  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 09:49 PM) Yea caulfield, seriously stop bringing up Viciedo. He is gone, he isn't coming back any time soon. Give it up That's what we said about Beckham, if I remember correctly.
  3. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) Wh Sox closer David Robertson told reporters no forearm issues after his outing today . https://twitter.com/MLBBruceLevine/status/582297697794682881 Robertson felt good with effort. He isn't scheduled for back-to-backs but could throw in a game and bullpen or one hitter next day https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/582297848626036736 After 3 IP Sunday, Carroll will pitch in relief in 2 days. It hints at a possible long-man role to open season. https://twitter.com/ESPNChiSox/status/582297428881178625 I can't imagine they're going to DFA Drabeck that quickly solely for the purpose of returning Carroll to the roster.
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 07:22 PM) I love Mark Buehrle. It'd be ridiculous to think about but I wouldn't mind Sale-Samardzjia-Q-Rodon-Buehrle. All the lefties! Wouldn't you need to keep Danks then?
  5. Of course, you'd also (as a lawyer) have to deal with the Sherman anti-trust exemption for MLB.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 04:08 PM) Yes. http://blog.chron.com/ultimateastros/2015/...w-negotiations/ You might want to rethink that stance. Comprehensive/holistic look at the entire case that paints neither side favorably, the Astros nor Close (Jeter's management group, also). If the odds (because of the unusual nature of his particular repair) are 80-90% that he (Aiken) doesn't return to form or improve after surgery, the White Sox would be gambling to take him. Sure, in the 4th, but not with a first round draft pick. Not to mention the fact that you're pushing his expected major league arrival back another year...when the club's entering its peak competitive window starting now. He might be able to pitch in late 2016/Winter Ball, but, even without complications, you're talking about 2019/2020. It feels like the White Sox are 2/3rds focused on the near five years and only 1/3rd on building up the minor league depth/strength.
  7. QUOTE (staxx @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 05:33 PM) I could see them trying Davidson at 1B in an emergency role. I still think they'd prefer the relative "certainty" (725ish-800ish OPS) of Viciedo compared to risking the season giving Davidson another major league tryout.
  8. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-leag...-061841237.html Of course, not mentioned are the huge signing bonuses that the Top 1-5 round players receive and are able to live on for most of their 4-6 years in the minor leagues. Or the signing bonuses that most of the best Latin American players are getting...although certainly we're only talking the elite 3-5% of players in the minors, and not the average case of a guy who hangs around for 2-3 years and never reaches AA.
  9. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) Awesome, Wilkins is a dime a dozen career AAAA 1B. They have Dan Black for that role. If Jose and LaRoche are both injured for long stretches the team is f***ed anyways. Andy Wilkins isn't saving that day. Paving the way for a Viciedo return, haha.
  10. Since the two teams haven't played (AZ vs. FLA) in spring training, they've either been watching him for a LONG time (and jumped when he became available) or they've been doing so thorough scouting work this March...or some combination of both.
  11. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 08:19 AM) Of course Sale's ahead of Bumgarner. Sale is arguably behind only Kershaw and Felix overall, and many people would argue that... Kershaw (stands alone) Felix, Sale (gap) Everyone else, headed by Scherzer, etc Bumgarner is a top 10-15 pitcher in baseball whose amazing postseason run is coloring people's perceptions of his ability heading into this season. There are people who say they'd take him over Kershaw, who is in the midst of a historic run right now. Those people are morons. And Felix even faded significantly in the 2nd half last year...doesn't QUITE have the nasty stuff he used to, but has learned to pitch without it instead of being a thrower. Not a Verlander like tail-dive, but noticeable.
  12. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 01:20 PM) I'm pretty sure Petricka was slated to be the set-up guy for Robertson. If he isn't ready, who would take his place? Putnam/Guerra/Albers/Crain eventually
  13. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 12:02 PM) I'm an English major in my free time, so I should know better. If you ever want to know about the tenants of the romantic movement of the early 19th century, I am your guy. I do want to work in a front office, however. Some 2016 players to start keeping an eye on: Seth Beer, Blake Rutherford, Herbert Iser, Cavan Biggio, Zach Collins. tenets?
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 06:51 AM) I've wanted to say that to JB after some of his starts. Babip anomaly 2000. For half a season.
  15. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 08:05 AM) Chris Sale is listed there as being 29. He turns 26 tomorrow. Good catch, you should email ESPN and ask for a correction. In the comments section, someone is already advocating on behalf of Jose Quintana/Dalllas Keuchel and against the likes of Liriano,Smyly and Gio. The usually arguments between SFG and LAD fans over postseason re Kershaw and Bumgarner. Essentially, we just missed with Eaton, Me. Cabrera, Samardzija and Quintana...to go along with Alexei, Abreu, Sale, Robertson and LaRoche.
