  1. If not for the conservative tilt, we wouldn’t have had Bush as president and the waste of a trillion dollars and the lives of numerous American soldiers in Iraq...a destabilization which also contributed to the rise of ISIS.
  2. And the Founders would have agreed on that amount of corporate and Top 1%er money flooding into the election process? That you could basically buy seats for yourself, and, when you got tired of government service, could make a lifetime lucrative career out of it as a lobbyist?
  3. He didn't get tossed for throwing down his bat like that?
  4. Moncada still 8 ahead of Stanton and 11 ahead of Gallo for MLB strikeout lead coming into tonight's action...
  5. Why would that possibly affect either of their decisions (Machado/Harper)? Is Jimenez (going under the assumption they actually sign one of the two) then going to agree to have his seventh year extended before he ever steps on an MLB field?
  6. Well, that officially sucks. They get the small market subsidy picks, too, which they'll probably need with the sons running the franchise more carefully from a financial standpoint.
  7. Tied for 5th with the Tigers....still have the tiebreaker due to the season series record.
  8. Sanders has been seeking additional information about working conditions in Amazon warehouses for a bill he’s preparing to introduce on September 5. The proposed bill targets not just Amazon, but also other big employers like Walmart. The bill would require big corporations to pay employees more, a continuation of Sanders’s call for income inequality, the centerpiece of his 2016 presidential campaign. “If Amazon, Walmart and other corporations won’t pay their workers a living wage, our bill would establish a 100% tax equal to the amount of federal benefits received by their low-wage workers. The American taxpayer should not be subsidizing the richest people in history so they can underpay their employees,” said Sanders in a statement. https://www.yahoo.com/news/amazon-defends-bernie-sanders-claims-workers-pay-194656831.html Bernie Sanders taking a different approach on income inequality...will Republicans actually side with corporations over taxpayers/deficit reduction? (Well, yeah...probably!!!!) Hard to imagine this NOT being a winning position for attracting independents/moderates/centrists.
  9. There's a webgem for Madrigal! Wow! Walsh tipped a chopper over his head with his glove, Madrigal sprints across second to grab it, makes a jumping, Jeter-esque throw from the hole. Got him by an inch. What a play. (Take that, Madrigal detractors/haters/skeptics.)
  10. I think we've settled the question of whether Lopez belongs in the rotation or not... Pretty amazing to hit over .300 with a 714 OPS (Torreyes).
  11. We've now entered the section of the game where the starter's ERA will balloon after beginning the inning with a batter or two and then being pulled for a AAAA bullpen replacement. Still at 96-97 mph at around 100 pitches.
  12. For some reason, thought LaMarre was 26/27ish. Oh, well. On other hand, nobody (in the world) thought Jose Martinez would be a "stud" 1B if you go back a decade ago when he was experiencing all kinds of injury problems in the Sox minor league system.
  13. Speaking of LaMarre...could he pass Delmonico, Avi and Palka simply with "plus defense" and a 700-725ish OPS? Probably not, simply due to the fact you shouldn't have Engel and LaMarre in the same OF.
  14. Pretty crazy LaMarre now has a higher OPS than Moncada, but SSS. Big victory with Lopez having an excellent outing against a playoff team in a hostile environment. Jose Rondon as starting 3B in 2019? Why not, if they miss on Machado and don't give Donaldson a "make good" short-term recovery deal.
  15. A victory for the anti-Establishment... Andrew Gillum pulled off an upset victory Tuesday night in Florida’s Democratic primary in a bid to become the state’s first African-American governor. Gillum, the progressive mayor of Tallahassee who had been endorsed in the race by Sen. Bernie Sanders, narrowly defeated former U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham, the Associated Press reported. Polls showed him surging late in the race, and his victory shocked most political observers in Florida who assumed it was Graham’s to lose. In part, that was because Graham is the daughter of Bob Graham, a former Florida governor and U.S. senator. Gillum quickly set his sights on what should prove to be a difficult general election battle. “Those of us who voted for me, those who did not vote at all, those who couldn’t vote for me because they may be Republicans…” Gillum said at a victory party. “But you want to know something? I want to be their governor, too.” But for moment, progressive politicians like Sanders paused to celebrate Gillum’s accomplishment.
  16. What's even more amazing is that he was REALLY good for his first 6-7 starts, too...and still has an ERA lower than Giolito, who has managed to go all Danny Wright/James Baldwin in terms of W-L record.
  17. Delmonico's not an outfielder, Palka's not an outfielder, Davidson's not a 3B...etc. Engel's a CFer but can't hit even at the standard set by 2006 Brian Anderson.
  18. That's ONE way not to win too many meaningless late season games and end up with a pick in the #6-8 range...
  19. If Hansen goes south, pretty much all of our "high/sky's the limit upside" 2nd round draft guys like Beck, Adams and now Hansen will have turned out to be much ado about nothing.
  20. https://www.cnn.com/2018/08/27/politics/student-loan-official-resigns-cfpb/index.html Why would we want to protect consumers over big banks and for profit online ripoff schools?
  21. Hawkins and Mitchell looked good their first seasons too...what did it matter, in the end? Madrigal has had three pretty significant injuries in the span of one year. Let’s see how he does when he’s 100%. Besides the fact that baseball is tilting so far in one direction, the skill set that Madrigal has right now is eventually going to come back into vogue...like the players on the Royals, or, further back, the Piranha Twins of 2002-2006. On defense and speed alone, he will be worth at least 1.5 fWAR without even taking into consideration his offensive game. He’s a hard worker, he will get things figured out quickly enough.
  22. Hawkins and Mitchell looked good their first seasons too...what did it matter, in the end?
  23. https://sports.yahoo.com/10-degrees-baseballs-attendance-woes-mlb-owners-rightfully-spooked-031815621.html Seems like there are 1070 “Greg775bots” in the comments section on this one... "They're going to have nerds in the dugout. And I've said it: If [Yankees general manager Brian] Cashman had any balls, he'd have done that a long time ago. Or he'd like to now. Put a nerd in uniform. Because anybody can manage today. There's 100 pitches, and then you start parading your 10 relievers in."
