  1. And US county population details/demographics...now they need to bring in Dave Eggers as the guest author for one inning, can start a new Sox tradition to get people more interested in books/reading. White Sox extend this now insurmountable (2-0) lead!!! He doesn’t know the White Sox bullpen this year.
  2. Straight laced IBM pencil pusher with pocket protector and 1960’s black horned rim glasses?
  3. Is it my imagination or did he name drop David Axelrod? Go Angels! when the Sox are scoring. Just hearing energy and excitement about a baseball game is kind of contagious...throw a flag out there, challenge!
  4. You can bet this will lead to Glaucoma/Medicinal Marijuana Day at GRF. Get on the horn with Boyer. Reading promos for NBC...too funny. Winning a trip to Prague? What? Luke Walton appearance next?
  5. The intermixed California postcard pictures are cool...breaks up the monotony of the Big A.
  6. Seems like a cool life...hanging out with the Dead, riding bikes up and down PCH and doing fundraising for lots of valuable causes...can just imagine Johnny Bench and Walton on the Baseball Bunch. Shout outs for GMC Yukon, Honda, Lexus, left handed batters...Into the Wild, Kerouac, Chris McCandless, Native American healing grounds in Sequoia National Park. Didn't know that about Gumbel.
  7. Might be the highest ratings of the season other than Cubs’ and Opening Day despite the late start...
  8. Those Angels tie dye giveaway shirts are pretty darned cool...
  9. Love how any ball put into a play seems like a hit. The carryover rule where if you got a double or triple play it would start the next inning with 1-2 outs would actually speed up the game. Name association x 10, Farmer would enjoy guesting for an inning.
  10. https://m.chicagoreader.com/chicago/white-sox-yankees-field-of-dreams-game/Content?oid=72415248 Typical NU prof/Cub fans takes obligatory shots at Sox, Iowa
  11. He already was sent down to the minor leagues and made just one start over about 15 days...we shall see. From the beginning, it was likely he would get shut down in September, and now they have Lamet, Quantrill and Baez/Morejon up to take those spot starts and get extended innings. They still haven’t disclosed exactly what the injury is...when/if Tatis skips playing Winter Ball and is shut down the entire offseason, then I’ll start to believe it is treated as really serious (it is a bit unusual for a 20 year old, but not when you watch how he plays and his size.) They just won the Dominican championship (Estrellas) for the first time in like 50 or 60 years with his dad as manager.
  12. Engel would finally lose his spot...KW always gets his guy, etc.
  13. Defensively, sure...because an 800ish OPS at 1B/DH is still just about average. 850-875 as a platoon bat would work, if he could at least somehow hit .270-.280ish. That said, not spending another $10-12 million for such production from a veteran would be pretty huge.
  14. https://www.gaslampball.com/2019/8/16/20809337/padres-fernando-tatis-jr-likely-done-for-the-season-with-back-injury#comments Seems they’re shutting down Tatis Jr. and Paddack, pushing Kinsler out...in order to play for highest possible draft position.
  15. Kind of expecting the floor to fall out from under Goins. Castillo now has locked in the DH spot for the remainder of the season based on tonight's performance.
  16. Same size as Franmil Reyes...who is barely passable at a corner spot. Depends on his arm.
  17. Injury prone! Third injury in a year...fractured wrist, hamstring, now on 10 day IL for back spasms from an awkward swing, probably just being really conservative with nothing to play for this season. But staying on the field, wrote a long time ago that was the biggest concern with how aggressively he plays and how he pushes himself to do things not even he should attempt.
  18. And yet he can’t even get a promotion because Hahn decided to draw some arbitrary line in the sand based on about 30 “irregular” at-bats.
  19. Yes, when that player is only 26 (compared to the average free agent being 31) and has averaged 5.4 fWAR the last four seasons. That’s the game today, and the same reason Heyward and Harper got the contracts that they did. Do you honestly think the White Sox have been better picking Tier B/C/D free agents off the bargain rack?
  20. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=1b&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2019&month=0&season1=2019&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2019-01-01&enddate=2019-12-31 The 1B ahead of Abreu. He’s 17/23. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=dh&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2019&month=0&season1=2019&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2019-01-01&enddate=2019-12-31 9 DH’s with a positive value. Arguably, only JD Martinez and Meadows weren’t available to the Sox in the last 2-3 seasons.
  21. Except he’s on your Tier A list...he has the “brand” name, but you’re still paying a 25% premium for that alone. Ideally, they should get at least one guy you could squint and say belongs in the front of a strong MLB rotation.
  22. Keuchel hasn’t been good with the Braves, but it’s hard to get a full measure of all those players who ended up beginning at mid season...the majority of time, it goes disastrously, and that’s been the case for Kimbrel as well. How much is aging/lost stuff and how much is rustiness will take until next April/May to sort out.
  23. https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=10264&position=1B The 2015-2018 version...at his late 20’s peak with two consecutive 3.9 fWAR seasons at 1B. LH bat, great defense, leadership qualities, etc. That’s the problem, age is catching up to players faster now, just like we are seeing with Abreu. Belt is 31 now and trending downward obviously, which is how we get stuck with Abreu again and only Greg and Ron are satisfied (for opposing reasons.)
