  1. Nope. Hahn is MUCH MUCH more conservative/traditional. He's also a pragmatist/realist, not an idealist.
  2. Now you're talking logic and removing any emotions from it. That's ONE positive trait that Hahn definitely has in abundance.
  3. Would like to see them go Rodon, Shields (until trade), Lopez, Stephens, Covey in the 2nd half...until Kopech comes up. Kopech could replace Shields when/if that salary dump goes through. They might even go six man to limit Kopech's innings. Otoh, Rodon needs to ramp his up if he wants to throw 150-170 innings next year.
  4. Does Greg have any past posts positing "he's a nice looking young man with appropriately-sized collars on his dress shirts?"
  5. Trump’s fatal flaw is becoming dangerous—even to him https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trumps-fatal-flaw-becoming-dangerous-even-173821635.html Favoring the old "industrial" economy over the new one (tech, services, value-added good, financial)
  6. Let's not forget that Shohei Otani AND Trout are hardly moving the attendance meter when they go on the road...you're talking a once in a 100 years phenomenon in terms of what he's going, to the point where they might have to adapt the DH rule to allow some flexibility in hitting and pitching in the same game (just to make it even MORE exciting for the sport.) There was that surge of excitement for 2-3 weeks when Moncada first came up, but I'm not sure how much it translated into tickets sold. There wasn't even a HUGE effect when Sale was starting and they had that special section/t-shirt giveaways, etc. Probably more of a positive affect in jersey sales when Yoan arrived? Pushing up Jimenez to the big leagues would surely have a similar effect...but this way the fans will at least have ONE thing to look forward to next year. They should also get to see a lot of Collins and Zavala in the spring and then again at mid-season. Kopech, that's a different issue and I think he'll need to learn as quickly as possible to become a pitcher and just not a raw stuff/blow 'em away thrower...he'll take his lumps, but it will only help in the long run.
  7. 1) Palka could be a good fit at DH (just nowhere in the outfield, please!) 2) Shields is actually pitching well, and we could probably (finally) unload his contract but he might be more valuable to the White Sox because Giolito's likely to go down, and Santiago/Volstad/Gonzalez are just roster filler at this point...still, any cost savings on that deal would be a benefit. 3) Rondon still has another half season at least to become more consistent...if Jones is traded, he's likely the heir-apparent at closer. 4) Covey has shown flashes of being able to make it as a 5th starter...that would mitigate the Giolito/Fulmer disasters, at least somewhat 5) Jose Rondon has been very effective in his role, fwiw
  8. Greg, I thought you were the one who argued he might be 2-3 years older than his listed age. How would that INCREASE his value?
  9. How are we positioned in North America?** There are around 34,000 people working for Daimler in North America, which represents about 12% of our global workforce. With 140,000 units sold, the US is the largest market in the world for Daimler Trucks. With a total of 165,000 units, Daimler holds a market share of 40% for heavy-duty trucks (class ? and a market share of 39.8% for trucks classes 6 to 8 in North America. 17% of all Mercedes-Benz Cars have been sold in North America in 2017. With 338,000 units sold, the US is the second-largest market for Mercedes-Benz Cars. Mercedes-Benz has been the leading luxury brand in all three NAFTA markets in 2017. With a contract volume of 41.6 billion Euro, the US is the biggest market for Daimler Financial Services. The US is the second-largest market in the world for Sprinter vans. With 3,440 units sold, Mexico is the second largest market for Daimler buses. moovel transit is the market leader for mobile ticketing systems in the USA. 22.8% of Daimler AG's shareholders come from the US.
  10. How many Sox first round picks has Law gotten right?
  11. Minnesota's going to be in danger of losing touch with the Indians....5.5 GB very quickly (thanks White Sox!) Baltimore -22 (but White Sox still have lowest overall winning percentage due to fewer games played) White Sox -21 (0.5 GB) Cincinnati -17 (2.5 GB) Kansas City -16 (3.0 GB) Miami -15 (3.5 GB)

  13. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=180617 Fwiw, his batting average and OPS went up each consecutive year in the Miami program. Hopefully the same trend continues in the minors. A mere 472 at-bats in 2016 and 2017 shouldn't define anyone as a .230's or .240's hitter, especially if he was changing his mechanics/approach...and those adjustments were going against his "muscle memory" of what made him extremely successful the first 15 years of his baseball career (and perhaps he felt he had no choice but to take their advice as a "rookie" in the organization?)
  14. https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/31/us/tom-arnold-roseanne-anderson-cooper-cnntv/index.html Tom Arnold knew Roseanne reboot wouldn't end well... Arnold, who had turbulent four years of marriage with the sitcom star prior to their divorce in 1994 told Cooper that she had a long history of racist tweets. "It's a meme that she and thousands of her alt-right fans do," Arnold said. "They love calling black people monkeys. It's not a one time joke, OK. They do it because we have a white trash racist president. That's a fact. Donald Trump -- Roseanne and I have both known him 30 years. That's an absolute fact." Arnold went on to criticize Trump for his past controversial comments. "I generally believe he thinks black people are dangerous and Mexicans are rapists," Arnold said. "He believes that. As he perpetuates that fear to America, watch out Mueller is lying, he is after me. And so, Americans are sitting home like Roseanne and her fans, are like, oh my God, what is happening out there? And they get anxiety. " ... Arnold also questioned whether Trump was really ever a fan of his former wife or just wanted to take credit for her ratings' success. He told Cooper of a time that Trump criticized her directly after their divorce. "He's with Melania and I'm with my wife at the time, Shelby Roos, who's a political consultant," Arnold said. "And he said to me, oh my gosh, you married up in the world. And he goes, Roseanne was disgusting. And he said that to me out of the blue. Like, you know what, no matter what kind of divorce you had, that's a weird thing to say."
