Now I’m going to go all Jack Parkman on you and mention that I have ADHD, so thanks for turning me into a non-White Sox fan with the persistent bullying and personal attacks that take place on this board. I’m going to follow the Brewers from now on. Ever since the “likes” were added, people have started acting much snarkier than they used to. I’ll probably be back when Rick Hahn is relieved of his position, so deleting my account isn’t necessary like I asked at WSI...it has been a fun 12 years, but enough is enough. The White Sox fans that I grew up around in the 1970’s and 80’s were much different type of people, they were blue collar, Miller Lite drinking fans from Dubuque who worked in a meat packing plant. Now, those fans who used to be split nearly 50/50 are almost entirely gone. I used to be proud to be a fan, and I can never root for the Cubs, so I will have to do the next best thing. The other option is the Padres, who have a much more entertaining radio broadcast.

Where=wear Well, this whole “likes” thing on the board is certainly good for not leading to any personal attacks in this thread, but if it makes people feel better to pile on one after another, that’s everyone’s perogative, I guess. I swear, Soxtalk2014 must have mentioned that I have posted “random” names about 50-75 times in the last 2-3 months. It’s getting to be like one of those Cubs’ fans who calls into the postgame show and thinks that they can trade for any superstar in the game if they just package together 5-7 Tier B/C prospects.

That’s fine, if Tatis is such a bogeyman that he keeps Sox fans from enjoying the sport, I don’t know what to say...because the initial identification of him as a sixteen year old is one of the few indications are front office is doing things the right way, at least in terms of Latin America. Seriously, it’s 11 years later and Wilder is still the excuse for why we’re completely unsuccessful in the Dominican. That’s frankly not a good excuse, anymore.

The problem is that the days of “old school” guys like Matheny, Scioscia, Girardi, Showalter and Ausmus are fading, if not entirely gone. It’s almost guaranteed with our offseason acquisition strategy that there will be no “tough love” for Machado’s Muchachos, either. Just like the NBA, these superstar players will eventually get coaches and GM’s fired. Look at the Jimmy Butler saga, for example. The Cardinals, in this case, decided that Morris and Matheny weren’t ultimately worth the trouble to defend.

Definitely two mystery teams...the Padres and Pirates, but neither can be publicly acknowledged? Okay, that makes zero sense there would be no leaks over all this time. How did Lozano get that out there?

The 33-year-old Norris has been mercilessly riding 21-year old rookie Jordan Hicks since spring training, reminding him to be at meetings on time and publicly calling him out when he is lagging in any of the details a visitor might not notice, but other players do. Except I’m not sure what “mercilessly riding” means and Saxon doesn’t describe it. He also uses the term “badgering” and talks about teaching young players in “the harshest way possible” and doesn’t elaborate there either. Matheny is quoted as saying that he does not think Hicks much cares for the treatment, but again, no suggestion of what the treatment is, exactly, that he does not care for and there is no suggestion that Matheny has any sympathy for Hicks’ concerns. And Hicks doesn’t seem too cool with it all, it should be noted: That’s not a passage describing someone responding well to thoughtful mentorship or even tough love. That’s the description of someone who thinks Norris is being a jackass but is smart enough not to give quotes to a reporter about it lest he catch even more flak. Teeth. Badgering. Merciless. Harshest way possible. All this in service of a veteran — a veteran who is on record with some pretty damn intemperate comments when it comes to respecting his fellow ballplayers — who seems to be making one of the organization’s brightest young stars miserable. https://mlb.nbcsports.com/2018/07/11/bud-norris-is-mercilessly-riding-and-badgering-cardinals-pitcher-jordan-hicks/

