QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) Above average defender with great instincts and an arm that can top out at 90mph from the mound, a very discerning eye, above average speed and left handed. If it all comes together we could be looking at a Ender Inciarte type of player. Klaw had him mocked to go at the end of the first round a few mocks ago. Fits the mold of what Hahn and Hostetler want and could move quickly through the system. Will create a nice wave of talent and depth with Burger, Sheets, Call, Fisher and Dickman. Hickman?

White Sox pick 3B Jake Burger at #11
caulfield12 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
And with Kendall or White, we'd be hearing all about swing and miss issues, or Scott Boras, and about the sad tales of Barnum/Hawkins/Walker/Mitchell...or how Evan White won't hit more than 15 homers and doesn't have the power for a corner outfield spot. Do we want an outfielder who maxes out as Piscotty? It's not like we missed out on Mike Trout here, folks. While it's true you can luck out and sign Moreland or Morrison this offseason for peanuts...the negative slant here is mostly predicated on posters being right and Hostetler being wrong in projecting his defense and work ethic. Hostetler should have earned our respect with his last draft, and there's no way to begin to evaluate the big/ger picture until at least three years from now anyway. How many games did Hawkins win for the White Sox with that back flip, btw? -

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2715096...es-and-analysis First Round (No. 11 Overall): Jake Burger, 3B, Missouri State Jake Burger was one of the top college power bats in this year's draft following a stellar junior season at Missouri State. He hit .328/.443/.648 this spring and his 22 home runs marked the second year in a row that he's topped the 20-homer mark, while his on-base skills also took a significant step forward and he drew more walks (43) than strikeouts (38). There are some questions about his ability to stay at third base defensively and he's not the most athletic player by any means, but his bat will play and his power is legit. Grade: C-minus Burger should develop into a solid contributor, but if the White Sox preferred to go the college-bat route, I like Jeren Kendall or Evan White here instead. Second Round (No. 49 Overall): Gavin Sheets, 1B, Wake Forest Gavin Sheets was asked to fill the shoes of 2016 first-round pick Will Craig in the middle of the Wake Forest lineup and he didn't disappoint. He raised his OPS from .891 to 1.063 and slugged 20 home runs while driving in 81 runs and drawing more walks (44) than strikeouts (33) on his way to a .429 on-base percentage. The big 6'5", 235-pound slugger will be limited to first base and DH duties, so his bat will have to carry him. Grade: C This pick would have made a lot more sense if the White Sox had gone with a high-ceiling high school prospect in the first round. Note, that's actually what they did when the Sox signed Luis Robert, buddy. And Beck/Adell were already gone, so not sure what the argument is, that they should have taken Baz instead? A lot of teams passed on Kendall, but he and White will be the obvious comparisons throughout their respective careers...especially after being linked to him for so long. -

11. Chicago White Sox As the Luis Robert signing showed, the White Sox are committed to building a major league roster with homegrown players, even if they have to pay a premium for them. It’s worth wondering what this pick would have looked like without bonus pools and slot suggestions. This is a pick that can live up to the hype, though, and the White Sox bought in. The strategy is simple: Get the best possible player first, worry exactly where he’s going to fit second. It’s a fine tradition in the draft, and there’s no reason for the White Sox to veer away from it. Grade: B+ http://www.sbnation.com/2017/6/12/15727198...erious-analysis -

http://pinstripedprospects.com/draft-prosp...in-sheets-21897 Scouting report on Sheets from Yankees' site. Best comp so far is probably Lucas Duda. Interestingly, his Wake Forest teammate from last year, Will Craig, drew a lot of comparisons with Burger as hitters and for their "unconventional" bodies. Along with Fisher and Call, you're now seeing an about face in philosophy, at least with hitting prospects. -
White Sox pick 3B Jake Burger at #11

