  1. I would guess there has never been a collegiate pitcher taken in the first round with a lighter workload... would have to go back and look at Royce Ring and Aaron Poreda. Plus, another factor has to be how light he is. That said, guys like Sale, Pedro Martinez and Oswalt are/were hardly much bigger, Big Unit comes to mind as well. Greinke when he was drafted. Carl Edwards, Jr., etc.
  2. what do you attribute Crochet's problems to, more mechanics or simply the lack of previous starting workload at Univ. of Tennessee compared to Sale at Florida Gulf Coast? equivalent impacts?
  3. I'm with Greg775 on this one. No idea why they didn't pursue Francona after Boston....guess the timing was just wrong not having a competitive team and also Ventura as the placeholder/take hits for the organization to shield the front office guy at the time. Was there ever any issue between the team and Francona when he was managing Birmingham in the mid 1990's? https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=franco001ter Was the Barons manager for 3 years, took 1996 off and then started his career with the Phillies (lasted just four years), Never had a winning season in Philly, took 3 years away from managing, then suddenly has a 98 win team in Boston in 2004 at age 45 (and that first WS title in ages). Francona became third-base coach for the Detroit Tigers in 1996,[10] working under their new skipper, Buddy Bell, a former teammate of Francona on the Reds. He spent the following season as a special assistant to the general manager with the Cleveland Indians in 2001, which was followed by two one-year terms as a bench coach for the Texas Rangers (2002) and Oakland Athletics (2003).[12]
  4. When he wasn't KW's in-house spy in the clubhouse, lol. Or doing his weekly radio show.
  5. https://theathletic.com/2321274/2021/01/14/chicago-white-sox-shelley-duncan-apitching-analytics/ They still have the guy from Notre Dame who has been around 15-20 years, don't they?
  6. Kiermaier or Margot? They just signed Margot to a two-year extension, fwiw.
  7. "Paddack received an injection in his right elbow earlier this week and is expected to make a full recovery from a slight UCL sprain..." This was late last July, btw. PTAC, what are the odds of a "slight" UCL sprain with treatment/rest NOT later developing into a full strain later on? Any numbers on likelihood of recovery for a guy who doesn't feature a slider but a FB/CH guy?
  8. https://www.milb.com/player/jhan-marinez-501697 Crazy this guy was one of the two players that came over from the Marlins for Ozzie Guillen (compensation). Older than the majority of MLB players. Already one blown save for the Knights. Seems like they will go with a closer by committee approach. Let's hope Burger isn't out for more than day-to-day or any trade for pitching will REALLY be difficult to pull off.
  9. Hopefully just a precautionary measure with Burger. Perez has started out en fuego...has he always had that wide open stance?
  10. It's almost like they KNOW that Adolfo won't get enough playing time, so they're doing him a solid to not delay starting his career with another organization that will provide him playing time...
  11. The Paddack trade is FAR from definite...
  12. Still think they're unlikely to give up a once-promising pitcher for someone who's so similar to Aristides Aquino. Adolfo has the bigger arm, but no track record.
  13. The Minnesota Twins of 2018-19 are the perfect example of bludgeoning teams to death offensively and coming up short in the post-season due to pitching woes.

  15. If you compare a difference of $66 million in 2006 against $73.5 million 13 years later... how else would you make a comparison? It's the exact same thing with box office receipts over time for the Top 100 movies across significant time gaps or periods of inflation, like the late 70s/early 80s. That way it's apples to apples and not apples to oranges. There has to be a base year established. The Belle deal was essentially done to spite the rest of baseball owners, JR clearly didn't want to carry that contract on the books... but to make a painful point to the rest of baseball. Which was that offering those massive FA deals would ruin the sport and spoil the union. It's hardly a ringing endorsement of franchise generosity.
  16. Robert and Moncada... just to be clear your last paragraph is about Yoan and not Luis.
  17. Except Cohen in NY…
  18. How many White Sox games have you watched the last three seasons?
  19. Sounds like the beginning of yet another positivity thread… I would hope they would be generous with what were two HoF-bound players at the time those deals were inked. White Sox have offered bigger deals than historic Pirates and A’s franchises!
  20. Or he joins the Tigers with Riley Greene out due to his foot. You just know the Guardians or Royals will take him, but Oakland would be a natural landing place. Baltimore if they're not satisfied with Santender.
  21. https://www.mlb.com/news/every-team-s-largest-contracts If you adjust for inflation, the Eric Chavez extension deal for 6/$66 from almost two decades ago would beat Grandal and Moncada. So Pittsburgh... It's even more amusing with the White Sox the only large market team in the division and the only one of five not in the competitive balance category.
  22. Not sure about 4-5 years, but 2-3 makes a TON of sense and their draft pick loss will be mitigated due to being a competitive balance team. So they have to look at 3 more internal extensions (doubt that includes Plesac and Civale) versus what they can come up with for Conforto.
  23. NEXT season if their starting pitching holds up and they can quickly repair the bullpen. Shaw might be #2 with Karinchak sidelined. And now all of the AL Central teams have given out bigger contracts than the White Sox. Finally, they might have dodged a bullet giving a massive contract to Lindor, which instead goes to Ramirez, Bieber, Clase and perhaps Rosario. Better allocation of limited resources, by far.