I think you're forgetting how charged St. Louis has been, and it's not just back to the Ferguson situation, but all the way back to the late 1980's when they weren't picking up garbage for months in East St. Louis. I specifically remember a scene from one of the Chevy Chase vacation movies where the Family Truckster breaks down there, and the "ensuing hilarity" of a white family trapped in the ghetto, hahaha, The area around the field is 100% safer (at night) than it was in the 1970's and 80's. That stereotype has just carried over...wherever it started, maybe it was "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" for all I know. In fact, that Jim Croce song debuted in 1973...not too long after the riots in cities like Detroit and Newark, or the DNC in 1968. Well the South side of Chicago Is the baddest part of town And if you go down there You better just beware Of a man named Leroy Brown

https://sports.yahoo.com/report-bud-norris-repeatedly-harassing-cardinals-rookie-manager-doesnt-seem-care-much-234600367.html Apparently you also missed the "hazing" incident with Jordan Hicks? My point was that, while objectively Myers has committed the worst act, for sure...that Bud Norris has a list of incidents and run-ins a mile long on his resume. That anyone would actually WANT him on the White Sox after all that was pretty shocking, when there are MANY MANY other relief pitchers to choose from, and MANY MANY in our own organization. Not to mention we've already added Colome and Herrera just this off-season, which is more than 50% of MLB teams are spending on their pens (collectively).

Why are White Sox fans sensitive at this point....we've been hearing this since the 1970's? I don't quite get it, why it's impossible to have a sense of humor about things, just like the Cardinals and Cubs fans going back and forth about their cities. I guess not being a native Chicagoan, I don't or can't take it as personally. But I've heard every joke about Iowans and "flyover" territory there is...or about how "dumb kids" from Chicago that don't get into Northwestern or Illinois from the suburbs always go to my alma mater.

Well, considering the fact that I thought I was in the Manny Thread...that's probably why. But thanks for comparing me to a bot! And saying I'm "abnormal." Maybe it's because I'm not a Millenial Bro, and this board is essentially inhabited by 18-36 year olds, by and large. I'd say that probably only 10-15% of this board is close to 50 and older. It's just a different generation. I would actually prefer to talk about literature or movies/t.v. shows or politics, but Filibuster closed and the movies thread has been pretty dead.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/south-side-chicago-bar-strict-190618863.html 8 hours ago Good luck staying open .. there only 6 Sox fans that go to the games 7 hours ago I like it when places I would have 0 interest in ever entering make it clear up front. 7 hours ago Cubs fans and the majority of the general public wouldn't go to the south side anyway, at least not without body armor or police protection.

This would have been more exciting a decade ago. That said, he's certainly had an interesting career and won't be blocking Burger's path to the majors.

Yeah, $33 million/year. What about opt-outs or the year by year (front-loaded or back-loaded)? We haven't really seen any details or hints during the entire process about that, just numbers from Passan/Gomez/Nightengale and then the $170-175 million storyline the past 10 days or so.

Everything is Awesome!!! -
As long as Kopech comes back okay and Cease doesn't get hurt again (knock on wood), they should be fine...anything from Dunning or Hansen/Fulmer would be gravy (especially the latter).

It is now my personal mission in life to get everyone to spell Pollock correctly... Pollack and Pollock. Pollack (Atlantic or Cornish). Pollack (with an 'a') is closely related to coley and the two are often confused. Whole fish range from 500g to .. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polack In the contemporary English language, the nouns Polack or Polak are ethnic slurs and derogatory references to a person of Polish descent

2018-9 MLB off season free agency thread
caulfield12 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Poor Dylan Covey and Fulmer. Well, they'll be stuff thrown at the wall hoping it will stick if they're not traded or the victim of roster crunches. -
So Bud Norris is an asshole http://www.metsrefugees.com/forum/showthread.php?t=113157 I might actually pick all our old friend Brett Myers over him.

Sox offered Grandal multi-year deal (The Athletic)
caulfield12 replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Grandal for one year was never going to make sense to the White Sox in the same way it has for Milwaukee, who are attempting to maximize their chances to win the NL Central on a yearly basis (kind of the way the White Sox used to operate in the 2000-2009 time frame.) Not to mention this buys Collins and Zavala another year to prove themselves defensively. To sign him for 3-4 years when their competitive window might not even begin until 2 years from now...especially for catchers who have an expedited aging curve, well, it just was not a good move for the Sox.
