Thomas was the scapegoat for more endemic organizational and player personnel/evaluation issues that are as of today unresolved.
  9. It's literally getting to the point where someone is hurt every day. And... didn't they replace the training staff already last offseason? These guys are just glass houses. He asked a simple question. WHY IS READING SO DIFFICULT? I would have to assume that most Sox fans are relatively well informed and it didn’t require a lengthy explanation. “General manager Rick Hahn announced Friday that Allen Thomas, the team’s head of strength and conditioning, will not have his contract renewed as the White Sox “reimagine” that department. Thomas had been a staple of the organization for nearly three decades, 2021 being his 27th with the team. After playing two minor league seasons for the White Sox in 1996 and 1997, he was hired to the conditioning staff in 1998, 18 of those many seasons spent as the director of strength and conditioning. But the White Sox are making a change after a season that was, in part, defined by significant injuries to key pieces. Middle-of-the-order hitters Eloy Jiménez, Luis Robert and Yasmani Grandal missed months at a time. Nick Madrigal was knocked out for the season before being traded across town in a deadline deal. And there were plenty more trips to the injured list between April and October, many of them the result of hamstring issues.” Then there’s his son who just happens to be a left-handed hitting outfielder we didn’t draft because we apparently have too many Top 100 prospects in our organization. “It didn’t take Thomas long to live up to his reputation as one of the better prep hitters in his Draft class. A compact left-handed swing that yields hard, line-drive contact to all fields along with an advanced approach fuels Thomas' projection as a plus hitter. His approach and his power took steps forward in 2021 as he showed more discipline and hit a career-high 18 homers. While it’s unlikely he’ll ever be a slugger, Thomas has shown the ability to drive the ball and could rack up between 15-20 homers a year once he’s in the Majors. Outstanding instincts, along with a strong baseball acumen, enhance Thomas’ plus speed on the bases and in center field, where he has a chance to stay. Thomas could move to left if needed, but his below-average arm would likely keep him out of right. Thomas receives some comparisons to 2019 first-rounder Corbin Carroll for having an advanced, well-rounded game that could enable him to move quickly. He has an incredibly high floor, and club officials like his chances of developing into at least a well-rounded regular at the highest level.” Source: mlb.com It didn’t take Thomas long to live up to his reputation as one of the better prep hitters in his Draft class. 10. Yes, last November 5th, Allen Thomas’ contract wasn’t renewed.
  11. Goal to compete in 2023 but most likely 2024-25 Hold: Robert, Vaughn, Cease (control through 2026), Jimenez (control through 2024 plus two more expensive option years), Crochet, Moncada (through 2024 plus $25 million option), Sheets, Lynn (until he proves to be healthy) Undecided, depends on offers/interest: Bummer Start exploring potential market/s for beginning in early June if no turnaround or managerial change: Anderson, Giolito, Kopech (control through 2025, would have to be absolutely blown away with an offer) Salary dumps to regain financial flexibility and replenish AA/AAA quality depth (plug n play guys like the Olson trade to ATL): Grandal, Hendriks, Keuchel (almost all dead money at this point), Abreu, Pollock, Lynn (depends how he looks upon return), Graveman, Kelly Looking at those choices, the hardest decisions would be about the futures of Moncada and Kopech…obviously TA7 would be the most controversial/polarizing of all. The writing already seems to be on the wall with Lucas’ eventual fate.
  12. Another point about the flatness of 1B...I had the worst case of plantar fasciitis from landing with all my weight on the heel and not the front part of the foot like they always teach you to do. Almost the exact opposite (Eloy mistimed his steps and ended up clipping the back of the bag awkwardly), because I lunged forward with my foot instead of running right through the bag.
  13. Of course I know who all those people are...I guess I was more into SNL, Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Eddie Murphy, etc. I distinctly remember my father having a Cosby cassette tape, but I only liked The Cosby Show and not his stand-up.
  14. I think you can cancel and get it prorated...seems like it used to be charged all at one time in the past, but mine is on a monthly plan right now for some reason.
  15. Well, obviously Luis Robert seemed to shake his injury off...considering the initial reactions of he might never be the same player again. Haven't seen the sprint speeds yet this year, he might be running at 90-95% compared to last year.
  16. They'd probably suffer another injury or two just practicing it...
  17. Missing that much time...he likely wouldn't be able to re-establish any kind of hitting rhythm or consistency just like last year in the 2nd half.
  18. And 9 is the all-time record for a World Series winner...1953 New York Yankees. Must have been one long week of partying for Mickey Mantle and the boys.
  19. “Brutal,” Guardians center fielder Myles Straw told reporters. “Worst fan base on the planet.” nypost.com Rivalry with the Yankees suddenly more interesting. As Mercado told reporters after the game, he was turning to run back to the dugout when two cans were thrown his way, causing him to lose his cool: Said Straw, “It was just a beer parade. You could see them (beer cans) coming from a mile away. We were just trying to avoid the beer cans. Our bullpen was getting hit with them, too. “It doesn’t surprise me. I think (Trevor) Stephan got hit by an ice cream cone or something crazy. It was all kinds of stuff. I’ve never seen this anywhere else.”
  20. That was their marketing plan all along. Dramatic comeback. Tension at the trade deadline. Nail biting pennant race games to attend down the stretch. Aging veterans to replace.
  21. Not sure even Vince Lombardi could do the trick. Maybe a "Weekend at Bernie's" trick with Connie Mack?
  22. None of them. Bob Hope with a gun to my head minus his politics I guess. Tyler Danish in for Boston in a game perfectly emblematic of this zany season.
  23. Speaking of no offense, I give you TB and Boston. TB has no hitter through 9, going into Bottom of the 9th tied 0-0. Two hits and an error for TB.
  24. Then sat out a season...so two full years.
