QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) Not trying to be argumentative, but for the sake of debate, what should I have to give up so I can help pay for your health care if you contract skin cancer? Rhetorically . . . Can my kids go to a private college, or should I be forced to send them to a cheaper state school? Can I have a Texas Edition truck, or should I have to settle for basic? Can I go out to dinner at Ruth Chris or should I have to eat at Chili's? McDonalds? Home cooked? Can I buy nice clothes or shop at WalMart? Or from a different standpoint, how much should you be allowed to keep if you are stricken? Your house in a nice neighborhood? Car? Where should you be buying your clothes if I'm paying for your healthcare? These were the questions I was asked by a conservative family member and I must admit I've been giving it a lot of thought. I'm solidly a Dem. My heart and gut tells me that universal health care for all is great for this country. But the idea of taking from one person and giving it to another is tricky. China taxes imported luxury automobiles (BMW, Audi, Benz) to the point of 2-3x times the import tax of buying domestic/Chinese-made products. Result, trillions in government surpluses and increasing protection for your domestic manufacturers. People who are rich enough are still buying those vehicles, the higher taxes actually seem to cause more to buy, what is essentially a Giffen good in economics. As the price increases, it becomes more and not less enticing because people wish to show off their wealth or status. We have never taxed American consumers on luxury goods like China does....

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 03:52 PM) Anthem pulled out of the Ohio marketplace leaving numerous counties with zero options. It's very telling the damage Obama Care did that there was only option to begin with. Now Trump Care is gonna put the nail on the coffin. Both sides combined to make health care even way worse than it was. Who created the uncertainty?, you get one guess... Anthem said it won't participate on Ohio's Obamacare exchange next year, citing growing uncertainty over the law's future in Washington D.C. The insurer ticked off a list of concerns, including "continual changes in federal operations, rules and guidance" and "an increasing lack of overall predictability." "A stable insurance market is dependent on products that create value for consumers through the broad spreading of risk and a known set of conditions upon which rates can be developed," the company said in a statement. http://money.cnn.com/2017/06/06/news/econo...care/index.html

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) There goes Cuba for no reason. Good thing we got LUIS Robert before that door started closing again...and, on the bright side, still hasn't undone the Iran agreement yet, although he's been jawing about how terrible it is for ages.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 09:38 AM) The state of this transaction is really fascinating to me at the moment. I can't see myself being an opposing GM with a team competing right now, one that has a need for a 1-2 starter, being willing to move a top 30 prospect +++ for him right now. If I've been scouting Quintana, I'm seeing a guy who isn't confident he can put guys away, he is nibbling, his curveball is vulnerable, etc. Not necessarily anything that cannot be corrected, but how long will that take? Can I get him turned around in time so that I can trust him to pitch in the big games that I need whomever I go out and acquire with these prospects to pitch in? I really don't know for sure what the answer to that question is right now. What if I go out and get him and he just sort of stays where he is at for the rest of the year? That is NOT the guy I need for my team right now. I almost see there being an opportunity for a team like the Pirates or the Braves. Someone that doesn't necessarily need Q for this season, as they likely won't be competing for anything. They feel good about Q because of his track record, and he fits into their long-term plan because he is cost-controlled and can likely slot in comfortably as a #2 if need be. Perhaps I can go out and acquire him now for .75-85 cents on the dollar, as the White Sox may just want to move on from the constant rumors and questions. I can maybe get him for a slight discount, and because I believe in him over the long-term, it's a risk I am willing to take. Instead of having to move my top guy, maybe I can get away with moving my 2nd guy, along with some other pieces. That is just my thought process. If I was Cashman or Theo, I would NOT be looking at Q as a guy that I would want to spend some of my bullets on for THIS season. The risk is just too great IMHO. Or they make it something like Schwarber, Almora and someone like Clifton. Struggling players for each other. Can forget Eloy Jimenez or Happ. Baez is probably more valuable to the Cubs now anyway, fwiw. Cubs' fans would say it's an overpay, Sox fans not enough to move the meter.

QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 09:18 AM) Marisnick's defense has been trending down in CF for a while now and he has completely sold out for power as witnessed by his 147 point swing in ISO, his strike out rate and his soft%. If Sanchez really is a 2.5-3 win player and the org feels better moving Moncada off the dirt his + speed & arm would be best served in CF, reducing Marisnick's value even further. I have faith in the white sox to develop Collins' defense as witnessed by the mechanical adjustment they made in his crouch to help with his pop times and the kids work ethic. In an age where shifts have become the norm being strong up the middle is all that really matters. If Collins can be average to slightly above and they stick with Anderson who has shown he can be above average in the past and Sanchez at 2B as well as Moncada in CF they'll be a well above average defensive team even with the corners lacking. Okay, Jarrod Dyson is a better example now. Although the weird thing is all the metrics have Leury as a Top 20ish MLB defender.

How many kids or young adults under age 30 believe they're qualified to "deal out justice" by virtue of mastering shooting games like Counterstrike or Overwatch??? https://learnaboutguns.com/2009/02/17/fact-...armed-citizens/ By this argument, we should just get rid of the police entirely and re-enact The Purge on a daily basis in America. One of the recurring anti gun arguments that I hear centers on the mistaken belief that gun owners will end up shooting an innocent person (such as a child, bystander, etc.) when trying to defend themselves against a criminal. The fact is that armed citizens are about 5.5 times less likely than the police to accidentally shoot the wrong person. [A]lthough only 2 percent of those involved in civilian shootings are misidentified, 11 percent of individuals involved in police shootings were later found to be innocents misidentified as criminals. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 08:05 AM) We asked 8 Senate Republicans to explain what their health bill is trying to do (the real goal of the bill is giving tax cuts to millionaires so they can buy a bigger boat, any impact on healthcare policy is largely incidental) Grassley always finds new ways to embarrass Iowa...need new blood in there.

QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 15, 2017 -> 08:12 PM) It's almost as unlikely as Leury Garcia being the second best player on the team by fWAR. Davidson leading Abreu, Garcia and Frazier in homers by 3?

http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/houston-astros/...arisnick-14317/ I think they need to think outside the box and add Jake Marisnick to the package...they get certainty for the next three years in CF and have a premium defender to give confidence to all our young pitchers that will be coming up. He's like the WAR equivalent of Quintana, for one year less of control...and obviously you can trade him in 2020 if you want to put Anderson or Moncada in CF instead. Obviously you'd need Martes back, and a hitting prospect. CF Marisnick LF Moncada RF Garcia 3B Davidson/Burger SS Anderson 2B SANCHEZ 1B Hosmer/FA C Collins DH Abreu That gives the defense five potentially elite defenders...or they could sign Cain as a free agent. Not to mention Collins could be a really good defender as well. Undoubtedly, NONE of these things will occur.

Anything Obama was for must be eviscerated...regardless of the real life consequences. Not leading to increased polarization at all!!! Let's not forget, this is the first time in modern US history that random individuals were targeted for death due to their political affiliation. Note: Sumner and Preston Brooks in the Senate back in the 1800's was an individual beef.

Oops, Holt. At some point, when it becomes apparent that the GOP Congress isn't going to have the votes to pass AHCA, they're going to have to start distancing themselves from Trump...or basically pretending he doesn't exist (yes, extremely hard to pull off). If they don't get the AHCA these 2-3 weeks, they'll get hammered again in town halls (although most will be cancelled due to "threats of left wing terrorists") during an upcoming one week recess and lose any momentum that might still be out there. Off the entire month of August...so infrastructure, tax reform, looming budget shutdown, etc., all still yet to be addressed.

Good post...but believe (for now) teams will shy away from offering super elite prospects like Torres...instead trying to acquire him for 3-4 players with two being MILB top 35-75.

Or is he saying that Mueller, while interviewing for the Director's position..or perhaps discussing informally before Comey was fired as Mueller was formerly director...advised Trump to fire Comey? Nothing makes any sense. I thought Trump basically admitted the Rosenstein memo had nothing to do with it in the Lester Holy interview?
