6/19 - White Sox vs Rangers
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 07:38 PM) 5 runs for Papa Johns that promo will not be used ever. Haha, for the Rangers half off the next day if they score SEVEN.

Nice day for Flowers' Followers. Started a foundation with with his wife (Flow's Buds), donated $20,000 and will donate $1,000 for each Sox win. It's for a group home for kids...

It's time for a fire sale.
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 07:16 PM) Then you lose your draft picks and farm system gets worse. Plus, they will overpay for whomever they get. Start with the farm. They'll be getting top draft choices for the next few years. Get some Cubans. Get some guys who can run and play defense. Get lucky. Cespedes, Upton, Heyward, Chris Davis, Zobrist and Alex Gordon. Zobrist will be 35 next season. Davis could be like Quentin in 2008 or garbage. Will Lillian be satisfied with him? Probably not. You've got lots of expensive players there...that would require making Avi a DH because his positives are negated defensively but he might not hit enough to hold down DH (which obviously means dumping LaRoche as well). They might be better off seeing how much money the Red Sox would include with Hanley Ramirez and put him back at 3b. Once again, that makes you older and adds more payroll and so-so (at best) defense. No easy solutions.

If it wasn't for bad luck, the Sox would have no luck at all. And how is Adam Rosales 7/16 against Sale with 3 homers? Thats like Brian Anderson vs. Felix Hernandez. White Sox defense an ever-present threat to Sale..more than the Rangers.

Hernan Perez is worse than Sanchez. So there's that. Of course, he's already on his second organization this year.

One of the arguments used is always that if you turn the Swastika around it becomes the symbol for Buddhism, considered the most peaceful religion in the world by many. Let's just put it this way...maybe we should go back to the original flag of the 13 colonies or the Don't Tread on Me version when we have a meeting with the British PM, at the U.N. Or G-7/8. Think they wouldn't be offended? Then imagine being an African-American and seeing that flag flying over the statehouse or all over the infield at a Nascar race. Would you trust those elected officials?

http://cjonline.com/sports/2015-05-18/mike...s-beating-shift The George Brett situation also resulted because everyone knew when he came in that he was only going to be "hands on" for 4-8 weeks and then he was going to fade back from that day-to-day commitment. Royals' hitters started to believe in the results when the wins and stats started to come with all the hard work they were putting in...no matter how good the coaching or teaching, it's very hard to overcome the hestitation players feel when their organization hasn't been a championship contender for thirty years. Sveum has gotten guys like Moustakas, Cain and Hosmer to listen...and they've all improved as a result compared to where they were 2-3 years ago as players. Why we failed to help similar guys like Quentin, Beckham or Viciedo nobody knows for sure. Maybe they were lacking in talent...willingness to change...or changed too much and overthought things and lost confidence. Hard to say. Everyone at one point believed in their talent level, though. Maybe all of the defensive position changes bothered them. Injuries/health got to Carlos. Say what you like about Semien defensively, this season he hit for a stretch in a pitcher-friendly stadium at a much higher level than with the White Sox. Same with Phegley, as well.

Spiegel's Daily Herald Column
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 03:18 PM) I find it difficult to say the Bulls are run differently. John Paxson and Gar Forman seemingly have jobs that are as isolated from performance evaluations as Kenny Williams and Rick Hahn. They were able to replace the coach, but the coach they replaced was someone from outside the organization who they didn't trust in the first place. When personality conflicts arose, the people who won were the internal, organizational people. When that conflict arose, the person brought in from the outside was replaced...with a former player for the team who has a good working relationship with the team. Sounds like they're both run quite similarly to me. Yes, but it's also not possible to imagine the White Sox offering a top 3-5 in the game salary to a hot/inexperienced managerial candidate. When is the last time a White Sox manager was even paid in the Top 10-15 in the majors? We were, on the other hand, willing to pay Hahn the highest assistant GM salary, Cooper the highest pitching coach salary, etc. Seems we kind of have things backwards...creating too many cooks and not enough chefs, with KW and Hahn both in ambiguous situations, and Cooper feeling he has more power and protection than any pitching coach in the game. From listening to his interviews and the mentality in which he addresses the fans, sometimes you have to wonder if they created a monster in the process of being so loyal for all those 27 or 28 years.

http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2015/06/...KhLJ/story.html Who gets the axe first, Ventura or Farrell? Eaton's coming close, but nothing like Sandoval...interestingly, the Boston problem is perceived to be the veterans, and it feels like it could equally apply to Cabrera, Samardzija or Bonifacio right nowin the Sox clubhouse. Everyone's kind of just going through the motions...but the season is just too long to go on like that without some blowups/frustration coming out. You can read it coming from Hahn and Ventura in the last 2-3 days as well.

Until a player is traded or there’s been a change on the staff or in the front office or with an advanced scout or whatever, we are all in this 100 percent together. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 06:05 AM) Plus the #9 pick if Fulmer says NO to Sox below-slot offer. They have absolutely nothing to gain by doing that...all it will do is push the timeframe for competing again back another year.