  16. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/79082538/201...ngbonus-tracker Freeland and Schwarber are better examples....Hoffman was exactly at slot. Another injured pitcher, Fedde, actually was overslot still. Giolito was just south of $3 million as 16th pick in his draft class. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucas_Giolito
  17. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/03/...john-cases-why/ http://www.sfgate.com/giants/jenkins/artic...twitter-desktop More in-depth article. Why the Giants have only had one pitcher with TJ. Matt CaIn had bone chips removed, fwiw.
  18. QUOTE (staxx @ Mar 28, 2015 -> 08:04 PM) top of the line starting pitchers are MUCH harder to find. a lefty for that matter is even harder to find, we have the luxury of possibly having 3. Bryant is gonna be good, as will Soler likely. Calling them guarantees of being perennial allstars is a bit immature however. Of course, it also comes down to Rizzo/Castro, catching and the pitching staff after Lester. Baez has the potential to be an epic disaster/bust by the end of MAY. Next, will Arrieta repeat? Kendricks? How will they respond to the pressure of increased expectations? Hammel can repeat? I don't think so, not based on his entire career before 2014. Then you have that mess of Wood/J.Turner/Edwin Jackson at the back end, Wada, etc. I wouldn't feel VERY confident in any pitcher other than Lester as a Cub fan. To conclude, Soler needs to stay healthy, Bryant needs a "comfortable" position and Russell's still unproven. We'll see.
  19. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Mar 28, 2015 -> 09:11 PM) If you go on the NCAA's website, you'll find a Final 4 advertisement with Charles Barkley...and Greg Anthony. They are the worst. Except for Bryce/Steve Alford and any combination of Bill Walton and Magic Johnson announcing.
  20. Didn't realize until today that was Harvey's son out there. Why didn't he go to OU? Coaching change at that time? Great college BB game. In the end, ND just didn't have enough interior defense to stop KY's oppressive attacks. Grant hit that huge 3 to respond to Harrison's, but, in the end, the execution was lacking against a team with superior talent and fresher down the stretch drive as the 7 man rotation finally caught up a bit (although Brey masked it extremely well for most of tourney). ND has nothing to be ashamed about, that's for sure. The Final Four will be lucky to have another game like that one...Wisconsin MIGHT be able to push KY, but the odds are better for Duke or Gonzaga (with their similar frontline) IMO. Louisville, if they were shooting lights out and could bother KY with the press, but the odds of that happening aren't great (see WV blowout). Without Jones. LOU's short one player.
  21. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 28, 2015 -> 06:22 PM) And a tag line of 2 ER, 7 hits, 7Ks, 3BB and 1 HR. I have no idea of the circumstances or the velocity or anything. Still, not too bad His curveball was considered ahead of his fastball (you see a range of anywhere between 90-96 once upon a time) because of the lack of movement on that pitch, certainly couldn't get away with it in the low 90's. A third piece of news was that Roberto Osuna and Miguel Castro were asked to head into John Gibbons‘s office together, presumably to learn that they were going to make the team and would be added to the 40-man roster. bluejaysfromaway.com Roster numbers shuffle...two pitchers the Jays liked more. Of course, that happened before, the Pirates thought Marte was garbage and let him go to us for Guerrier (who actually ended up having almost as good a career when all was said and done, mostly with the Twins). http://projectprospect.com/article/2010/03...scouting-report From back in 2010, two years before his second Tommy John Watching from the time his hands separate, a potential issue develops as his stride foot lands before he completes his arm circle. His arm is far from up as he begins his turn. This causes a significant amount of stress on the shoulder, as he has to work hard to get his arm in a position to throw. To compensate for the amount of effort he employs to get his arm up and maintain velocity, Drabek naturally leans to the first base side of the mound. This helps to force his arm to a fully cocked position, and thus ready it to deliver the pitch. By leaning drastically to compensate for his late arm action, his balance is compromised. Looking at his mechanics as a whole, Drabek's arm enters the driveline drastically late, enough so to effect his balance and ability to locate his pitches. This is an issue that also causes plenty of stress on a shoulder, which makes me wonder about his ability to stay healthy enough to handle a starter's workload.
  22. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 28, 2015 -> 06:30 PM) Bryce Alford was chosen by the ncaa for a stop sexual assault on campus commercial? I mean really? On one hand, the sins of the father shouldn't pass down to the son. OTOH, with all the attention the Pierre Pierce case is STILL getting more than a decade later (like Bruce Pearl/Deon Thomas), it's a bit of poor taste...can you imagine the women involved in the Iowa case seeing Alford doing a commercial and "haunting" them still 13-14 years after they thought it might all be over?
  23. Wisky taking it to AZ with a barrage of 3's from Dekker, Hayes, Kaminsky. Just picked up his 3rd foul...Johnson still battling the eye scratch/contact issue.
  24. Arizona looking like the better team right now, but you can never count out WI. Looked like Wisky was going to blow the Wildcats out. BTW, Rachel Nicholas must have been the reporter Nigel was referring to with his innocent aside, "God's, she beautiful."
  25. Montas is still a raw, unfinished product. He's come a LONG ways from 2013, but still has a ways to go to put it all together. The improved physical conditioning is only part of it.
