  1. The Astros have benefitted (Devenski, McHugh) but also gave up Robbie Grossman and JD Martinez for virtually nothing. They also traded Domingo Santana, who has become a valuable player this year for the Brew Crew. They whiffed on Singleton but still absorbed all of these losses to the offensive depth chart. Another great example is Aaron Hicks with the Yankees this year, or the contract Jean Segura just secured. Obviously Quintana remains the best recent White Sox move of this ilk. (Fwiw, Jake Marisnick remains the one "bridge/transition" player it would be a coup to get from the Astros, but I highly doubt the stars align.)
  2. https://www.yahoo.com/news/donald-trump-rep...-202451439.html In his speech in Brussels, Mr Trump had also reprimanded members, visibly unsettling heads of states, and demanded that they pay more toward Nato's costs. But according to Foreign Policy magazine, he took it a step further at a confidential dinner with leaders following his remarks, saying that 2 per cent wasn’t enough and that allies should instead spend 3 per cent of GDP on defence. The President also apparently threatened to cut US defence spending and have Europeans shell out “back pay” to make up for their low defence spending if they don’t dole out money quickly enough. One former senior US government official briefed on the dinner described the event to FP as “a train wreck”. “The dinner was far worse than the speech,” the person said. According to FP, Mr Trump had two versions of prepared remarks for the dinner, one that took a more traditional approach and another that was formulated by his more Nato-skeptic advisers, Stephen Miller and Steve Bannon. “He dumped both of them and improvised,” one person briefed on the dinner told the magazine. Nato headquarters declined FP’s request for comment on the dinner. Former Twitter CEO Dick Costolo compares meeting with Trump to waterboarding Good Morning America DAVID CAPLAN Former Twitter CEO Dick Costolo apparently isn't a fan of President Trump -- nor his meetings. In fact, Costolo equates attending one of the president's meetings to physical torture. In response to a tweet Friday night about an unconfirmed upcoming White House meeting with tech leaders -- similar to the one the president hosted in December -- Costolo wrote, "If you don't get invited to this meeting and want to know what it was like, just drink a bottle of gin and then waterboard yourself." "Trump is such a wimp. He cowers from any fight, points fingers in a loss but takes credit for any win. A coward, a loser, a two-bit punk."
  3. Why pay Frazier $10+ million at this stage of his career when you can play Davidson there....Yolmer, Delmonico, Saladino (if healthy), maybe even Leury the same way the Indians use Jose Ramirez, all over the field. There's just no argument for keeping him that's logical from an opportunity cost standpoint.
  4. Courtney Hawkins, 2/2, .606 average, lol. Giolito just gave up a homer to Tuiasasopo to break 0-0 tie, 427 feet.
  5. Moncada with another walk. 7 k's for Hansen through 4. 92-94, touching 95...for Giolito, 5 k's now for Lucas. Braves get just their 2nd hit with two outs in sixth, liner that Liriano leapt for and barely cleared his glove.
  6. Hansen, two k's, double, wild pitch and walk. Typical Hansen, inning still not over. Two wild pitches. Strikes out the side, 25 pitches. Easy inning for a Giolito, two fly outs and strike 3 fouled back into the mitt again. Through 4. 4 k's for Hansen through 2, another hit allowed. 3 walks, 3 k's for Giolito....leadoff hitter walks in bottom of 5th. 4th k on 80 mph slider. Giolito had a 2.17 era in eight AAA starts last year, fwiw. Everth Cabrera with unassisted DP, through 5. Both starters cruising.
  7. Deep flyout to the base of the fence in LCF on Moncada's first ab. Power stroke is coming back, as Gwinnett is a notorious pitcher's park. Kind of ball that goes out in the summer at USCF. Giolito at 94 early...average was 93.3-4 last year w/ WASH. 94.8 on four seamer. Easy 1-2-3. No swings and misses, though. Era down to 4.87. 2nd k on curve, fouled into catcher's mitt. Just gave up a single sliced to left field for first hit of game. Walk. First trouble spot. Had Jace Peterson down 0-2, walked him, bases loaded with one out. Being careful with him, apparently. Escapes with dp ball, Cabrera and Moncada. 4.70, 42 pitches.
  8. Romero looked good, but Glover and Kelley got shellacked...
  9. Sanzatela or whatever his name came out of nowhere fast...and CarGo hasn't come close to getting on one of his patented streaks. Can't imagine them with Dickerson going the way he is for the Rays, too.