  15. Yeah, I could see 25%. But 52%? Maybe it's a confusing survey question...like that old adage about "78% of American university students have kissed another girl at least once (while drunk or sober) before graduating"...that ends up registering people as "bi-sexual" instead.
  16. That's just a big WOW for me...but I have been living outside the US for most of the last decade plus. Generation Z and diversity By 2020, more than half of the kids in the U.S. will be members of a minority — making Generation Z the first for which diversity is the norm. Gen Z-ers are also the first to grow up during a time when same-sex marriage is not a hot-button political issue — it’s a constitutional right. It should come as no surprise then that their social leanings are progressive. Many of their favorite peer celebrities, like Rowan Blanchard and Amandla Stenberg, identify as queer, and only 48 percent of Gen Z-ers identify as heterosexual. As 19-year-old trans artist Chella Man tells Yahoo Lifestyle, “My identity is valid although most of it falls on a spectrum between standard categories.” ... Generation Z. The iGeneration. Post-millennials. The Founders. There are a handful of monikers intended to neatly define those born between roughly 1998 and 2015, but at this point “Generation Z” seems to be the one with the staying power. As this group of 61 million young Americans — which makes up 26 percent of the U.S. population — enters its formative years, who exactly is the future of this country and what are they all about? Asking Gen Z-ers to define themselves, they say they are “innovative,” “self-aware,” “resilient,” and “woke .” They are the children of Generation X and have been raised amid an America in tumult, finding themselves on the front lines of a divided nation. In a series of articles now on Yahoo Lifestyle, we get to know this rising generation and what makes its members so powerful, so opinionated, and so unique. This is Gen Z. https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/innovative-resilient-woke-ready-not-generation-z-arrived-000106846.html
  17. This might be a better gamble for the Royals (or the other team with an abundance of high picks)...who have less to lose, in a way, because they're going to be bottoming out a couple of years from now in terms of talent in their organization. With the White Sox, everything has to be pointing towards a competitive team in 2021, basically. This is a classic "long term" gamble that most "win now" oriented teams are going to avoid.
  18. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/20180529/if-pitching-is-draft-priority-for-white-sox-singer-is-logical-target Scott Gregor, fwiw, argues that the Sox will take Madrigal but, if not available, Singer's likely to be the pick at #4 "We've seen what he is since high school," Hostetler said. "We've seen him a lot. We have a long track record with him. You're talking about a big-game Friday night guy that has taken the ball every Friday night against the best teams in the country and the best conference (SEC) in the country, and he's put up just amazing numbers." Just to make sure Singer is fully recovered, the White Sox will have a scout on hand Friday when the No. 1-seeded Gators open NCAA tourney play at home against Columbia. During the regular season, Singer led the conference in wins (10) and ERA (2.25) while holding hitters to a .186 average and striking out 92 in 88 innings. As a sophomore last year, the Eustis, Fla., native was 9-5 with a 3.21 ERA to go with 129 strikeouts in 126 innings. "Coming into the season, he was the guy a lot of people thought was going to be the top college pitcher in the draft," Hostetler said.
  19. Well, that article makes all the arguments why he won't do that (full-time) until at least 2020 (unlesshe either gets hurt this fall or loses the starting job, as he already has transferred once from Texas A&M)...obviously, they can't draft him unless they pretty much have a deal in place to let him play both sports until that time, or they'll lose a significant amount of money from their bonus pool.
  20. Yes, BigSqwert. Europe is MUCH MUCH more liberalized in this area. Same thing with drinking a "moderate" amount of alcohol with meals. Because of Christian backlash as well as the Catholic Church, it's (pornography) always been a "shame" and "family values" issue in America. But go to cities like Amsterdam, Prague, Budapest, Paris, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiev, Berlin...you won't know what hit you. Or even Brazil, Colombia, etc. Yet how many of those European countries have problems with guns/violence?
  21. The smart thing would be for the White Sox to invest money into BOTH Thomas and OU's Kyler Murray...knowing that Murray will stay at QB (he can play pro ball in the summers until it conflicts with football practices in mid August) for the next two seasons, then start playing baseball full-time in 2020. http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/ousportsextra/guerin-emig-kyler-murray-can-have-too-much-fun-quarterbacking/article_566714ee-7f88-5df3-ad53-a674012e0cfd.html?modalid=followed-notification-modal-8add51d8-214e-11e3-83df-0019bb30f31a You simply have to get creative and maximize your opportunities when you get shots at unique, first-round talents outside of that round. This would be one such situation where the Sox could afford to be patient with all the outfield talent currently in the organization. It won't happen...partly because everyone will say "that's a pure KW play," but that doesn't mean Hahn shouldn't at least consider it carefully.
  22. Especially in the South. I'm guessing she means those convenience stores that used to have magazines like Playboy/Penthouse/Hustler on the top shelves in plastic wrap? The grocery stores used to have Maxim (or similar magazines), but it has been 30 years since I would have considered looked for one (physically), lol...