“That’s just bad,” Ventura said. “I’m tired of talking about it. They know it. We work it all of spring training — you’ve probably seen it a few hundred times that we work on it. I’m getting tired of talking about it because that’s just bad.” “They need to catch it — that’s what they need to do,” Ventura said. Eaton ranks 25th out of 25 qualified center fielders with minus-9 Defensive Runs Saved while Ramirez is 25th of 27 shortstops, with minus-7. “You guys ask the questions when it’s not going well,” Eaton said. “Like I said, it didn’t hurt. It was a tough play, but it was glaring because it’s, like I said, we’re not playing well. But if we would have won the game 5-2 it probably wouldn’t even have been a blip on your radar. Like I said, kind of a tough play but it’s probably somewhere where I need to take charge as a center field and call him off, but it’s a good thing it didn’t hurt us in the end.” http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/robin-...&ocid=yahoo Not sure that's the best attitude to have about fixing mistakes...well, the run DIDN'T score so it's not a big deal...or, if we had won, it's STILL not a big deal. How does that solve the problem? Just the use of PROBABLY is annoying to read...you're either in charge of the outfield or you're not. "I have to take charge...(or)...Everyone knows I'm in charge of the outfield" not "probably somewhere where I need (not have to)..." SIGH.

QUOTE (ron883 @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 11:14 PM) Dump Robertson. Dump LaRoche. Dump Shark (hopefully his value raises by the deadline...) Hopefully Melky can somehow go on a hot streak and not be f***ing garbage still at the deadline. spend big on July 2nd prospects. This team needs a couple years of growth. Hopefully one of Fulmer or Adams can contribute in two years. Anderson will be ready by then. Just firesale and hope for the best in two years. Not sure what else to do. By spending big on July 2nd prospects, you do realize there are 29 other teams in on the same players? Unless you want to go crazy and start giving Yoan Moncada contracts out to Eddy Julio Ramirez and Alvares...which would mean we would pay huge tax penalties and be very limited in our next signing period. For Robertson and LaRoche, you're not going to receive anything even remotely resembling Eaton and Avi/Montas. Even if Anderson and Adams were ready for 2017 and Fulmer in the 2nd half of 2016, you're talking about 2018 until they're legitimately ready to compete again...basically that would mean a rebuilding period of SEVEN years to get back to competitiveness (which we've heard over and over again the fanbase can't or won't put up with, especially when the Cubs are reaping the benefits of patience simultaneously.) You have to make some changes in the coaching staff before you just jettison the entire team and give up on them ever being a productive unit together...you've also got to limit the trades to Samardzija, Ramirez, Putnam/Petricka/Duke, and then, determining how things go over the next 5-6 weeks, you listen on Quintana but morely likely you table that trade until the off-season when you have a whole new coaching staff in place. Let the new manager and Hahn together decide what he wants to do with Quintana, Robertson and LaRoche.

2015 Cubs Catch-All thread
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 10:38 PM) Francona with awesome managing tonight. He used his closer in the 5th inning with bases loaded after a rain delay. Allen retired Montero, and the Indians bullpen held the Cubs scoreless rest of way. Reminiscent of the days when Zumaya was in his prime with the Tigers...before all the injuries destroyed his career.

"I firmly believe that there seems to be a little bit of a lack o
of leadership in that clubhouse..." (You have to watch the video, which is 5-6 minutes long) This is the same exact debate we've been having over the last week (and last couple of years) about Ventura. It encapsulates pretty much all of the different viewpoints, with Kaplan playing "Devil's Advocate" with the rest of the panel at Sports Talk Live. Did Rick Hahn oversell this team being competitive? Should we blame him for being too optimistic? Lots of words bandied about like "focus" and "complacency." Gardenhire's name is proffered as a possible solution in terms of cleaning things up on the field of play. http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-...reak-hits-seven

Multiple Victims in Charleston SC Church Shooting
Johnson said the survivor told her the gunman, addressing her son, said, "You all rape women and you're taking over our country." The gunman added, “I have to do what I have to do," Johnson said, quoting the survivor. The survivor said it wasn't until the end of Bible study when the suspect just started shooting, according to Johnson. The survivor said the suspect loaded his gun about five times. The survivor, who is elderly, who spoke with Johnson and her 5-year-old granddaughter are two of the three people who survived the shooting. According to Johnson, when the gunman saw the elderly woman was alive, he asked her, "Did I shoot you?" When the elderly woman said "No," the gunman said, "Good, because I need someone to survive," and said he was going to shoot himself, the survivor told Johnson. "And you'll be the only survivor." https://gma.yahoo.com/charleston-shooting-g...topstories.html

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/inside_out_2015/ Who are the two idiots out of 135 who gave this movie a low rating? Has anyone ever heard of Ben Sachs from Chicago Reader? http://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/insid...nt?oid=18038469 June 18, 2015 For all its clever touches, the personified emotions plot still feels like a story the school psychologist would've used to teach kids about their feelings. It feels simultaneously infantilized and aimed over kids' heads. Full Review | Original Score: C+ Vincent Mancini from FILM DRUNK

White Sox acquire RHP Tim Crabbe
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 09:20 PM) Isn't that NOesi? Well, the odds are 50/50, same as with Drabeck. Any other team could end up going after him, but it's also possible he accepts the assignment. If I were him, though, I'd probably be looking for another organization/better opportunity.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 09:16 PM) Pirates scored 8 runs in 4 wins coming in not exactly a tear. Yes, but a winning streak nonetheless (and the growing confidence that goes with that)...and, if you look at their overall offensive stats over the last month, every aspect of their team is on an upwards trend.