  10. QUOTE (Username @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 01:11 PM) I'm actually really intrigued with this guy. Top 100 prospect every year up until last year. Been young for pretty much every stop. Solid contact skills, a touch of power and a ton of athleticism. I don't like the early release but his swing is pretty compact and smooth. His results in the bigs have been super small samples, and he's been hurt by some bad BABIP luck. He actually has a 27% hard contact rate this year and he's increased his FB%, so there's a good chance he's been super unlucky on both the power and average front. He actually reminds me a lot of both Leury and Yolmer. My only question is...why did the Pirates release him?! Josh Harrison, Newman, Ngoepe....numbers game. http://www.pittsburghsports.net/search.php http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1403369...one-knows-about Another reason is lacks the arm for SS. But a Top 50-75 milb prospect coming into 2013. We're collecting those guys. Garcia's. Rymer Liriano.
  11. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 11:32 PM) Since no one has posted any highlights....here's a few juicy defensive ones... http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/69972428/v123...y=Alen%2BHanson I'm excited, as there is no risk here, and moderate chance he's useful. Rondon just had a similar play...wish they could hit .240, that would be a 2-2.5 war player up the middle. http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?con...83&sid=milb http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=m...itting/2017/ALL He's actually put up a 775 milb ops, so there's some decent potential. If only you could morph Leury, Yolmer, Saladino, this kid...Eddie Alvarez and Rodon into one player. We're cornering the market on utility players at least.
  12. QUOTE (Soha @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) I might be alone in this, but I sort of expect the Sox to be worse next year than they will be this year. There's still some solid talent that has to be moved. From Quintana and Shields, to the bullpen guys, Frazier, etc. Specifically though - when they don't have guys like Swarzak, Kahnle and Robertson to button down leads late....then it's really going to get ugly. I think they hold onto Kahnle...you've still got Jones, Petricka, Beck, Burdi, Lopez/Fulmer (at least one of those two). There won't be a huge drop off. Wouldn't be surprised to see Jones or Kahnle closing, then being traded at max value. Odds are that Shields and Q aren't going anywhere, at least during the season.
  13. http://www.espn.com/mlb/attendance Hanging in there still...Buehrle ceremony close to a sell out. Minnesota and DBacks have been first or close to first for most of the season, fwiw. Leading the Indians, who almost won the WS last year.
  14. If anything, Brian Anderson had too many chances...including as a pitcher.
  15. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 09:04 AM) he was a BernieBro, not alt-right. Nice try This guy was a Bernie Bro? Look again. http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/26/us/portland-...bing/index.html The GOP (party nominating apparatus) that failed http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/201...t-failed-215243
  16. Huge dp reversal keeps game tied, Harper throws out Pete Kozma at home....9th of assist.
  17. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/stats/sort...&extended=0 Omar has been more impressive than I thought getting on base and making contact....just not hard contact very frequently. Davidson's OBP really sinking, ops now at 771, which still would be passable as a platoon bat against lefties, .889 ops vs. LHP (http://m.mlb.com/player/571602/matt-davidson?year=2017&stats=splits-r-hitting-mlb)
  18. Hoffman has been quite impressive so far this year...can only hope Giolito follows that track as TJS recovery guy eventually. Both have that FB and huge curve strikeout package.
  19. http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...mp;ymd=20170610 http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?con...83&sid=milb For those who missed it, Moncada's homer last night. Impressive. Granted, Medlen doesn't have the stuff he did before the injuries, but still.
  20. Almost every minor and major league team has charity/community service related to young children...whether it's visiting hospitals, school speeches or youth camps. If this was Hunter Greene, it would be one thing. He is a left handed pitcher, and that's always going to be an attraction to big league teams. I do believe he'll get an opportunity eventually, but maybe as a free agent with an independent team or in winter ball to start with. Maybe in Mexico, for example...or Australia. I wonder how that reporter from The Oregonian will feel if he ends up committing suicide...there are some pretty clear sides here, especially if you're a parent. There's also the religious/forgiveness element at play from a moral standpoint.
  21. The Royals and Tigers should be pretty darned by next year...hard to imagine us losing more games than this year. However many we finish below .500 this year, I'd comfortably cut that in half for next year. Example, 66-96 turns into 73-89 or 74-88, something like that. Draft pick 3/4 turns into 6-10.
