2016-2017 NBA Thread
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/news/why-dwyan...-031027726.html Very good article on why Wade pretty much had no choice left but to leave the Heat...Riley now gambling everything on Whiteside and Winslow as the future (points out how they were pretty cold-blooded dealing with Alonzo Mourning as well at the end of his first run with the team).

Falcon Heights Minnesota shooting
The man, identified by relatives as a St. Paul schools employee, died at HCMC, according to an uncle. The shooting followed a traffic stop near Larpenteur Avenue and Fry Street. On the video, the man is slumped next to a woman, his white T-shirt soaked with blood. St. Anthony police, which is the agency that patrols Falcon Heights, and the BCA are investigating.Graphic video shows aftermath of shooting by police officer in Falcon Heights. startribune.com Amazing how calm that woman was in the face of everything going on around her...she will probably be faulted on the internet for "acting like a detached TMZ reporter," but there's absolutely NOTHING she could have done to get the ambulance there any faster, and then you also have the element of the kid being involved. She had to have felt that the camera/footage was the only thing that could protect/save her and her child's life as well, as witnesses. Greg Vs. the phrase "All-Time" getting sorely tested these last 18-24 months. Pretty appropriate, here. One has a feeling that these police "extra judicial killings" will end about the same time that...well, not much hope for that at the moment.

The Second Wildcard
Not sure being "right in the middle" is where we aspired to be pre 2013, after 3 1/2 years of rebuiding/retooling...but it's SOMEWHERE. Some really nervous moments calling that game for HOU when they were up 5-0 early. Tied 7-7 Valbuena absolutely crushed this Edwin Diaz dude that has been K'ing nearly everyone (29 k's in 15+ IP)...then the M's manage to pull within 9-8 on a Cano oppo double off the scoreboard....2nd and 3rd, 1 out...Cruz K's against Gregerson, intentionally walk, then a K against their Korean in Lee to end the game on a checked swing. Exciting game...playoff atmosphere, just like the TOR/KC series that the Blue Jays absolutely dominated. TOR and HOU put KC and SEA behind us, the problem is those two teams both simultaneously gained against the Sox as well in the WC race. In other news, it actually rained INSIDE of SkyDome...think about that one for a moment or two.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
Appreciation Threads are supposed to be for someone at the end of their career with a team...."pre-emptive" appreciation before he's even laced up his sneakers? For his play in HS or for Marquette? It's weird sometimes how similar the White Sox and Bulls can be....if it was 4-5 years ago, more fans would be elated. Of course, he probably wouldn't be so available, either.

7/6/16 - Yankees @ White Sox - 7:10 - WPWR
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 09:08 PM) genuine lol, well played. SouthSider should be more optimistic. He's starting to sound like Hawk when it comes to umpire reviews/challenges.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 09:06 PM) Tomorrow's an off day so maybe he just needed the work. Thankfully it was just 12 pitches and not 25-35...

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 09:03 PM) hey the bulls got wade! And then the poster actually has to care about NBA basketball, haha. I love college basketball, but only watch the playoffs these days for NBA...ever since Jordan left the Bulls.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 09:02 PM) knowing his candy ass arm, he'll be unavailable next game. Ventura getting "too cute" here trying to get him into a game against his former team when it wasn't really necessary.

QUOTE (harkness @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 08:55 PM) Is calling someone negative being negative? Seems like it would be better just to counter every negative (perceived or otherwise) with a positive. Eventually, the negatives will give up in the face of all that positivity. Or not. Dale Carnegie would approve.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 08:52 PM) You aren't. You first checked out after ripping Avi's OPS for the 2000th time, then he gave them the lead., and haven't had any game comment since. Yes, I am THE ONLY person on this board concerned with that position on the team, lol... What next, you're going to go all Aaron Burr/Alexander Hamilton and challenge people to duels w/ English pistols? Why don't you find a project of going through ALL the game threads of finding who has posted negative comments about Avi Garcia vs. positive ones...? Pretty sure we spent the entire offseason and JR's money coming up with literally 100-150 different replacements for him. So...in your idea...we should praise him for how many games now, since his key single tonight? 5? 10? We should waive Morneau and not even bother trying to improve the position because of his many detractors aren't being "fair" to him? This is the best you can come up with? Because it's about as entertaining as StrangeSox and Jenks arguing if Trump is for or against chemical weapons and genocide.

Does any other fanbase in the country have this exact conversation going on right now? I'd hope Mariners fans are more excited about beating the Astros than their 39 years of ineptitude.

What team has more fans in winning/blowout games than close/controversial losses? The Cubs? Cardinals? Red Sox? Plus, Shields' run of 4-5 starts there was historical, unprecedented levels of bad. It was a train wreck or a NASCAR 13 car pile-up at Darlington.

TRADE WINDS STILL NOT OPEN: According to private SoxTalk survey, inability to discuss possible trades in one convenient place has discombobulated many posters and sent them off to other sites. Strategic boycotts of game threads was their first non-violent method of drawing attention.

7/6 Games
Have a feeling the patented Flavum optimistic numerical projections are coming back soon if the White Sox can take 2/3 from ATL or sweep them going into the ASB...
-
Sox sign Justin Morneau
You say all these very dramatic/exciting things, but choose to lead with taking 2/3 from ATL instead of sweeping them...!!!

QUOTE (harkness @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 08:25 PM) Because the game is on WPWR.... There's a LOGICAL answer. Although I would imagine every professional sports team's message boards are more active in losses (especially controversial ones, see Boston threads with Farrell getting 100X more heat than Ventura ever will)...UNLESS they're Opening Day, playoff-clinching or post season determining games, BlackOut, post season/World Series, etc.

Fathom deserves some kind of award from the moderators for most consistent game thread poster....lifetime achievement award? He's been much calmer than I would have thought in the face of the Cubs' onslaught (which has recently become panic in a burning theatre for Cubs' fans).
-
Sox sign Justin Morneau
Morneau finished the game 1/3 with a walk. 4 PA's. 1/7 on the year, BB, HBP. Single.

The Yankees fans' don't have much faith in their aging team this year, pretty much no buzz around that team (other than will they stand pat or sell off Chapman, Miller, Beltran, etc.) playing in what looks like the best division in baseball. Just not much interest in either team right now (except for Anderson/Sale/Eaton/Q interest). Sox, though, are going to pass the Royals if they hold onto this lead. A big move for a bat or at least a smaller move to improve the bullpen would help to improve the interest level. Fulmer, maybe Morneau hitting like his 2014 version, all of those would be nice for fans.

There's something like only 10 qualified players below him in OPS now. Almost all of them are middle infielders. The other two are Aoki with the M's and Prince Fielder. Of course, Alexei Ramirez is there as well.

The Second Wildcard
Jays have been averaging 7+ runs per game since June 11 WITHOUT Jose Bautista... One more starting pitcher (again, see David Price 2015), they become pretty scary. And Michael Saunders has added a new element to that attack. That said, they don't have nearly the bullets they did last year in their minor league system. 1. TOR +9 2. BOS +8 3. HOU +7 1/2 GB 4. DET +5 1 1/2 GB 5. CHW +3 2 1/2 GB 6. KCR +2 3 GB 7. SEA +1 3 1/2 GB 8. NYY -2 5 GB Toronto leading KC 2-1, Houston beating the M's 4-0 already (again).
