After winning five consecutive, the breaks were due to even out sooner or later.

Brewers' announcers calling out Giolito for his fastball being too straight... How would you like to face Jack Flaherty, Max Fried and Lucas Giolito (Harvard Westlake) as a high school batter...in consecutive games?

LHP José Quintana – Don’t forget, there is a trade deadline coming up on Aug. 31 and this is apparently the year of White Sox pitching reunions with Richard and Gio González, so why rule out Quintana? Given the uncertainty of this season even finishing, I’m not sure I’d want to be trading away a prospect or otherwise valuable piece for an impending free agent, but let’s see how things look in a couple weeks. If the White Sox are a serious contender and need a more dependable starting pitcher, I don’t think you can rule anything out. Quintana wouldn’t cost anywhere near what the White Sox got in return (Eloy Jiménez and Dylan Cease) when they traded him to the Cubs in 2017, so it might be worth exploring. The Cubs’ starting pitching has been plenty good without Quintana (who has been out following thumb surgery) and they need bullpen help, which is something the White Sox could potentially provide. You can call me crazy, but it wouldn’t be the first time I was called crazy for suggesting a crosstown Quintana trade. It worked out the first time. And hey, if none of these options work out, just call up first round pick Garrett Crochet. It’s 2020. Nothing should be ruled out. https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/white-sox/5-options-help-white-sox-rotation-dane-dunning-jose-quintana The other four were Detwiler, Dane Dunning, Drew Anderson and Clayton RIchard, along with the throw-off comment about Crochet.

Indians going in exact opposite direction as White Sox, getting 1 hit in Cincy and down 2-0 in the 7th. I think, by my count, that would be five consecutive losses, including Bieber taking one individually, who went 6/2 ER and 7 k's. Castellanos with 6 dingers already. Calling Fathom.

Rodon to IL, Basabe DFA’d, Lail called up
caulfield12 replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He was sent down to their minor league camp. Still Braves’ property. He likely needs surgery. If he cleared a medical exam, an acquiring team would be looking at fixing him before 2021. But that contract going forward would be a non-zero risk based on his past performance pushing his arbitration numbers up...they would still have to pay him 20% if they cut him in the spring, right? The problem is if they roster him and he’s out for all of 2021 due to surgery/injury, then they would have to pay him roughly $5-7 million to rehab, yes? -

They’re still a long ways from moving Jimenez there. Not with Robert to help out, and the logjam of EE, Abreu, Vaughn and Collins...not to mention Sheets, who has now been relegated to trade bait. -
Shark only had one season. Danks was the significant contract piece going down that scared JR, apparently. Of course Rodon and Erik Johnson immediately come to mind. Miguel Gonzalez was the other name in that time frame who was relatively reliable, but certainly not a prospect.

Mehhh. The big question is how long Rodon is shut down for...and who replaces him. -

What’s crazy is that Bo and Frank played together at Auburn one year (how much fun would that have been to watch?), .722 ops in 1993 with Sox but somehow finished at .851 his final year with Angels the next season. Overall only a 784 ops and 112 ops+. Perhaps most famous for strikeouts and speed getting to first and around the bases in general The plays that I remember most are the homer in the All Star game in Anaheim, climbing the wall almost horizontally to the ground on one play like Superman...and he had one of the strongest throwing arms in the history of the game, just some unreal highlights from near the wall to any base on the field. Bo was raw power. Robert is graceful athleticism and instinctive agility out there. -
Classic Luis Tiant there...

Jeter: "Everyone got too comfortable" This type of 20/20 hindsight realization is getting old. "Guys were around each other, they got relaxed and they let their guard down," Jeter said. "They were getting together in groups. They weren't wearing masks as much as they should have; they weren't social distancing." Jeter said his players were upset by speculation that reckless misbehavior was to blame. "Our guys were not running all around town in Atlanta," he said. "We did have a couple of individuals leave the hotel. We had guys leave to get coffee, to get clothes. A guy left to have dinner at a teammate's house. There were no other guests on site. There was no salacious activity. There was no hanging out at bars, no clubs, no running around Atlanta." By July 26, the outbreak became so serious that the Marlins' season was temporarily suspended, with the team stranded in Philadelphia. The infected players have since returned by bus to South Florida, where they are quarantined. "We have a lot of players who are asymptomatic, and we have players who are showing mild symptoms," Jeter said. www.espn.com

Worse than Hunter BidenGate-Burisma...yet somehow fitting for this admin The relationship between Apollo and the White House runs deep. In 2017, Josh Harris, a founder of Apollo, advised the Trump administration on infrastructure policy and discussed a possible White House job with Jared Kushner, Mr. Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser. That same year, Apollo lent $184 million to Mr. Kushner’s family real estate firm, Kushner Companies, to refinance the mortgage on a Chicago skyscraper. Since the pandemic, Apollo has been lobbying the Trump administration to allow broader access to an emergency Federal Reserve lending program. The government lifeline to YRC was a boon to Apollo, which might have been faced with liquidating its decaying trucking assets if the company was forced to close. Apollo, which is YRC’s biggest creditor, said it was not involved in YRC’s decision to seek the Treasury Department loan and noted that it is one of several lenders invested in the company. However, a spokeswoman acknowledged that it was advised of the government loan and made changes to its own loan terms with YRC to accommodate it.

https://www.fangraphs.com/standings/playoff-odds Bunched up together and within 0.4% of the Rays (for 5th), but also just on top of the Indians now. Interestingly, White Sox barely ahead to make playoffs, but slightly behind CLE to actually win WC. Angels/Blue Jays/Red Sox would be fighting for final, 8th position. Dodgers, Cubs, Braves, Padres Top 4 for the moment in the NL.

Benetti. Honestly, would almost prefer Chris Singleton. DJ doesn't have a voice or style for t.v., too, what's the word, laconic. And his sense of humor is almost as off...that said, he was the perfect pairing for Farmer, but they both goofballs together. Masur is a smooth/polished professional, but they just don't have the easy chemistry yet.

Nerve impingement? Just slept wrong on it, like a kink....with pain shooting down into arm? There had to be SOME plausible explanation for a 7-8 MPH falloff in velocity. -

He's a lot shorter than his older brother, unless he hits a similar late growth spurt. Last I saw, only 5'11 1/2" compared to 6'3 1/2". In all seriousness, it was like a mulligan for Fernando Tatis, Jr., to let the second son sign with Chicago after the first one got away. It's hard to believe he's equally or perhaps even more talented, because it's almost impossible to find something to criticize him about (maybe his reckless/aggressive defense, reckless/aggressive baserunning and too many strikeouts are the top 3.) I don't think even if Elijah never manages to make it to the big leagues than Hahn would be dumb enough to trade the other brother, well, just in case. Even if he's Jordan to John Danks, comparatively.