http://www.kansascity.com/sports/mlb/article155796744.html Missouri State junior third baseman Jake Burger didn’t have to wait long to hear his name called by commissioner Rob Manfred in the Major League Baseball draft on Monday night. With the No. 11 overall pick in the draft, the Chicago White Sox tabbed Burger as their future third baseman. “Today was incredibly stressful, and last night was really emotional (MSU was eliminated in the NCAA Super Regional by TCU, ending Burger’s career as a Bear),” Burger said. “Hearing my name called by the commissioner lifted so much weight off my shoulders.” Burger, who went to high school at Christian Brothers College in St. Louis, led Missouri State to two Missouri Valley Conference titles as well as two NCAA Super Regional appearances during his three-year tenure. “I can’t even begin to thank Missouri State for all they have done for me,” Burger said. “That is the best developmental program in the country. … They consistently produce MLB players.” As a senior in high school, Burger hit just four home runs. But as a sophomore at MSU, he developed into one of the most dangerous power hitters in college baseball. Over the past two years, Burger crushed 43 home runs. “Hitting home runs is definitely an art because it’s not something you just wake up knowing how to do,” Burger said. “It’s something you have to teach yourself, and the coaches at MSU have really helped me over the past two years in that category.” Just over a week ago, Burger received first-team All-America honors from Baseball America after finishing seventh in the nation in home runs (22) and sixth in runs scored (69). The 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year ranks second among all active Division I players with 47 career home runs. And in just three years, he racked up 241 hits, which is the 11th most in MSU’s history. Burger has been a lifelong fan of the White Sox and considers it a dream to be drafted by his favorite organization. "I have loved the White Sox ever since I was a little kid, so this is an absolute dream come true,” Burger said. “I couldn’t be happier even if I wanted to.” Read more here: http://www.kansascity.com/sports/mlb/artic...l#storylink=cpy -

Let's not forget, Robin Ventura wasn't highly touted for his defense when he was drafted. Sure, there are the Josh Fields, Viciedo, now Delmonico examples...but hard to write him off before he has at least 1 1/2 seasons to prove himself there, if not more. -

Callis: He had back-to-back monster seasons at Missouri State and might have the most usable power in this Draft. And while he's not the prettiest-looking player, he gets the job done. He manages the strike zone well, runs better than you think, and he's got a chance to stick at third base. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/235976306/ml...opicId=27118122 Comments on Evan White, Bellinger defensively/Piscotty offensively...Markakis at his best, or poor man's Erik Hosmer? Much like Wake Forest third baseman Will Craig in 2016, Burger is the bad-bodied but big hitting third baseman whose track record of excellent offensive production will be hard for teams to ignore if they are looking for the safety of picking a college hitter. Burger’s power is some of the best in this draft class. He’s a fastball hitter with above-average bat speed who can catch up to premium velocity, but he’s also aware enough of the strike zone and has the pitch recognition to lay off tough off-speed offerings to put himself in fastball counts. Much like Todd Frazier, his swing includes an arm bar, but he’s been strong enough to make it work. In pro ball, his swing means he’ll likely sacrifice batting average for power. As of mid-May, he had 19 home runs, meaning he’s likely to reach 20 home runs for the second straight season and he does it while hitting for average (.344 career batting average) and while walking more than he’s struck out this season. Whether Burger can stick at third base will depend on how much work the team that drafts him is willing to do. His feet work relatively well and his arm is average and accurate, but he lacks a quick first step and is limited in his range. Firing Mueller and/or Sessions before end of the week seems a possibility. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/06/12/t...rrogates-239447 Other Trump associates in recent days have been circulating links to federal fundraising databases showing several of Mueller’s new hires have given to Democrats. They include Weissmann, who is on detail from his post as head of DOJ’s criminal fraud division, who donated $2,300 to Obama during the 2008 campaign; Mueller’s former law partner, James Quarles, who donated $4,600 to Obama for the 2008 and 2012 campaigns and $2,700 to Clinton in 2016 (FEC records show he’s also donated to prominent Republicans, including Sen. George Allen and Rep. Jason Chaffetz); and Jeannie Rhee, a former DOJ attorney who donated $5,400 to Clinton in 2015 and 2016, as well as $4,800 to Obama in 2008 and 2011. Rhee also represented the Clinton Foundation in 2015, where her partner was Democratic Washington powerhouse attorney Jamie Gorelick — who now represents Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump. Morris, who now supports the Trump White House, called the special counsel’s hiring of past Democratic donors “a huge mistake on Mueller’s part.” “He has to have a staff of virgins,” Morris said. Trump simply can't fire Mueller...the other point the GOP is arguing is the close (and pre-existing, for man years) relationship between Comey and Trump. Otoh, no major findings, it will be harder for Dems to assail the results as a whitewashing of the truth by the right.

Zimmermann, Verlander, Cabrera, SANCHEZ (this year), Victor Martinez...lots of bad contracts. At best, they trade JD Martinez and Kinsler, try to keep Avila healthy (trade and bring back). Fulmer, Norris and Boyd are solid, but not good enough after Fulmer in terms of young starting pitching. -
I guess the big warning sign is when traditional allies align with China...because the US is just way too unpredictable and it's extremely difficult to discern from week to week who's actually calling the shots. Kim Jong Eun/Rodman seem comparatively more stable.

I've been a part of this board, FutureSox, etc for a long time and I've never been as excited about our system as I am now. Yeah, completely forgot Hansen. Internally, he might be raising expectations to the point where he's #2 to Kopech. So Burger could legitimately be #7-9. That's crazy. -
